Suikoden STAR LEAP - Story Trailer

Publisher Konami and developer MYTHRIL released a new set of trailers and information for Suikoden STAR LEAP, its recently announced free-to-play RPG for iOS and Android.

Characters

Yua (voiced by Liyuu) – The hero's younger sister. Highly independent and passionate for cooking, she even goes on culinary training trips on her own. Highly sensitive to taste and smell, she has a promising future as a cuisinier.
Orhan (voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue) – As a childhood buddy of Hou, he was also involved in the founding of the village. Similarly to his daughter, Shirin, he has a wide circle of friends and runs a tavern that people come to gossip in.
Farah (voied by Miho Wataya) – She works at the trading post and is always cheerful and lighthearted. She is often mistaken for a child, but rumor has it that she is even stronger than Hou due to lugging around so much luggage all the time.
Flanagan (voied by Kengo Takanashi) – A powerful village guard sent by Shapur. His energy may make him appear like he lacks caution, but he is an open and honest person that quickly allowed him to fit in with the villagers.
Stendhal (voiced by Inuko Inuyama) – A creature of the Rarby race who speaks our language and makes a living as an adventure-tale spinner. Having set his heart on writing the hero's adventure chronology, he has forcefully moved into the archives room.
Odessa (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) – An aristocrat of the Scarlet Moon Empire whom the hero met during his journey. With her innate kindness and strong sense of justice, she rose up against the Empire and goes on to become the leader of the Liberation Army.
Flik (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura) – A traveling swordsman that Odessa and company encountered while being chased by the Empire. A bit of a show-off, but he has excellent swordsmanship and always makes sure to protect his allies. He later goes on to join the Liberation Army.
Viktor (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi) – Encounters Odessa during his journey, and being highly impressed by her strength of will, decides to fight alongside her. He has an easygoing and daring personality but his foundation in sword fighting is solid, and he later goes on to join the Liberation Army.

I may have to get the retroid pocket to play this thing. I am not into mobile gaming at all. Hopefully it comes to Consoles at some point.

Just when you think Konami is cool again they release a brand new free to play Suikoden on iOS and Android. Suikoden belongs on consoles and PC. Not fucking mobile.

By what metric?

Suikoden is a role-playing game (a text-heavy one at that) made primarily for a Japanese audience. Those gamers play on mobile; it's been that way since this genre largely migrated over from console to handhelds in the PSP and DS era 20 years ago.

The remaster and hopefully new releases on console would come from vitality of the brand in its core sales base, not from us 40-year-olds waxing nostalgic about how great RPGs were in the '90s.

I may be wrong on this one, but most of the franchise was featured on Playstation, then subsequently some of the titles appeared on the Windows platform years after their initial release.

Despite some of the spin-off titles appearing on handheld devices like Gameboy, Nintendo DS and PSP, Star Leap seems to be the first title in the franchise to appear on iOS and Android.

Get the games on as many platforms as possible - that I agree with. However to alienate Console users of existing sequels by releasing them on mobile devices only (for now) was something I always found funny.

I wanted to play Romancing SaGa Re: Universe, but then when I saw that appearing on mobile, I was just simply not interested. And I say that as (what I claim myself to be) a big fan of the SaGa universe. Much like Suikoden.

The funny thing here is that turn based JRPGs are literally the perfect genre for mobile and they can thrive on mobile interfaces.

The problem is that mobile storefronts are a nightmare and when games (specifically the free ones) "expire" they simply disappear without much of a trace at all.

Just when they score some good points with the remasters. They release this free to play mobile crap.

How many time are these publishers going to release these flops that bomb because the Adhd kids on iPhones don't give a fuck about old school Japanese niche rpgs.

The people who do care (like us) aren't going to play this mobile garbage.

Ahh yes, using hard to get currencies and daily log-in bonuses to get stars/upgrade castle/energy/re-skins/fomo timed shit (that that the game constantly reminds you that you could get instantly with mtx to skip the insane grind) is so much more rewarding then earning it through gameplay.

Might actually be good, but there's 0% chance I'll ever find out.

Is this normal for gacha games? I was surprised to see it listed on steam, but it's a good sign if we ever expect it to hit consoles at some point. Konami is doing things a bit differently then what SQ did with SaGa saga gacha game which never hit steam afaik.

It's very, very slowly becoming the norm. Konami is simply following suit and Square Enix is just behind (like usual).

It's a shame because I did want to check out that one Mana game but it's gone now.
