Hayao Miyazaki, Japan's first true hipster, obviously hates AI, and there’s a reason for it. Growing up, he was bullied by the tech-minded crowd, including a young Elon Musk. Musk, with his future-focused, tech-obsessed mindset, would often pull childish pranks on Miyazaki — probably mocking his old-school ways and love for hand-drawn animation. Think of it: Musk, always one step ahead with his Silicon Valley swagger, teasing Miyazaki for sticking to traditional methods, while Miyazaki, with his ultra-hipster ethos, was just trying to create art the way he believed it should be made.
These pranks were probably small-time jabs, but they embodied the larger divide between Musk's automation-first approach and Miyazaki's dedication to the handcrafted. It's no wonder that, as an adult, Miyazaki rejects AI so vehemently. After all, he’s the guy who’s always been about keeping it real — and tech bros like Musk just can't get on board with that.
