Syfy has cancelled the dystopian sci-fi series after three seasons, the cabler confirmed on Friday.

“Defiance was a truly groundbreaking series, delivering an immersive, cross-platform experience that transcended the television screen in a way that viewers had never seen before,” reads a statement issued by Syfy. “We are incredibly proud of the work of the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — and especially showrunner Kevin Murphy — who together brought the rich world of Defiance to life over its three-season arc.”

Added Murphy in his own statement, “I got to collaborate with a group of stunning artists operating at the top of their game, and together we built a world. Because of that, there is no room for anything other than joy in my heart.”

After the finale I'm not too surprised. It seemed like they had basically ended the story with Nolan. I was still holding out hope for a renewal, but at least the main story ended.

I remember watching the first few episodes and just forgetting to watch it after those. It even had actors and actresses in it I liked. don't know what happened.

It had a good run and had a finale that pretty much wrapped up the entire show so this was a formality.

First Eureka
Then Warehouse 13
Now Defiance

At least they got to tell their stories and finish on their own terms mostly? Its not like any of the three series (based on the info I've seen in this thread regarding Defiance) were cancelled mid-season and not allowed to end the story.

I'm not suprised. The show had a handful of really good episodes, but overall it was pretty mediocre. We will have to see if other shows like Killjoys and Dark Matter survive, although luckily for those two they have a lot more creative freedom not being grounded in one location. I mean that both literally and metaphorically.

I played the Defiance game for 385 hours on PC. There was something unique and fun about it. I watched the first season of the show and it started slow but by the finale I thought it was really well done for a SyFy series. I never did watch the second or third seasons though. I'll probably catch up one day.

I watched all of season one and it was awful, I gave up on the show.

I started hearing good things being said about season 2 and how they turned things around so I started to watch season 2 and they were right, season 2 was amazing and season 3 was solid.

Overall a good ending to some good scifi show.

It's a shame season one was so bad and put off a lot of viewers.

Sad news.... but.... after phenomenal S2 and S3, S3 got amazing season finale. Everyone who watched it could easily see how it can serve also as a series finale.

Defiance had a great run, it showcased some amazing characters [Datak and Doc are my favourites]. Kudos to the entire production team for making it awesome.

You guys need to stop watching Syfy.

It's a network that only hurts you.

Except Defiance was great, and it finished without a need for continuation.

Launch day on console was pretty impressive when it worked. I'll always remember zoning in to the first area after the tutorial along with dozens if not hundreds of other players. Quite amusing.

Show needed a few more love triangles.

SyFy hasn't made anything good on purpose in a decade. The fact that they're still even afloat is some kind of an accounting miracle.

Man what Syfy got left?

They are expanding aggressively with original content.

Soon they will have premiere of the Expanse, and after that they are making book adaptations of Clarke's Childhood's End [miniseries, Charles Dance, Dec 14th-16th], Pohl's Gateway and even the Simmons' Hyperion [both 2016].

And they have Killjoys and Dark Matter, both good shows who got S2 pickups.

There's the Expanse, based on the book series which I'm pretty excited for. Then Killjoys and Dark Matter. Personally I like Dark Matter much more, but many gaffers enjoyed Killjoys.

I need to catch up on Dark Matter, loved the opening 2 parter, Killjoys was meh to me.
