The complete story for Tekken 5 has also been released on the Japanese Tekken-Official site. According to the official story, Jin Kazama was captured by the Tekken Force. Kazuya Mishima finds him and unleashes Jin’s devil powers, then loses in battle to him. While Kazuya is unconscious, Heihachi Mishima battles Jin and begins to lose badly. This is when Jin hears the voice of his mother Jun Kazama, and flies out of the Honmaru Mishima Zaibatsu compound. Soon after, Heihachi hears helicopters in the distance, then launching noises, as Jack-4 units attack Honmaru. Kazuya betrays Heihachi and tosses him to the Jack-4 units, then escapes to safety. In a flash, Honmaru was destroyed and Raven is seen reporting to his superiors that Heihachi is dead. However, unbeknownst to all, Heihachi rises from the ashes of Honmaru. As the news of Heihachi’s death spreads across the world, many believe that this is the end of the Mishima Zaibatsu. However, a mysterious person takes over as the head of the Zaibatsu and returns things to their normal state. One month later the King of the Iron First 5 tournament is announced.

The IC cards for character customization will also track your win/loss percentage. There's more details in the articles, but here's a pic:

In addition, all 114 currently released Tekken 5 screens are in the screens section, and there's new video footage from the Osaka Location Test in the downloads area. GameDaily still uses the Gigex download system, so I've included directions if you can't get it to work. And YES... the download system is changing very soon to something everyone can use.

The new footage is in the downloads section here:

And here are IE directions if your download doesn't start (apologies in advance, the system will be changed):

-Select ‘Tools’ from the menu bar
-Select ‘Internet options’
-Click on the ‘Security’ tab
-Make sure ‘Internet’ is selected from the list of Web content zones
-Click ‘Custom Level’
-Under ‘ActiveX controls and plug-ins’ make sure the ‘Download signed ActiveX controls’ is set to ‘Prompt’
-Click ‘Ok’

i wonder how the cg-intro for this will be!.. must be freaking awesome!

The arcade intro sequence was already shown in the E3 trailer. If you haven't seen it, you can stream it at http://www.tekken-official.jp/tekken5/media/

Edit: Also, for those of you interested, we will have a playable version of Tekken 5 at the Evolution 2004 tournament at the end of this month. It's scheduled from July 29 - August 1st at the Cal Poly University in Pomona, CA. Visit http://www.evo2k.com for general info, games, fees, rules, etc for the tournament. Hope to see you there.

Man, it sucks that the card system probably won't be used in the states.

Did you read the article linked up there?

The new card system that has been added will serve a few different purposes. Each card will hold one custom character, so players will need to purchase additional cards if they wish to customize more than one character. However, taking a step away from the customization featured in Virtua Fighter 4, players will be able to choose what they wish to purchase for their characters, instead of simply getting a random item. It is currently unknown how points will be earned to purchase items, but it will more than likely have something to do with your frequency of play.

In addition, each card will hold information on your wins and losses. When you load in your card at the character select screen, you will see your total number of wins and losses, as well as your win percentage. This feature will be carried over to the US as well, where IC cards are expected to run about one dollar each, depending on your local arcade. In Japan, the cards will also enable players to fight against ghosts of the top players in the country, as well as offer a national ranking system.

Too Hectic... Already covered it. :D

From what I've heard the US will be getting four different options for Tekken 5. Cabinet with IC cadr system (first available), followed by cabinet without card system. Then a month or two later, solo PCB with and without card system. I would think any and all Namco owned arcades would get the full cabinet with card system.

Supposedly there's no random select because of the card features. At least that's the reasoning Namco has given.

As for the time release characters, Eddy, Kuma, Heihachi, Bruce, Anna, and a Sumo Wrestler (possibly Ganryu) are confirmed. Devil and Ogre are heavily rumored. There will be a total of 30-31 characters.

Since when are any of those(besides Kuma) "confirmed"? As far as I know, they're just highly likely rumors from sources. Namco hasn't said anything about it.

Why would the card feature make it so there cant be random?

When using the card system each card only holds one character. So you can't put in your card, then select a different character. Thus, no random select. At least that's the logic.

While we originally assumed Kuma would be a playable character due to his inclusion at the end of the E3 trailer, the developers have confirmed that he will be a time released character.

Continuing with more characters, it has now been confirmed that 30 or 31 characters will round out the Tekken 5 roster once all of the time released characters have been revealed. We already know of 21 characters, and now we can share with you another five. Bruce Irvin and Anna Williams will be returning to the Tekken lineup, in addition to a character using the fighting style of Sumo Wrestling. This may or may not be Ganryu from previous Tekken titles. In addition, Eddy Gordo will make a return appearance. We do not currently know if he will once again be a palette swap for Christie Monteiro or if he'll have his own set of attacks and a separate square on the character select screen.

Rounding out the character discussion is the confirmation that Heihachi Mishima is not dead. You heard correctly, despite his apparent death in the E3 trailer, Namco will be bringing back the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu for yet another tournament. It is unknown whether or not he'll be the Heihachi we all know and love, or if he'll be changed due to the explosion or possibly the Devil Gene mentioned in the Tekken 4 storyline.
