As someone that's never played either Super Mario Galaxy (!!), I'm actually quite looking forward to these.

Yeah, so definitely no save file transfer from 3D All-Stars, then. Even if it was just a straight port it probably still wouldn't let you transfer your save, anyway. Ugh! Lame. So now I'm gonna have two different versions of Galaxy 1 only 5 years apart with different saves.

Galaxy 2 should be $20. Galaxy 1 should be a free patch for anyone that bought 3D All-Stars, which should still be on sale and not delisted.
I'm somewhere in the middle, but a bit closer to you than what Nintendo's doing.

I don't understand why they couldn't just re-release 3D All-Stars again and add Galaxy 2 or offer it separately. They do rereleases with added content all the time... call it Mario 3D All-Stars + Mario Galaxy 2, update the box art, charge $70 instead of $60, and then allow both Galaxy games to be bought separately just like they are now. 🤷‍♂️

Galaxy 1 + 2 is a far less desirable collector's item as a physical package than reprinting 3D All-Stars again and adding Galaxy 2. That would've sold so much better, in my mind.

Hard to notice sometimes, most of them are ground textures?
Not gonna complain though, it's something. The price here is the true villain.

Surely, the All-Stars 3D version of Super Mario Galaxy will be updated for Switch 2 as well when the stand alone versions of Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are released? I own that and only wanted to buy Galaxy 2 on card. There's no reason they couldn't do this as neither of these games will be remakes; they'll be essentially emulated versions of the Wii games running with injected code and textures etc.

Then again this is Nintendo so I wouldn't put it past them to not bother updating the original Switch version of Galaxy since it means people would expect Super Mario 64 and Sunshine to also be updated.

The last comparison is just a bump in resolution but sure I believe you.

I forgot to put my magical sprinkles glasses today so that might be why.
I'll take that as a no then.

The comparison is between the 3D All Stars version (in 1080p) released in 2020 and the new version in 4k.

So your comment doesn't make sense at all.

Nice! This has been confirmed?

Yep! From the official store page:

With enhanced resolution (1080p on Nintendo Switch/4K* on Nintendo Switch 2), improved UI, extra Storybook Chapters, a new Assist Mode, and more, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are now out of this world!

*Frame rates capped at 60 fps for 4K output.

So now I'll probably buy SMG2 for $40 since I already own SMG1 on 3D All-Stars, then decide I want to play SMG1 again. Then, I'll realize I can't play the best version unless I spend another $40, which I'll likely do.

Nintendo is smart - evil, but smart.

Since I never bought neither of them before, I'm seriously considering buying the collection. But I understand many of the criticism from people who already bought those.

But to be fair, this isn't the first remaster collection in the industry. How many of us didn't bought full priced remasters before? God of War, Resident Evil, Uncharted?

When 3D all Stars came out I was tempted to buy it, but I knew that eventually Nintendo would release a collection of both Galaxy games. And there it is.

On Switch 2 it's running at 4k/60fps as said by it's official website. You came in, said it's 1080p and then said nothing else.

And when corrected, I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here.

But on topic, I wonder if they just used nVidia's upscaling tech on this or if these are new assets. Still not buying it, $70 for this is ridiculous and if we're lucky very few people will buy it and the price comes down to something reasonable.

I was getting this either way, but nice to know it's an actual improvement over the 3D All Stars Collection version (of Galaxy 1).

Galaxy 2 in 4K is going to be pretty sweet!

I'm just glad there's a way to play Galaxy 2 on modern systems since it is, in my opinion, the greatest 3D platformer in history.

You have a new gameplay idea every 5 minutes, the game is surprisingly challenging from the second half (instead of recent Mario games where the challenge is in the postgame), bosses are great, soundtrack is great, motion controls are actually used for creative gameplay, postgame is fantastic.

I get the complaints about the price though.
