Tattoo Everything--New Black footage and interview!

Jesus Christ that looks insane, I totally can't wait for this one. Going to go preorder it this weekend for the exclusive gun (lame promo, but I'll bite).

Edit: Just noticed that they modeled the shower area from the movie The Rock into the game. GOTY bitches. :D

That's probably the best preview vid of the game yet. And +1 for having Alex just talk without any interviewer going on and on about things no one cares about.

For sure, really interesting stuff. The footage looked incredible, even better than the stuff they've shown so far. That's probably because this level looked heavily inspired by The Rock (one of my fav action movies). Can't believe it comes out next month, damn.

Criterion has a lot of talented developers.

Which is why I'm very sad that their first next-gen outing is a prettied up port, bleh.

If anything Black (and Burnout) proves that all that hype that PS2 would really blow us away as more developers got used to the hardware wasn't BS. I know we've got impressive stuff like SOTC and MGS3, but Black is in another stratosphere. Its incredible that they can get something like this running on PS2 at 60fps.

On a gameplay technical aspect, this is quite possibly the best FPS ever. But what I just saw, i'm doubting in a way, I honestly want to say that theres NO way the PS2 can push out visuals like that and have destructible environments at the same time.

I guess I'll see in February...

You still doubt the power of the PS2? :)

Just very mindblowing. I was surprised with MGS3 and SotC but this is on another level. This is one case were I hope i'm proven wrong.

I like how the PS2 is being tapped out. Each time you think someone has pushed it as far as it can posisbly go someone else comes along and does something better.

Watch the video again, when the main character goes over a gun it showes up as "Hold [] to swap MP5 for the Uzi", right at 5:43.

Believe it.

About the whole EA thing. I've gotten to the point were I don't look at EA as a whole entity. They've got branches coming from the trunk (one being Criteron) that are extremley talented and letting these type of games fail by not buying into it BECAUSE of EA would not be a good thing for games in general.

I guess they've actually gotten that big. Even within their umbrella, you've got varying dev darpents...some being skilled, some being the opposite and everything in between.

Ahhh, I didn't notice that. :D

I actually expect them to tone down the game just a bit for XBox since PS2 can handle particle effects better. We saw the difference with Burnout 3/Revenge (PS2 version was better technically) as far as the sparks go, and even the overall look of the game was a bit sharper.

I dont know about that 'blur the background durring reload' idea. Most people trained to use guns can reload blindfolded so there is no reason to take your focus off your enemy.

OMG this game looks like incredible fun (and graphically it's awesome aswell). I'm only sad that there is no multiplayer and that PC gaming has killed any patience I have for console FPS controls. But I need to play this game...

Wow, that video just kicked my ass. Props to Alex Ward that guy has jumped to my top list of cool dudes in game development.

Its not like I have anything against the PS2 itself, I just don't like the DualShock 2 for FPS's. Ah well, I'll manage I guess.

I was kind of joking ... taking a pot-shot at MS's busted BC for 360.

I agree, DualShock 2 is not the best for FPS. Granted, you can use a converter for X-box controllers, but that is an added expense if you don't already own it.

Looks like an X360 game!!!
Or a PS3 game for that matter.

I like how they have two reloading animations for this; one for when you're under fire, and one when you aren't. I remember when someone around here was talking about having particular animations like that. Looks like he got what he wanted. :)

I hope this isn't too repetitive, I really want to buy this.

Wow ... after watching that footage, I'm not sure what to say.

Obviously the camera is giving it some artificial IQ improvements, but still - this does not look 'this gen'. This seriously looks like X-box 1.5 - a truly groundbreaking engine!

I'm getting close to the point where I'm considering picking this up on day one. Lack of online multi is such a blow to the nuts.

Certainly does the current 360 lineup no favors. Comparable graphics on a 7 year-old machine?

Err, I wouldn't say that the poly/textures are more impressive than any of the real X360 games (not the ports). But the overall look of Black (when you factor in all the particle effects, destruction, etc) is what makes it look like a next-gen game, except its this gen. I for one didn't expect something like this would be possible on PS2 when I bought it back in 2000.

Yeah, the crappy BC makes black baby jesus cry :(

I haven't played many FPSs on the DS2 (Timesplitters 2 might have been the only one), so I don't know, maybe I'll get used to it. I swore that I could never get used to playing Burnout on the DS2 (after playing it extensively with a Type-S), but after a few hours I got used to it and it wasn't a big deal. The sticks may be loose on the DS2, but I might be able to adjust after a while.

I actually think it's brilliant, and one of the best innovations I've seen for the genre in years. Sure we're always playing super awesome military guys, but I thought the whole idea behind an FPS was that you were the character in the truest sense.

Blurring looks to add a much better sense of urgency and panic than a long ass reload ever would. I normally hate the FPS genre, but I think I'll pick this up day one.

Reason for reload bluring is lack of focus of the person when reloading, yet in the game they allow player to move and run in any direction in full speed, even sideways. Its stupid.

I wish they'd fill us in on how this getting an extra gun for pre-ordering thing is going to work.

As far as I know, the only store chain in Canada you can get pre-order perks at is EB, and I'd rather not get it there, but I don't want to miss out on the gun.

Yet some people still to THIS DAY say Sony lied about what the PS2 can do at the 1999 TGS event.

*shakes head*
