What makes you say that?
Really, I'd like to hear some evidence for this so-called cockamamie theory of yours that somehow this is "placeholder" art slapped together in a total of ten minutes by a college intern in Gamestop's art department.

Nice Logo. Hate the Mario art. Its like they forgot about Super Mario World Mario.

Um... Is this for NEW SUPER MARIO BROS? Because they forgot the word NEW

(GODDAMN BOTH BOXES ARE HIDEOUS)

You meant isn't in there right? Because I was being sarcastic, as clearly they are both indeed placeholder boxarts.

I was thinking the same thing.

I think its just something Gamestop made, as you can see the box is missing a line all the way around it. Like when someone pasted the Mario's they overlapped the outline of the box.

Way too much fucking white, definitely placeholder.

I like the Mario growth art though, that'd be an interesting throwback to the classic series and also possibly intrigue those who never knew of Mario's original growing origins.

Whoa there cowboy. Let's not jump to conclusions. What if this is the first stirrings of a movement within Nintendo to create new, shitty boxart for all its games, using mangled versions of tentative titles and recycled character art on plain white backgrounds?

I think the most obvious thing about the Mario box being a placeholder besides the obvious overusage of white space, the re-used Mario art, and the white DS label on white background, is the copy & paste Super Mario Bros. 3 logo minus the '3'.

It seems like they used the Mario All stars Mario for that box. Some may consider it place holder art, but I wouldn't be surprised if the final boxart looked very similar to that, but a different background color, and maybe something on the left side to balance the box out.

I wouldn't rule this out. :lol

YES. Exactly. Like this.

It has to be exactly like that! The background color has to placed in per pixel, and there has to be white spots as well. I would prefer it if the power glove was a little more to the left, but then again, I guess I shouldn't be too picky.

The fact that Gamestop lists Super Mario Bros as coming out on 3/1/05 got me excited for a second, but then I realized I shouldn't have any faith in Gamestop's dates. But then again, Sonic could make it out on 2/1, given that there was virtually no buzz about Sonic Advance 2 & 3 before they were in stores.

I'd wager that the boxarts are placeholders though. The Sonic one does look sweet, though.

Yeah, not a chance in hell of it coming out then. Nintendo already announced its first quarter releases, and New Super Mario Bros was certainly not on that list.

Hell, Nintendo hasn't even said it'll be out in 2005 yet. Their press site still lists it as TBD.
