It's funny, all the brothers in here have whiter taste in music than I do.

As far as music goes, I'm truly the blackest man on Gaf.

Can I get a fuckin' tag already?

I don't know why I can't stop listening to that shit :lol

Someone really should do an in-depth study on why Blacks seem to have such an attraction to Asian culture.

Well like I said in NegroGAF #1...

If the majority of us dudes up in here got called "white" in some fashion, this is Oreo CookieGAF.

Chocolate MilkGAF. :D

Etc etc. I remember calling last girlfriend who I referred to earlier as the prettiest zebra I've ever seen. :lol she didn't like that so I called her "polish chocolate" which she thought was funny, but also didn't like.

I guess these can explain why I am single..

....

._.

I need to look out for 100% black chicks! Never had one! Wish me luck!

You guys tip your Barbers? I've never heard of this. What's the reason? Are they like waiters?
Tip for the service.

If you frequent the same place a lot, its just a good idea to tip well.

Years ago, i wore a top half ponytail, with the sides faded.

I used get my hair cut like this, but since I it my 20's I stopped getting done like that.
Now I just get it cut low...almost fuzzy and no fade because my hair grows back too damn fast.

.

Think of it this way. You go to this barber a lot. He does a great job every time, and this is why you frequent him. Wouldn't you want to show him thanks with a tip?

So they don't make waiter pay, but you tip them anyway?

No, because I'm already paying him for the haircut? It's not like he's doing me a favor by doing his job.

Also do you tip anyone else who does a great job?

Does anyone here listen to african music? I've discovered some Toumani Diabaté and Geoffrey Oryema, but I need more, since what I've heard is fantastic. Anyone here got some recommendations?

I can't speak for every black guy, but I know I have a special relationship with my barber. Anyone who provides a service for me frequently, whether it be a landscaper, barber, or bartender, I generally overpay to show my appreciation for them doing a great job and making the experience a good one for me. I'll see them a lot more than I'd see one particular waiter and thats got a lot to do with it.

- Where you're from Born in Queens,NY.
- Where you live Fl
- Your cultural heritage, lineage and genealogy My dad is jamaican, so hes mostly black, my mom is cuban. I know one of my great grandparents on the jamaican side came from somewhere in west africa. My great grandmother on the jamaican side was jewish from poland. On my cuban side my moms famiky is from western cuba. We can trace our roots back to spain. I plan to visit Cuba for the first time this upcoming summer. So much family that i have never met :D.
- Your Age 23
- Favorite musical genre Hip-Hop, cuban jazz, merengue, salsa mostly music i can dance
- Your profession/major/career interest currently a student. Graduating with my bachelors in accounting next spring.:D
- Your religious affiliation Catholic, just confused at this moment.
- Hobbies gaming, sports, computers, cars.

I used to have a blowout but with the receding hairline, its a baldy right now :-( .

My haircut costs $10-13 and I always drop the full 20.

Not only do you show your appreciation for a job well done but it can have some benefits as well. When I see my regular barber I rarely have to wait since he almost always jumps me in front of the line. And when I see new barbers, they remember my face.

That said, I'm at a cross-roads right now. My regular barber has bounced around to different shops and usually I've followed him. But his most recent move has him 30-40 minutes away. I like getting my haircuts quick, not have it take 90-120 minutes of my day.

So I started going to a barber shop that's just 3 minutes away. It used to be black owned but now it's run by a bunch of "reggae" tattooed white guys. I was a little nervous at first, but these guys can cut! These guys are equal or better than my original barber.

So I don't know what to do. The new guys are better and are much more conveniently located. But I've been with my original barber for 12-13 years, all the way back to high school. Granted we don't really talk much, so I don't really have a personal friendship with him. But I still feel some loyalty to him. It's just instead of getting superior service, now I feel I'm just doing him a favor by going out of my way to see him.

What would you guys do?

Habib koite, the very best, muso ko, and you can't go wrong with any Fela or Femi kuti

It's just a way to show appreciation for something my long time barber does a great job at doing. He's given me discounts, he's almost even done it for free on certain occasions and he's also done my hair after shop hours when/if I forget to get my haircut on a day. Yes, he's "doing his job" but it's just another means of congratulating him of a job well done.

Do I tip everyone who does a good job?

I'd tip an A+ waiter.

I'd also tip you over. 4 knuckles across the head, B. :D :lol

I tip my barber all the time if I have the money on me. I do it as a way of thanking him for doing a good job. I also only let one Guy in my barber shop cut my hair.

Long story short... troll thread got made, spawned several other troll threads, mods merge all the threads including NegroGAF and HispaniGAF making them for the most part unreadable. People get pissed. Mod discussion takes place. Evilore lays down verdict of no more megathreads. GayGAF gets hit in collateral. Paul Mooney wins a bet.

Most barbers have to the pay for the space/seat they use right? Good reason to tip.

My taste is pretty far and wide(I'm listening to The Mars Volta right now), I've never been called an uncle tom, or said "I act white", but to my credit I don't sound like Carlton either. I do remember once though that my home girls(both pinay) said. "you know Imm0rt4l, you're not like a stereotypical black guy and you're not a black guy who acts white like "so and so", you're almost kinda Asian", to which another homegirl (also filipino) co-signed her even though they couldn't explain why this was. I didn't take it as an insult to my blackness, cuz I'm black as sin. I guess I was more flattered because these (normally insular)group of Asian girls who are my good friends see beyond my race and saw characteristics in me that they liked. Or perhaps my best friends being filipino and mexican has rubbed traits of them both on me? That's really all I could take away from that because I don't know what acting Asian would mean since their are so many types. Their isn't a 'single story' that is told specifically for Asians like their are for blacks or for Africans.

Speaking of single stories this is a good watch/listen from a Nigerian woman called the dangers of single stories. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg&feature=player_embedded

NC gaf is deep...

And I'm dark-skinned clear as day, but I've been through the whole 'you act white' thing for most of my life. It didn't stop until I started getting into sports and learned to tell people to eat a dick whenever they started up that crap with me. I still get it from time to time, but it was never as blatant and direct as it was when I was younger. I've changed a bunch since then... I probably come across a lot differently now than I when I first got to NC.

The three people you MUST tip are the people who can spit in your food, the people who can make your drinks trash, and the people who can fuck your head up without you even knowing.

- Do you feel ostracized as a black nerd/dork? Charles Barkley once said that "there's nothing sadder than a black nerd". What do you think about those words, and while we're on the issue, what is gaf's opinion on the whole "act white" thing? Barkley says all type of dumb shit. But naw I dont feel ostracized. I wear my nerdiness with pride. Matter fact I went out this Friday, met this big booty Haitian broad, and while I was gettin my mack on she said "OMG I FUCKIN LOVE NERDS!" I've been hearing women say that my whole life so I never felt awkward or weird about it.

IRT acting white..........uhh........I don't really care. People conform to their surroundings. I knew white cats who grew up in brooklyn with me that sounded just like the rest of us. And I had black friends who grew up in the suburbs that sound like the typical suburbanite.

If I had a choice though I'd act Japanese. Japanese people are awesome. Samurais, ninjas, DBZ, Kojima, CapGod, giant fucking robots, and they made Mario.
