With six years of time since the first there's no excuse for not having a good script this time. Of course the first one had decades of time so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

wtf? The guy's going to take six or seven years to work on a film? Is he directing anything in the meantime?

What is James Cameron doing? He needs to stop playing around in submarines and get to making a sequel to one of the best action movies ever made!

Jesus, at this rate he'll be dead before he ever gets around to making Battle Angel.

Unless that's the plan and he wants to be the first resurrected cyborg to direct a film about cyborgs.

I read the title as Jon Favreau voicing a character in it.

Two wacky blue dudes* out cruising for chicks? Could be cool.

(*I don't remember their names.)

2016? GODDAMNIT AGGGH.

Still, day one. First film had some problems but it was one of the best theatre experiences I can recall, right up with seeing Jurassic Park as a kid.

He's done with The Terminator series.

Reloaded was the best of the three.

People are getting frustrated over this? Damn, high hopes.

so is the rough plan to have a 1.5-2 year gap between avatar 2 and 3?

god i hope i am near an imax when this shit drops

One year gap between each film. It was going to be Dec 2014 for A2 and Dec 2015 for A3.

Now it looks like each of those dates has been pushed by a year or two.

2009Avatar
1997 Titanic

1994 True Lies
1991 Terminator 2: Judgment Day
1989 The Abyss
1986 Aliens
1984 The Terminator

Imagine how great it would be in Titanic hadn't become the biggest film ever, the guy was making a great film every 3 years.
Such a waste of talent.

I wish he'd make Terminator 3.

They could forget the time travel stuff and film the future war. Christian Bale would make a great John Connor. Those glimpses we got in T1 and T2 had a brilliant aesthetic that would work very well in a full-length film.

To be fair, he's making two films at once this time.

I am amazed how little credit Cameron gets for his documentaries. They are always omitted from conversations of the man's work. I really liked them.

You bring up a good point. Avatar has a lot of similarities to bad anime. Trite, cliched characters, unoriginal plot, good action sequences. Fortunately there are lots of anime and films which get the action stuff right while also doing the other things.

It's really that 12 year span of nothing, Avatar isn't a bad film but not worth that amount of down time.

To go from Cameron to the shit Meister of 3 then McG, poor franchise... robot with a human heart... fuck me that was bad.

To be fair, all I remember from Aliens of the Deep is that nerdy chick yelling 'Holy pancakes, Batman!' and wondering if Cameron had a button that could jettison her pod from their craft. Well that and the CG ending. But yes, it was pretty cool. Never got around to seeing Ghosts of the Abyss.

What you call down time would be anything but for a normal person. He went on about 36 deep sea expeditions, shot two IMAX documentaries, was working with Vince Pace on creating an insane new 3D camera system that everybody is now using, was gearing up to go into space with the Russians until the mission was pulled by their space committee and he also happened to be serving on the Mars council at NASA.

He's finally gonna make terminator 3????

He's making T3, Aliens 3 and True Lies 2 back to back to back.

I'm not trying to make some big point, that stuffs nice but I like the films her writes/ directs and the success of Titanic lead to less of them, and some of the failings of the Avatar script look to be from someone who is distanced from normal people.
Things like having the mineral be called Unobtainium, how could no one laugh and tell him it's fucking stupid.

He needs an extra 2 years to find another old, tired story to rehash.

The matrix never had a sequel.
The matrix never had a sequel.
The matrix never had a sequel.

Matrix 2 and 3 were pretty ok movies. It was just the hype that killed them (for me).

First watch was disappointing... after second viewing years later I liked them pretty well...

A mediocre movie with good action scenes is coming out on 2016? I'll make sure to see it in 3D cause that's the only time it will ever be decent.
