Online play with 8 players, sweet

Defensor, they say you can use the old lock on controls if you want

IGN: Can you talk about the targeting system, and what players can expect from camera control, etc?

Darren Yager, Producer, Designer: Targeting is obviously a large part of the game, so there are a few styles of targeting to help the player out; target lock, over-the-shoulder, and free aim. Target lock functions just like it did in the previous Syphon Filter gamesÂ… once you lock onto an enemy, movement, stance and weapon will dictate your likelihood to hit the target. Your best bet is to always take a knee before firing. Over-the-shoulder aiming pulls the camera in to give the player a closer view of the target and allows players of target lock to precision aim via the use of a reticle. This comes in might handy when you want to take an enemy's knee out or go for the one-hit kill head shot. Finally, free aim is a dual stick style controller for the more advanced player that allows precision aiming at all times.

The third-person camera has slightly changed from the previous game by pulling the camera in to resemble more of a SOCOM-style camera. This change has made player movement easier to control and really shows off the detail of our character models.

Talk about a turn around; that looks quite impressive. I'm guessing the old team (Eidetic or something) has been given the boot, yes?

Sweet, I was a huge SF fan until that PS2 garbage. Hopefully this will revive the series, although I think a PS3 outing done like SF1 and 2 would be more awesome.

With SCE Worldwide Studios set up now, I'm really hoping these guys are getting their auto-lock logic from Zipper and SOCOM: FTB. It's damn near flawless, and I can only imagine how damn sweet it'd be in a new SF.

I have fond memories of the first game. Think I played two, but definitely not a three. How many have there been?

Wow, this is PSP? I wish it was something other than fucking Siphon Filter, though. :( I hope The Getaway PSP looks this impressive.

Fourth one is Omega Factor, which you can find in any Toys 'R' Us en masse for $9.99 and will probably be able to get for $4.99 or less after Christmas.

This game looks great. 333 Mhz?

Also I think it's great that Sony is putting infrastructure in this game. They should have online in every Sony 1st party game just to set a standard for PSP games.

If this game has all the crazy weapon unlocks of Omega Strain, then I am fooking there!

FINALLY, some other major publications (besides GI) expose some decent info on this game. I remember when I posted the screens from the Game Informer Feature (which looked amazing back then), and the shit spreaded like fucking wild fire. Although it still took months for other Pro-Sites to take notice it seemed.

Anyway, the game is looking damn incredible. Easily one of the most impressive handheld games I've ever seen, can't wait for its release :D !!

This game looks like 500 other games already out, yet some of you are 'impressed', how come? :)

- A proper single-player follow-up to a relatively solid PSX series.
- Extremely good graphics for a PSP game.
- Multiplayer.
- Profits.

Good idea, at least with regard to multiplayer games. Obviously, single-player games don't need it, unless they offer some sort of downloadable content like Wipeout Pure (which would be a good idea for this game, too).

The next step for Sony is to ensure that the headset microphone is supported in as many games as possible.

How does such a crappy series of games keep getting sequels?

Crappy? Syphon Filter 1+2 are fantastic games. I know this isn't the norm, but I liked them better than MGS because the gameplay was more compelling (not saying this is true objectively, just my personal feel). They were challenging and had great level design. I remember later in the games you needed almost exclusive head shots to kill the armor equipped enemies. Fun, challenging stuff

I tried Syphon Filter 2 and it was painful. Bad controls, stuttery, just bad all around.

holy crap!
that looks nice

IGN: Multiplayer is a big part of any PSP release. What's the deal with Syphon Filter's multiplayer?

John Garvin, Creative Director: Other than what was mentioned earlier, community is a big deal for us. Infrastructure support with the inclusion of rankings, unlockable content, friends list and cells (clans) is very important to us when trying to build an online community.
:)

looks brilliant.

PSP better get support because I bought one today and the system is amazing.

Have you people forgotten the steaming pile of crap that Syphon Filter 4 was this gen?

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/914829.asp?q=syphon filter

What makes this game so exciting?

Impressive graphics + enjoyable memories of some of the games + a little hope.

It's plastered all over this thread, try reading.

Me I never really got into Syphon Filter enough to get very far, or bother with the sequels beyond playing a bit of 2, but you never know.

This gen's version of Syphon Filter left me out in the cold. Maybe I didn't give it a chance but when I did play it, it sucked. I remember buying SF 1 and 2 for PSX when they came out, which were fun and good.

And why isn't 66% average considered awful? Isn't that an F? Or D? Considering the grade scale.

I'll be extremely impressed if this PSP title comes out great.
