Thinking more about mod kills and I'll say that if we are keeping with the "season" format of a few larger games that start at the same time and breaks between games, then I can see why mod killing would do more harm than good since we'll only have a few seasons a year and having a game get ruined by dropouts has a larger impact on our community. However I'm not sure if gaf really needs strict formatting and rules. We tend to be a bit more laid back on things not related to console wars.

Which is why randomized drafting and stuff I feel is unnecessary when we can just let the people who want to mod start a thread and let people sign up for the game(s) they want to play. If there are enough people without a game to play, someone can start a new game. If too many people start games, it will sort itself out eventually. Having mods set the rules and tone of their own games lets people choose the mafia experience they want. There will be bumps / bad games along the way, but that's life.

This is not to say we shouldn't have a central thread to talk in or broader guidelines, and I understand why these first couple of games were formatted this way. I just prefer more of a freeform community when it comes to this stuff. I feel like we'll get to a point soon when there will be enough players to always have games running, and the more variety the better.

The trouble is, I'm worried about how we'd actually co-ordinate this. I too see a "looser" GAF mafia future when we have around 200 players, but given the mods will not allow us a permanent recruitment thread in OT, at the point we just let people open recruitment for their games whenever they want, it'll almost certainly have to be in Community and also almost certainly using a singular thread to prevent thread-shitting. That will kill our expansion again. I'll more than admit I'm not really convinced the season thing is necessarily the best way to maximize games and game variety, but I do think that, perhaps until we can meet a new arrangement, it's the best way to ensure growth in the player base.

Perhaps the mods will let us keepa recruitment thread on ot and a General discussion thread in community?

Edit or we just leave it in community and do a yearly thread in ot that goes over the played games as a recruitment tool.

Out of curiosity how many people found gaf mafia in community rather than ot? I know I did.

I...honestly don't remember how I found the thread.

....I never look in community except when I want to find a specific thread I already know about. Like a game OT thread.

Everyone should probably be using subscriptions for these games anyway. That's probably another thing to add to the new OP, Crab.

I saw the recruitment for the game crab ran back when it first went up but didn't join as I was to busy with my final year project for uni. Subscribed to the game thread to keep an eye on when it ended so that I could get my name down for the next game.

I don't often find threads in community to be honest, only ever go there through my subscriptions. I feel it's the same for a lot of people?

How long have we even been in Community? I've had the last thread subscribed since I applied.

No idea, I only noticed when Palmer said something earlier. That's why I was curious how many people who purely observed the games found us via community since it seemed like we had a few spectators pop up towards the end.

I'm still up for a new mafia game, has the sign up thread been created yet?

I'm for the season format, against mod kills, and against jesters (unless roles are known at the start of the game)

Wrestling Mafia ?! holy hell that is a genious idea !
Godfather would be for example Vince McMahon
"IF YA SMEEEEEELLLL, what the Rock ! is cooking!"
Season 8 ideas

Vince McMahon has the override ability
Triple H can bury people so they can't use their role
Brock Lesnar serial killer

I wanted to add that i personally really enjoy the themed games. Of course, the flavor should not detract from the gameplay but I absolutely loved the little 'stories' that MattyG and Karkador wove into the game when people were eliminated or won.

Just an idea for games way down the line - we could try and time certain themes with game releases. For example we could have a Zero Escape themed game right before ZE3 releases or something. Just another way of having fun and stirring up some hype (not that Neogaf really needs that...).

I do like the idea of that, though of course that's up to the discretion of the individual mods.

I've been thinking of a Zero Escape themed game and thought of doing it closer to the time it releases as I'll be less busy then. In the end it comes down to what the individual moderators want to do.

Of course, of course, it's totally up to the moderators. Just throwing out some ideas for them!

Look for the red names and send some PMs out. What will your new name be?

I might just shorten it to Quantum, since that's what everyone seems to be calling me anyway.

What ever happened with the people that were creating a pgrogram to scan the threads for votes?

That's my bad. I suggested doing it right before I had to work like crazy finishing up school projects and studying for my finals, so it went to the back of my mind.

Currently, I'm just doing nothing while waiting for a job interview on Monday morning, so I'll definitely look further into it now!

Thread is up. Feel free to post. Note that I need everyone's preferred gender pronoun if they want to sign up, even if you've already displayed interest.

We're lazy. Several players have just become acronyms. TWE, LoC, RNH.
