Sweet Home: Korean Horror series

This is based off the Webtoon, I've not read the Webtoon. So I don't have any comparison. For a live action series, it was great. For those that enjoyed Train to Busan and Kingdom, which I highly enjoyed and recommend if you have seen or love Zombie apocalypse shows.

Sweet Home differs from those shows in that it's not about Zombies. Monster special effects are a hit/miss. But the characters and acting are good and you feel for them. Deaths don't seem to be for shock value but have weight to them. Story is intriguing and by end you want to explore more of this world. Netflix has already picked up season 2.

I saw this in my recommendations and the trailer looked interesting if a little generic, I'll have to give it a look.

That first episode's flyby cg shot in of all the monsters outside was straight out of an early 2000s RnB music video. Looked like flat cardboard cutouts.

Yea, that’s why I said effects were hit/miss. Hopefully next season gets bigger budget for effects! The show is good enough to out weigh the low special effects! IMO

I was surprised with how much I like this show. I'm only 5 or so episodes in, but it's been a fun watch.

I will however say to avoid the School Nurse Files, another Korean off-horror type show. I watched the entire thing and it started out interesting and became absolute shit by the end.

the music choices are odd at times but it’s a fairly enjoyable watch

My wife and I picked this as our next show to watch when I am to tired to play any games and the kids finally sleep 🤣😭 last one was Alice in borderland and I really enjoyed this. Hope this one is up there in quality as well.

It starts off with an interesting The Mist premise but leaves the horror-suspense too quickly in favour of genre tropes. If they can get better cg or good live action puppets, this is a show that could do well in a Western remake but focussing more on the monsters and the new world the survivors find themselves in.

My husband and me also watch this at the moment, today we will watch the last 2 episodes for some reason I like it very much, good to know there is season 2 coming. The music is the only thing that seriously sucks.

I binge Alice in Borderland(Highly Recommend this too) after Sweet Home, was pretty surprised by this Japanese show. Usually Japanese live action to me are mostly crap. I was initially turned off because the dub was the default play. Turned it back on Japanese and subtitle, made a world of difference. Season 2 got picked up too!

Alice was ok. Sweet Home has some fun Evil Dead/Meet the Feebles style make up.

But man, I really just can't stand some of the characters that predominate in their media. Cringing old men, shrill old ladies, the way crowds swell and surge like waves. Seen it since Kurosawa.

These shows always seem to stop at PG-13 though. Is live action nudity a no go over there or is this just YA genre stuff? Where is the Asian Spartacus?

Korean cinema can get pretty sexual and violent. It's the Korean TV dramas that are usually PG13.

Oldboy is pretty sadistic. One of the best movies period. Not the Spike Lee remake. lol

2nd Edit: Korean and Japan Cinema are pretty different. IMO

Finished season 1 tonight, really really enjoyed it overall.

Lmao at the main dude being basically Sephiroth. Otherwise I liked most of season 1. They pulled a "walking dead" though where they focus on character development for the first 3/4 of the season and then shit out all of the deaths over 1-2 episodes at the end. Kinda disappointed by that. They should have just kept the flow the same and taken it into season 2 if necessary, the last 2 episodes felt extremely rushed and made little sense. I also may not be getting subtle hints that the mc knew that he had to play along with the other monster guy, but it was really out of character that he went along with everything the dude said almost immediately. It's also one of those shows where the whole scope of the show changes from s1 to s2 and now that they're of the apt complex, it's going to be a military drama. Still, the first 3/4 of the season was really solid.

I heard this was created from a webtoon like the God of High School and Tower of God anime were, which I also enjoyed, so maybe I'll give the webtoon a shot to see how it stacks up against the show.

Down to the latest two episodes and loving it. My wife not so much. In return I have to watch now Mr. Queen with her some kind of comedy soap opera from Korea 👑🤣

A shame about the budget, I've seen the trailer yesterday and it looks very cool, definitely going to check it out later.

I preferred Uncanny Counter so much more over Sweet Home. Kinda unfair to compare it but Uncanny Counter has better pacing , an actual moving plot and without the silly CGI

You can spoiler this but can anyone explain that final scene? My wife and I were fecking confused.

Sorry for late reply, had to take time off from posting. If you haven't found answer.

Seo (Fire fighter) goes back and needs to find Cha(main character) for the cure and find out about her fiancé, Cha meets up with Pyeon(Gangster guy) in Humvee but it's actually the shape shifter who's still alive.

This makes sense now, thank you.
