Sword and Fairy: Together Forever - Announcement Trailer

Nice skirt physics. :lollipop_content:

Also, cool to see Chinese games looking this good, and also Sony helping by pushing the marketing.

Game seems to be out on PC (Steam) already, in case anyone is interested.

So, this is just a renamed version of Sword and Fairy 7 ? Does anybody know if it's a good entry point for the serie ?
Some dude on the Youtube section of that video says that every game is it's own thing, kinda like Final Fantasy.

That's kinda weird because the wikipedia entry for S & Fairy 7 say that the ' story is set years after the events of the entire The Legend of Sword and Fairy series', and 'many plots are follow-ups to previous generations'.
Maybe is something like the connection between FFVII and X, that are supposed to be set in the same universe , in a very distant future ?

The gameplay and visuals remind me of those fake Youtube ads you see for mobile games...

It actually does look quite nice though!

Looks pretty good.
I've never played any of these chinese games, is the gameplay and story actually good or do they just look nice in the trailer?

It could also be something like Zelda where there's a time line and some games are set in the same universe but ultimately they all work as standalone experiences.

"Sword and Fairy"

I wonder why chinese games always have such stupid names. They take 2 fantasy-sounding english words - which they probably don't even understand - and use them together wothout any cause for relation.

I believe the story flows throughout, but it's such a big epic thing that I can't imagine you would have needed to have played a previous game to understand the new game. (And, if I know my Chinese epics, especially those translated internally, I have a feeling it'll be hard enough keeping up with all the names and events that happen in one game, much less multiple.)

(*EDIT- The Youtube text says that Sword and Fairy Together Forever is a "compelling standalone chapter that serves as a jumping-on point for those new to Sword and Fairy while paying tribute to the series' grand legacy. ")

I think what Tinto's YT comment there pointed to was that the games themselves in the Sword and Fairy series are pretty different from one another, if I recall from seeing them over the years. Some are fully turn-based RPGs, some are kind of semi-realtime/semi-turn-based RPGs, the newest one is an action-RPG, etc. Like Final Fantasy and other series, the game has evolved and modified its approach over the years.

Unless you're going to seek out fan-translations, I don't think you have much choice in where to start anyway, as only Sword & Fairy 6 and 7 (the two which are also now on console) are officially available in English.

Looks pretty interesting. Character design is also a bonus, gonna keep my eye on this one.

I played Sword and Fairy 6 on PS4 and while I loved the art style my god the performance was terrible.

I still finished it. Hope this one is much improved.

Sword and Fairy is a vastly superior game name to - say - Infinite Undiscovery

The direct translate of the title is close to something like "Legend of Sword and Chivalry", the code name in the original 1994 game files was "Chinese Paladin".

I think I will take Sword and Fairy, lol.

Its a wuxia based game, its not a stupid name at all.
Maybe u don't even know what wuxia is, no offense...

Yeah, both sword and fairy are pretty common elements of wuxia.

If you don't know wuxia stories everything related to using swords is strongly emphasized down to charachters practicing sword specific cultivation.
Fairy is also a common term in Wuxia for beautiful, accomplished women.

You're wrong there Fuz Fuz , though I can understand why you'd think that.

I don't trust anything "creative" aimed at the masses coming out of China..

.. but oh, look! Shiny.

China, the next Japan in terms of just about everything.

Edit: They're Taiwanese.

So long as it can be stolen, carbon copied or emulated.

I don't know if you're aware, but Japan, whom we can all agree has some of the best stuff in terms of consumer electronics, cars, and video games, also got their start way back in the day copying/reverse engineering American stuff and was similarly looked down at until they got past that stage and began to surpass the west. Took a while but people woke up to it. In art and in life, people grow and learn by copying, until they can stand on their own. This isn't anything new.

Also, have you played the new Sword and Fairy game? It ain't a copy of western or Japanese stuff, no more than anything else in the genre. I urge you to put down your biases and give it a spin on PC. It's a solid action RPG, see for yourself.

Edit: They're Taiwanese.. That changes a lot!

I'm actually somewhat anticipating what these devs can do..
