Additional products planned for fiscal 2005 from Rockstar include a new console title based on a proven brand from Rockstar's internal studios, titles based on two of Rockstar's premier brands for Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation®Portable platform (PSP(TM)) and the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Japan.

Perhaps they could finally bring us a new Lemmings game for the PSP, now that they own the rights to that series.

So GTA and Max Payne?

I think it'd be a good move to have a new GTA game out during fall 2005.
PSP will have a decent installed base by then (at least 1 million in both Usa and Europe) and Rockstar will have the holyday season covered while preparing the transition for next gen home consoles.

I'm all for some Lemmings love, but there's a series that really makes more sense on DS.

Agreed. Lemmings and / or worms to DS please!

GTA would be a rediculously good app to have over Nintendo... it almost seems inevitable too. While there was GTA advance, it was Vicarious Visions who ported I believe. Rockstar North, as with most Britsoft companies, along with their publisher Take Two - clearly favor Sony. It seems only natural that preference will cross over onto PSP. Ah well.

Rockstar president also talked about PSP titles coming in gameinformer. He also said that while DS is interesting, he doesn't see apps from rockstar.

Seriously though, this game would shut the PSP off in like 1 hour max.

Will be interesting to see how GTA PSP is handled. For the persistent world the game practically needs to stream and I thought developers were not streaming on the PSP due to battery drainage. That would mean tons of loading points which would suck.

they could probably do a psp version of gta without all the streaming. of course the city would be compromised, and they'd probably need hard loading screens. i could imagine smaller discrete sections of city, perhaps little islands, connected by long tunnels.

Ridge Racers isn't a massive streaming world... I think that was the point
I'm commenting on his lowball 1 hr estimate, much like the lowball 2hr speculation for Ridge Racers before anyone got their hands on a PSP. The disc is constantly spinning when movies are playing and people are getting 4-5 hrs of battery life out of that as well.

I'm sure we all expect a game with constant streaming to drain battery faster than one that doesn't stream extensively, but maybe the battery life will be just a tad better than an hour...seeing as RR battery life is better than a lot of pundits predicted.

Rockstar North isn't engaging in PSP R&D. The inevitable GTA PSP will most likely be outsourced.

Although rumoured by EGM, I don't think GTA is coming in fiscal 2005; Take Two would be foolish to rush it. It clearly must be something else.

GTA is already confirmed. I dont see why they would release it so late. Max Payne and Midnight Club are my bets.

Rockstar has an internal team dedicated to portables, used to be Mobius. It's still not the interior team, but it could still be an internal production (Rockstar North is, by now, only a part of the effort that goes into creating a GTA).

Rockstar Leeds is developing it.;)

Take Two adds Mobius to the Rockstar family

UK handheld developer becomes Rockstar Leeds following buyout

British developer Mobius has been bought out by US publisher Take Two, with the studio - previously responsible for the GBA version of Max Payne - being renamed to Rockstar Leeds but retaining its focus on handheld platforms.

The studio will be working not only on Game Boy Advance titles going forward, but also on games for Sony's forthcoming PlayStation Portable - which Take Two has previously expressed strong interest in developing for.

"We were very impressed with the Mobius development team from the time they began work on the Game Boy Advance version of Max Payne," according to Rockstar president Sam Houser. "They bring a uniquely progressive vision to the titles they develop and we believe this studio is ahead of the industry on next generation handheld development."

Buying out a handheld developer such as Mobius is a quick way for Take Two to get an edge in the rapidly expanding handheld marketplace, which will this year see the introduction of new platforms from both Nintendo and Sony.

Although development for Sony's PSP is more analogous to PlayStation 2 development than to Game Boy Advance development, game designers with experience of handheld platforms are still considered to have a major advantage as they are used to creating titles which work on a small screen and within the other constraints of a portable game.

GTA will be done, and it will be made to fit into the regular time frame of 4-6 hours IMO. Maybe 3 hours at worst. Just think about it. The worst case is if the disc was spinning nonstop. Don't the UMD movies already do that, and the drive still gets 4-5 hours with constant streaming and video decompression. Gameplay on top of that shouldn't exactly sink the ship, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. The game engine will have to be modified though. But if they could get GTA3 quality, or REALLY close to it, I think we'll have the first official PSP killer app. That is, if it beats GT4 to market. PEACE.
