Suggest me a PC RPG but....

Anachronox should have been a straight up adventure game. Beautifully designed futuristic world, awesome characters and story, and probably the best and most hilarious scripts in any video game. But it had shitty and repetative console style rpg gameplay though. Bleh. It would have done better, I think, if they threw in a few more puzzles and just made it a regular old school style adventure game.

Wizardy 8 is a modern game with a decidedly old school throwback. It's not a bad game to boot either! It might be hard to find now though, not sure.

First, I never said I didn't like those games; I already own them. I was looking for something different.
That said, Fallout 2 can do naughty things to my naughty places.
I got to the point where I slept with 3 hookers, shot up some speed and then uzi'd the fuck out of some dudes and said "WHY AM I PLAYING THIS?"
Battle system is cool though. I can see Fallout Tactics maybe being fun to play. It's something that's neat to fuck around with mechanically, but otherwise felt so shallow to me. But what do I know, I like Final Fantasy X!
See Jolly Corner's post for what I should have said.

DE ran fine on my P4 2.5 GHz and Geforce MX400 with 512 MB of ram. if you've got anything made in the last three or four years it should do fine, I wager

Heck, Deus Ex ran good on my P700, 128 Mb ram with 3DFX Voodoo3. Maybe you're referring to Deus Ex 2? :D

If they had, I would've hated Anachronox instead of loving it. I can't stand the arbitrary puzzles and trial-and-error gameplay that lie at the heart of most adventure games. That 'shitty, repetitive' console-style RPG gameplay you seem to hate so much, on the other hand, I actually happen to enjoy. :p

If you're willing to import and play Japanese games, there's Ys 1, 2, 6, and Oath of Felghana. There's also many games in the Legend of Heroes series, and Zwei (a nice looking action RPG) - Falcom publishes a lot of PC games in Japan. http://www.falcom.co.jp

For traditional PC RPGs I will once again suggest Planescape:Torment. I'm not much for the whole Western RPG style but the story seems pretty interesting and the characters unique. The combat system is pretty lame, I hate that stupid MMORPG/RTS combat style where the characters just keep standing there and slashing. Keep in mind I haven't played much, maybe about 3 hours worth. I'm gonna get back to it soon.

Alternatively, you can always download a bunch of fan made RPG Maker games =P

This thread reminds me of how painful the newest 'Pool of Radiance:' was ... here you have a game that could have been the shorthand answer to this thread .. but they blew it.

Someone recommended Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich, but the last time I checked, it's "multiplayer" was limited to a few stages. There isn't a multiplayer quest available like in BG2.

If you can still find it, I'd try septerra core. Not the greatest game, but it has the whole turn based combat and a japanese bent. Got a bit unbalanced near the end w/ summons, but I thought it was a nice try for it's time.

Lets not forget it's like, christ how many years old? Where the fuck would I even find it, considering it seems my roommate took his copy back when he left.
Uh, how about one of the 50 copies on Ebay for less than $10?

As opposed to the console RPGs where you take turns jumping from one side of the screen to the other? :lol

Yeah, I like how there's closeups in console RPGs. Battles certainly have more of a visual element to them - in PC RPGs too often the action is so far zoomed out.
