That expandable Hori DS stylus?

Mejilan

Running off of Custom Firmware
Is apparently an official licensed NoA product now. Much like the GBPlayer "SNES-style" Hori pads for the GameCube, Nintendo has allowed Hori to release it's expandable stylus here in the US. $4.99 nets you TWO of them. Not bad.

When collapsed, they look much like the standard Nintendo stylus, and fits in the DS stylus slot. Of course, they can be expanded to almost double length during gameplay for more comfortable usage.

This news/product release totally slipped under my radar, and I know I'm not alone in having considered importing a few of these a couple of months ago...

Nintendo's own stylii tend to come out of the DS slot too easily, IMHO. Indeed, the Hori stylus is a better, tighter fit, in that sense.

Get a comfort stylus instead. It's a twisty thing that wraps around your finger. I love it. It lets you play the games that want you to touch the screen with your finger, without using your finger. Like Nanostray, Band Bros, Spider-Man, Princess Peach, and a whole slew of upcoming games. In other words, it magically turns shitty game design into okay game design. It should come with the system, as far as I'm concerned. I can even have it on my thumb, still use the buttons just fine, and also use it for the screen.

Treating the stylus like a pen, I'm holding the thing near the base anyway, so adding length to the same shape would be superfluous. Some of you hold the far end most/all of the time, though?

I apparently won one of those things about two months ago, and I've yet to receive it from them. I have a feeling they just tell that to everyone who puts their email into the newsletter box. :( If you are affiliated with them tell them BuG from GAF is pissed.

So I ordered a Comfortstylus as well, only $5.99, why not?

Got an email from the president of the company (supposedly), telling me that she had arranged to send me two types. One is the standard PDA Comfortstylus, and the 2nd one was made with the DS in mind. I'm to keep both.

The president of the company emailed me to tell me of my winnings. If your order comes through and your inevitable impressions are positive I might glaze over the lies spewed forth about my free stylus and order one as well. Until then the cotton bud idea sounds like a good one.

Ha, ha...president of the company e-mailed me, too when I ordered, just to ask where I heard about it. I think she's the president, CEO, head of all divisions and the janitor too. You should e-mail her back and say you didn't get it.

Hey, Mejilan, what's the difference between the PDA and DS one?

Ordered. The president also emailed me right after and asked where I had heard about their stylus. She said I will be getting the DS one, although I don't think they'll send me both.

What lies?

Hey, Mejilan, what's the difference between the PDA and DS one?

From her e-mail, the difference between the two lies in the color and size of the "tip" of the stylus. One's thicker, the other thinner. I think. I'll let ya know when they arrive. I know the black one (presumably thinner), is the PDA one, and that the red, thicker one is the NDS stylus.

And yes, I get the feeling she's the president of her own "out of the garage" business. But hey, why not? That's how Apple started. *kisses iPod*

That I would be receiving a free one when, in fact, I received nothing but disappointment and an excuse to rant for no significant reason on an internet forum.

I entered my info for the prize draw, and also received an email stating that I had won.

The cool thing is that I actually got it! The only downside is that my package said that 2 stylus' were included, but I only had 1 in the package. I got the red tipped one (for the DS) which is why I wanted the thing, so I'm pretty happy.

This thing actually works really well! I'm impressed. I think that it is perfect for games like VJ DT and Castlevania were you mostly play without the stylus but need it once in awhile.

Very nice freebie to have. ^_^

Yep, it works really well.

The only "glitch" in the design is that every once in a while I feel the need to flex my finger, and cannot without taking it off! :D

You're awesome for your choice of avatar, but you're a dick for rubbing it in that you received your freebie. I'm entering again in the hopes of getting one, otherwise I'll just buy the damn thing. :(

I finally got a shape for the thing that lets me put it on my index finger and still bend my finger, press the right shoulder button, use it on the screen (obviously), and even store it in the stylus slot without falling out and without keeping the system from sitting flat or from opening. It's perfect!
So now I think I'd better get another before Metroid Hunters comes out and I have to re-shape it to my thumb...

Looks like I'll have to continue experimenting! :D

I was just looking at their website and...

An officially liscenced 3rd party memory card? What?

Its $3 cheaper than the Nintendo one, and since Hori is cheap, uses Japanese style box (no plastic of doom)

Why Companies still use those plastic pieces of shit to hold their products is beyond me. Those are the hardest damn things to open

I picked up those Hori styli a few weeks back... they work pretty well. I find it easier to grip with the extension.

That's the point! ;p

And I hit those murderously sharp and difficult to open plastic packagings! WTF are THEY all about?

Because they make a whole lot of noise when you open them (read: it makes them difficult to steal.)
