Stupid XBox 360 Question

I'm in the market for a new progressive scan DVD player and was just wondering if 360 can play movies in 720p or 1080i?

XBox.com makes it sound like movie playback is only in 480p...

Yeah, it's 480p only

Your also better off getting a standalone DVD player anyway since the 360 sucks at DVDs, yet astonisingly does really well with High Definition Transport Stream files (.ts).

That is correct, the 360 can only do 480p for DVDs. Unless money is an issue, I wouldn't use the 360 as a DVD player. I'd get an OPPO DVD Player if I were you.

Try and test whatever you decide to buy with your TV before buying. If you have relatively new TV with a good scaler, you may very well get a better picture by letting your TV do the scaling off a 480P signal.

I got a DVD player with a Faroudja upscaler a while back (same one as the OPPO player), and ended up turning off the upscaling because my TV does a better job.

I got a stupid 360 question also:

How the hell do I change my theme? I know it's going to be brutally obvious, but I cant figure it out :(

Hit the center button on the controller, choose Preferences and the menu is in there.

If you want to make your background a picture from your computer, go to the media blade, then Photos, then choose the pic you want and press X to make it your background.

i have my own stupid 360 quetion;

I had alot of trouble doing this. I eventually copied the pictures onto my PC then burned them over as a data CDR-I could then copy them over to the 360. And btw-be sure to label your pictures,otherwise you'll never be able to view them before choosing one. This is especially annoying if you've uploaded a ton of pictures to your 360.

Really? It's 480p? Then why does my TV stay in 720p mode when I play a movie?

MS seems to have botched a lot of the media features on purpose in order to get people to connect with their (media center) pc... bastards

<---- grrr :lol

Yep. I'll ignore it for now and just pass it off as another symptom of a rushed launch but down the road there had better be a patch to fix things like this. :lol
