I'm really not one that's into the high-profile, glamour-laden award shows (i.e. The Oscars, The Emmys, etc.), but what the hell...I might as well watch the red carpet crap since nothing else is on.

BTW, I really like Joan Rivers (now). I really never took much interest into her (other than knowing the fact that she's one of those "types" associated with everything Hollywood) until the ad-campaign blitzkrieg featuring her and her daughter. I've been watching the TV Guide channel for their red carpet coverage, and this woman is actually funny. She makes fun of the fact that she's been Nipped and Tucked more than anybody else. She said the show was like "reading her diary." :lol

I won't even be watching the awards ceremony. :D During the show, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, and two episodes of Family Guy will be on.

Anyways, I'll be rooting for 24, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Arrested Development, "Kill Bill Vol. 2," and "Collateral," nominated in their respective categories.

EDIT:

Might as well include the list of winners:

In terms of Joan Rivers I never did understand all the hate directed at her. She has one of the most self-deprecating personalities and doesn't take herself seriously at all. Just a funny lady (though she's definately old school funny).

I'll be watching Arrested Development and Carnivale instead. I might try and download a copy of the awards show later and check out any good speeches that happen.

I only get three channels, so I'm pretty well just watching the Globes tonight. Hoping to see Lost pick up it's one award, to give it some momentum into the Emmys later this year.

Edit: Get well soon, Dick Clark. You've subjected me to Al Roker, your illness must die.

In other news...Ewan McGregor seems drunk ALREADY. Hilarity.

lol@Natalie Portman winning for The Closer. The only person that came off good in that trainwreck was Clive Owen and even then, I don't know if his performance was award-worthy.

You're crazy... Owen and Portman were amazing in Closer.

Clint Eastwood won for Best Director! Why do I pciture Martin Scorcese screaming "I didn't win? I'm supposed to be 2005's John Wayne!!" *

Can't wait to see Million Dollar Baby. Haven't been this excited about an Eastwood movie in years.

*John Wayne won Best Actor Oscar in 1969 for True Grit. Most people think of it as more of a lifetime achievement award rather than solely for his performance in True Grit. The same for Scorcese and The Aviator.

Except that Scorcese won a Golden Globe for Gangs of New York...that logic will only work for the Oscars.

God... Desperate Housewives over AD.

It's not a bad show, but AD is seriously one of the most original, and funniest shows... ever.

Shit like this reminds me why the GG's are like the red-headed step child of awards shows.

It's not surprising: It's the Golden Globes, as you say. It has no idea of quality, only of hype.

Nice to read Mariska Hargitay wins:)
Seriously, this was the only award I've agreed with so far. What a load of shit, as usual.

I'd say I agree with a few more than that...like...uhhh...Score was okay, everyone loves Howard Shore!

Michael Giacchino's score for The Incredibles was the best by far. Undoubtedly the score that was the most fun, sexy, adventurous and refreshing of the year.

If we're going to expand our disappointment past the nomination process, I agree completely. I loved that score. But, of the nominees, can't complain.

I can't say definitively since I didn't see the likes of Million Dollar Baby, Spanglish or Finding Neverland, but I dunno, I find Howard Shore very overrated. Ever since LOTR he's suddenly the new composing god in everyone's mind. Same goes for most of John Williams and Hans Zimmer's stuff, at least in recent times. It's all so... standard now.

Sideways had a really nice and appropriate score as well; Rolfe Kent's done great work for Alexander Payne.

Updated with list of winners.

And again, 24 was robbed! :)

24 already won last year, so I think Nip / Tuck really deserved it.
Now, up nexts are the Actors Guild Awards where 24 could win two awards!

Why was Desperate Housewives listed as a comedy/musical? It's clearly a mystery drama.

ABC wanted to build buzz for both of its new dramas, Lost as well, and didn't want them to compete with one another come awards season.

The listing as a comedy is why Terri Hatcher won Best Actress, because her performance is the most slapstick and comedic.

WTF was up with that dress Natalie Portman was wearing?
Yeah, I thought that was interested. Here she is, nominated for her first real adult role, and she comes looking like a child. Weird.

I thought Halle Berry's dress was the most stupid looking (when I saw her present). Maybe it was just me...

And here's Portman:
