"Style" of Sony and MS' conferences?

Anyone notice the radical difference in the style of their actual presentations.

Sony seemed a lot more professional. Like it was a share holder meeting. Also more of an engineer's point of view on their announcements.

While MS was trying to be as "hip and edgy" as they could it seems.

Which did you prefer?

I have to say that I'm glad the MS conference this year largely forgoed the idea of including "celebrities" (outside of that football player). I guess they got that out of their system with the MTV special.

Between the MTV show and now the E3 conference I dunno who the hell MS thinks they are communicating with... sure as fuck isn't me. :\

I would actually feel a lot more charitable towards MS PR if they would just stop insisting on peppering their presentations with retarded buzz-words and phrases.

Where have you been the last few years. MS's hip always seems way too forced and unnatural. Moore is the only one I can listen to without clinching.

"Velocity based racer!"

Innovative.

i haven't seen the sony conference yet, but i found the MS hip and edgy thing pretty retarded. there is a way to do the hip thing and come across as cool, but ms hasn't figured it out yet..

some of the catch-phrases were so cheesy it was actually kind of funny.. i love the way they opened with the guys breakdancing... WTF is that supposed to represent?

MSs conference was boring because we knew it all pretty much. But I highly doubt 90% of the people in the room new WTF was going on during the Sony conf. when the talk of TFLOPS, transistor counts, 7X256 SPEs, programmable super shader, wizzbang talk started

I really liked the relaxed angle that Microsoft took with their conference. I've always thought that the Sony conferences were really uptight.

Today just proved that the gaming business is a natural extension to Sonys electronics business while MS is still uncomfortable with the hardware business being on the software side.

I'm only half way through the MS conference, but I haven't heard/seen a single point of technical information.

While halfway through Sony's, I had seen more powerpoint slides about tetraflops and RX and cpu chip structure than I have since Sony's PS2 conference :)

You can definitely tell that Sony is a company of engineers, while MS is a company of software developers.

I just can't stand any of them. I wanted to kick Allard in the teeth when he sat down on the floor like he was in a dorm room, both Ken and Kaz come off as so damn smarmy, and Reggie is like a retard who got into his older brother's bag of coke. Fuck 'em all.

Kaz Hirai is such a tool though, he's all like "BUT FIRST IS EVERYONE EXCITED FOR E3?" *cheers* "2000 PEOPLE HERE, THATS THE BEST YOU CAN DO?" *CHEER*

Hahaha. man, that cracked me up. PS3 Conference had like a Golden Globe vibe, except with out the rampant alcohol and with tech specs replacing everything else.

I respect Sony's more. They didn't talk to me like I was someone of the "MTV generation"

...but I guess Microsoft's was easier for me to watch. It didn't have the WOW! moments Sony did, but it was consistently decent.

Xbox is the obnoxious douche that talks too loud and attempts to hit on all the girls nonstop at the party.
PS3 is the clean-cut, composed player that sits with his equally chic-looking friends sipping drinks, all the while collecting second looks from girls all night.
Revolution isn't old enough to attend the party.

You didn't enjoy that 5 minute breakdancing video? :lol

I think MS forgot to get the memo that they still weren't adressing the MTV generation at E3.

The crowd on the stage was silly.

What was that - TRL?

And a billion people? Does AOL even have a billion people giving away discs?

The crowd on the stage were bought out by MS and instructed on how to respond to each segment.

Middle aged men, news reporters and analyists who know nothing about videogames. I bet the majority of folks in the mainstream media much prefered microsofts approach at E3. I have no idea what the MTV special was about though, im guessing they just wanted to get the word out that it was coming.

But you ARE in the MTV generation :P
I didn't see Sony's... might download it now. But I couldn't give a toss about tech specs in a presentation like this. I don't care about "1 billion gamers" either. I just want to see games, and frankly, both MS and Sony let me down bigtime. The best thing I've seen so far is X360's dash. That looks swish.

Here's my way of describing the conferences...

Sony's conference is like watching PBS with moments of switching the channel to watch some exciting movie.

MS's conference is like watching some reality show. sure, it may be a little more enjoyable in general, but you get nothing out of it

Microsoft press conference reminded me of

while MSFT's presentation is corny and difficult to stomach... watching Nintendo's Reggie be a retard is just beyond anything ever seen... into a stupid never realized before.

sony's is really good. very smooth and nothing cornball for the most part.

I'm canadian, so if I'm in the "mtv generation" bracket, it's actually 'much generation' :)

(much is the mtv of canada)

I think M$ is trying a little TOO hard to be the "hip" company and in my opinion it comes across very cheesy. I was noticing some of the catch phrases being shown on the screens duing their presentation like "pimp this ride." Oh give me a break! There's an old saying that goes "act like you've been there." To me, M$ is thumping it's chest a little too hard and they still seem like the rookie trying to win a position on the team. They rambled on and on like snake oil salesmen about getting mom and dad back on the couch to play games, blah blah blah. I kept thinking "who gives a shit, just show me the games!!"

Whereas Sony showed a lot more confidence in their presentation and let the games sort of speak for themselves. And hot damn if they didn't speak LOUDLY. It was a sort of, "here is our system, as you can see it's more powerful than the 360, and here's the games to prove it. Nuff said! It wasn't about loud music, laser shows, or pretty girls. It was about specs and games!

I didn't get to see the Sony conference but I was impressed by the ideas in the Microsoft conference, I just didn't like the way it was presented at times.

:lol I love you!

Kaz Hirai is boring, but I don't like the way J. Allard and Reggie try so hard to appear cool and hip. There's something very cynical and condescending about it. When Reggie stands up there says, "I'm about taking names. I'm about kicking ass," is he thinking, "what a bunch of fucking retards these Nintendo fanboys are" in his head? Why is anyone impressed by a corporate executive talking down to them?

Exactly, while Sony's may be boring, they show respect to their audience by speaking to them in the same way they would a share holder's meeting.
