I started a new game yesterday and just got to the part where I start building my headquarters. (Liberty Castle, bitch!) Man, this game is classic. I forgot how great the music is, not to mention the sound quality. (Gremio's theme = swoon) The battles are fun enough, and the characters rock. It's a big collect-a-thon, but I don't mind one bit. Half the fun is finding all of the characters, which is what I am intending on doing this time around.

Thank you Konami, for the first great RPG on the Playstation, and the beginning of a new franchise.

Q: Are there characters in the game that you can't get after you pass a certain point in the game, or can they all be picked up at any point?

I vote Suikoden.
It's actually my favorite RPG of all time and the one i've played the most!

Definite classic.

My friend got big into Suikoden recently and I was forced to lend him my copy of this. : (

There's a couple characters you can't recruit if you passed a certain point.

Spoiler

The 5th blacksmith requires you visit him with the other 4 blacksmiths in your party. However, if you save once you reach the final dungeon, you are required to include Flik and Viktor in your party, so you can't recruit him.

Leon Silverberg requires you talk to Mathiu to get a letter to recruit him, which you can't do at the end of the game either.
