That's the final design? Hideous.

It looks fine. Hopefully they'll tweak the "angry grill" but w/e.

The main problem is that it's an suv/crossover. Is there really a market for a luxury car like this? With the roadster there is a market for a luxury sports car. The model S is their luxury sedan. But the Model X? I don't see it selling but they must've decided that there is a market, otherwise they wouldn't make it.

I'm waiting for the Tesla Bluestar which is supposed to be their 20-30k regular car.

In the past I would have more readily agreed but these days with even the vaguest concepts of technology being rabidly patented and litigated over I'm fairly skeptical.

How long is a reasonable amount of time to expect a return on that $465 million investment in the form of Tesla producing a vehicle in the $25k-$40k range that competes with the Nissan Leaf? I'm somewhat disappointed that the first feature being hyped about the Tesla X is that it's quicker to 60 than a 911.

The Model S starts at $50k and optioned out it's $100k. And the $50k orders are all in the back of the line until the $100k orders are filled. The Tested.com guys described this as being a bit "shady"... I think they have a point. I wouldn't care if there weren't such a large amount of taxpayer money involved, FWIW.

Why are you talking about taxpayer money? The $465 million given to Tesla was a loan. It was not a bailout of any kind. The government gives loans to all types of companies in multiple industries.

Tesla Motors will begin delivering its new all-electric SUV to customers at the end of the month with a price tag in the six figures for customized models.

CEO Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla's Fremont, California, factory will hand over the Model X starting on September 29th.

The company also invited selected customers to pre-order customized versions of the Model X at a beginning sticker price of $132,000.

A model upgraded with "ludicrous" speed — which can travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds instead of the Signature model's 3.8 — will run another $10,000.

A less expensive version of the Model X will become available at a later date; reports expect the price tag to start at about $75,000, although Tesla believes that qualifying tax credits and fuel savings should drop the car's actual cost to owners by thousands.

Musk also indicated that the forthcoming Tesla Model 3 — a smaller, cheaper alternative to the Model S — will require the use of the company's new battery factory in Nevada. Production is expected to begin in two years and pre-orders for the $35,000 car will begin in March 2016.
