Curious about what people feel will happen with a Switch 2 OLED model.

Whenever it happens, it'll be more expensive than a mid range PC.
These early results are confirming my concerns on a potential price of $550....though I suppose if that's including 512GB... given the cost of Micro SD Express.... it's a bit easier to rationalize...maybe...

I voted 2029 / $550 / 512 GB.

I think Nintendo is going to prioritize releasing a cheaper Switch 2 Lite over an OLED. This is what they did during the OG Switch era, and it'll be an even greater priority now, since the Switch 2 is more expensive and they'll want a unit that parents can feel comfortable buying their kids. I think this will probably arrive around 2027, since the Lite launched two years after the original Switch, though this could be complicated by tariffs and manufacturing costs.

I also think Nintendo might opt for a Switch 2 Pro over a Switch 2 OLED. This seems to have been the plan with the original Switch before the chip shortage made it untenable, so I think they'll probably add extra storage and slightly advanced specs and charge an extra $100 rather than the extra $50 for the Switch OLED, though I don't think $600 is out of the question, especially if prices continue to rise across the board. Whatever the case, I think it'll come relatively late in the gen, just like the OLED.

Is OLED capable of doing 120hz VRR? Maybe we won't get a OLED refresh from Nintendo if it doesn't, since it would be a downgrade. But I'll bet they'll increase storage at some point. Increase battery life. Maybe even throw in that 10$ tech demo as a nice bonus.

I agree that we will likely see a Switch 2 Lite model before an OLED model but I don't think it's going to be nearly as long as a wait as with the first Switch.

People now have a taste and expectation for OLED displays. I expect it to be out 3 years max.

the upcoming legion go 2 is getting:

has an 8.8-inch OLED touchscreen that can reach up to 144Hz and supports VRR.

2029, $500, 256GB, much longer battery life.

Although I wouldn't be all that surprised if the OLED-model equivalent will actually be a "Pro"-model this time around, with some more substantial additions other than the screen.

I'm skeptical Nintendo will do a "pro" model for a bunch of reasons but one reason in particular is that a Switch already has two target specs itself...which means every new spec'd model you add you are adding 2 more dev targets....

I think they just keep it simple: node shrink for better battery life + OLED display + increased storage.

Plot twist: Nvidia and Nintendo are having the beef of their lives, the whole joint venture falls apart and there won't be any more SKU for this console. Next one will be AMD again.

I only see them do this if they want an excuse to kill backward compatibility....which wouldn't be totally out of the question with Nintendo imo.

Yeah, could be.

I personally don't think the "Pro" rumors for the Switch (1) were purely conjecture and/or people confusing it with the OLED model though. Nintendo just decided to go for the OLED instead, maybe for the reason you mention.

But if they have lots of old Switch (1) Pro ideas left they can give it a try this time around. It'd be an easy way to get added value from R&D already spent since the systems are so similar in design I'd imagine.

I don't think it wil happen; or rather, I don't think that the screen upgrade will be the main appeal.

The Switch 1 screen was mediocre, and the cnsole had obvious design flaws such as the kickstand. Hence, the OLED model was a straightforward upgrade.

Everyone who has touched a Switch 2 agrees that the screen is great and the device feels very premium. Hence, if upgrade there is (except for the inevitable fully portable model), I believe that it will have something more. In the best case scenario, it would be a Switch 2 pro electric boogaloo with improved performance, like docked performance when handheld (2/3 Series S) and slightly above Series S when docked (4/3 Series S).

512GB in 2028 most likely as a mid gen refresh. Possibly 2027 if NSW2 ends up struggling and they need a revenue bump.

That's what I would have said a few months ago, but with the state of the world economy it's very difficult to predict. I imagine very few long term contracts are being signed and who knows how that will affect timing of new hardware development like this. We may end up with a COVID-like situation where hardware plans are largely scrapped or delayed for years dependent on supply chain stability.

Can a LTPO OLED support VRR?

My plan is to wait for an OLED, but I'm hoping it hits before Animal Crossing. When Animal Crossing gets released, I know I'm probably going to get one.

2028 seems reasonable.
512gb, which still isn't much but they can advertise it as "Twice as much as the regular one", which sounds nice.
And I could see $600, with the current market where even 5 years old consoles are seeing price increases instead of drops I wouldn't discard the possibility that by 2028 the regular Switch 2 will be $500, and Nintendo can easily charge an extra $100 for an Oled screen and more storage.

They'll probably do a Lite version first and a Pro model later that is OLED.

Reports on the new screen quality and size are that it's pretty impressive so I don't think OLED alone would be a big selling feature.

Considering Nintendo has said it explicitly choose this LCD with HDR and great viewing angles over an OLED, and considering many hands-on reports say the screen is already much closer to OLED quality, market justification for an OLED featured model is much less viable than with Switch 1.

I predict the OLED is the only model I will consider. Not even going to shop prices till the redesign is out and dozens of youtube comparisons are available.
2028, $600, 1TB

Sounds like a prediction O onQ123 would make, then quote himself years later wheb it's announced.
You seem to quote & mention me more than I quote myself
