Well...Recently it seems tattoos have been fashionable again...The tribal signs are everywhere but well...

Since I was a child that I loved those chinese dragons tattoos and I have been thinking in getting one be drawn on my shoulder...
Keep in mind I don't know anything about tattoos and I was wondering what pros/cons do they have them.
Besides I wonder if they are very expensive or not...

Any tips will be appreciated. It's only an idea but I am sure a lot of people here knows more than me about it.

Yah they can be, especially certian artists or going to a tattoo shop.

If you want ink like that done, you cannot just go into a local tat shop and and expect them to do it the way you want.

Your putting something perminant on your body and you want it to be the best representation of you. It sounds silly and until you find the right one i would look around for someone you trust to do the job you want on your body. You might find it in that hole in the wall seat, cool.

Something like that usually cost around a grand, if you dont know anyone. Alot of people will do it for the costs of ink and use you as sort of a word of mouth for more business. Tats follow a barter line of cost of materials and tell people where you got it done.

I got mine done in Japan, by a very very old man who as a 17 year old watched hiroshima have the bomb dropped on it He was in a Japaneese fighter plane and it was strange because he spoke the queens english, Very cool. My brother was in the Navy at the time, stationed in Japan, the tattoo itself cost me just over $6,000 dollars from wrist to shoulder blade. 5 9 hour sessions, I was there a month.

Its a style that wasnt really done in america, No lines just color and fading for the desired effect, It doesnt photograph well for some reason.

You have to remember that you are paying for someones time to do the work, Just like a mechanic to fix your car or a plumber to bang your wife. It costs money.

And he gave me a deal because my brother bought him alot of work. I basically took up a week of this guys time. Which costs hm about 6k dollars. And honestly every cent was worth it. I went back twice since and hes done small stuff for free along with minor touchups.

I would have to see the backside and the amount of color and detail, The more I look at it the more it costs.

Easily $1500-$2000 if the guy was charged labor. You would be suprised tho, tattoo artists are generally very cool people and they might cut you deals if didnt just walk off the street.

Im very essentric about it, It doesnt photograph well for some reason. Let me look and see what I have, I dont like showing pictures of it because of that. Its something I would rather show in person. So much detail in it, You can look at it for hours and still not catch all the little things in it.

The whole story behind Koopa's tattoo is so impressing (and cool)...It makes you to want to see the tattoo itself.

Well Koopa, you could also say that not sticking it on-line also helps to retain some of the intimacy that should be involved in tattoo culture. Not the pop fad shit of the suburban tribal shithead flash masses.

I've done tattoo design for friends. It's something of an honor to have someone dedicate a piece of your art to their body, and they also appreciate it since it's one of a kind, and not the flash shit you walk in and buy.

Coincidentally, some of the work I've done has been butchered by incompetent tit tattoo artists. Not my problem since it's not permanently on my skin; but fuck man - having some inkling of skill should be a prerequisite for a job as a tatooist. Ugh! Now I'm all eager to cut off some hands. >:|

Shop around so the artist doesn't scar you with fugly art.

Tatts are stupid for the simple fact that if your body shape changes IE you start working out or eating everyday @ McDicks, an image that size is fucked. Either way it is going to stretch and look retarded because you can not unstretch the skin.

If you go on a diet or have surgery or a period where you can not work out the image is going to look stupid again.

So the only reason to get a tatoo is if you are ripped and you intend to stay that way.

If you are a fat-ass or a stick keep your shirt on and save yourself the cash and the embaressment.

No problem. The story just sounds very cool.

all three of my tats are on places that don't really grow or shrink. One on upper arm and two on my lower leg....as long as I don't get a tat on my gut or ass i'm in good shape.

Yah bandit, I cannot stand people who think showing off a wall tat from empire makes them a represenitive to the cause.

Yah definatly look around. Any artist that has pride will show you his work. When i sat with that old man to get his vibe, he told me to come back in 3 hours with 2 bottles of vodka. When we came back there was about 15 people there to personally show me what he has done in the realm of what I wanted. Some were Yakuza too. You could tell by the sleave ending high on the forearm. Kinda scary but makes your life more interesting.

Ive been thinking long and hard about what i want for my next one. My brothers and I want to get something together. Were actually thinking of getting our family crest on the palm of our hand. My aunt has it, so we might get it from her at thanksgiving.

It's who we are and it will never change. Makes a handshake more meaningfull when you put your family on it. The only obstical is my brother and his job would prevent him from working until it healed so we are waiting on the right time.

Its something you gotta be prepared to show people though, especially girls at Jamba Juice. They wanna touch it, especially if they have nails they always run them over my nipple and pinch it to get it hard then there nipples get hard and my wife gets horny.

She gets off by other girls admiration. I feel like a toy at times. =(

Also, make sure you know exactly what the artist is writing on you if you ask for some kind of Asian symbol or something. There are tons of people out there with insults tatooed on them because they don't read Chinese.
