could barely recognize him

some people age fucked up

Looked the same to me with a bit of balding and darker hair.

Interesting interview to read after watching all those Power Ranger summary videos.

Wow, fuck that production crew. Now that I'm aware of the discrimination that went on behind the scenes, I don't think I'll ever see that show the same way again.

it's the Power Rangers. who's surprised? (did not grow up in the Power Rangers generation...hated its tasteless Voltron/GoBots/Transformers live-action bitting)

seriously though, it's too bad he had that kind of experience.

What kind of a television production crew uses homophobic language?

Knew he was mostly a loner and somewhat disliked on the set, but didn't know he was gay too. Amazing he stuck with the show so long compared to the original cast.

I'm glad he found himself. It's absolutely abhorrent that this culture can still exist in the Western world.

Homosexuality is not a fashion statement and it is not just a form of sex.

Yeah, it's a fashionable sex form!

Mmm. I was thinking about showing this to my boyfriend cause he loves the original Power Rangers, but I don't wanna ruin it for him with what happened behind the scenes and with Yost.

Doesn't Super Sentai predate all those shows?

Anyway yeah, PR fans know how fucked up production is on those shows.

Honestly, I always thought he looked a ton older than the other actors even back then.

He was by far the oldest on the show. He was like 25 when the show started while everyone else was around the 16-19 year range.

Me and all my friends at the time thought so too. But, then we all thought a lot of stuff was gay. Oddly, two of those friends actually turned out to be gay and neither knew all throughout our school years.

I'm not sure what the moral of this story is.

The source material of Power Rangers predates Voltron, Gobots, and Transformers by nearly a decade. If anything, those shows were taking inspiration from Super Sentai.

Just because you saw something first doesn't mean it came first. :D

The 80s were a dark age. AIDS got pinned on the gays and everyone was happy to have a scape goat. Things don't change that fast. Power Rangers went on the air in 93 so I think its entirely plausible most of the film crews were still holding onto dated views of gays. Keep em off my set unless their in the makeup room.

Ohhhhh, the Blue Ranger as in the blue-coloured Power Ranger. When I read the thread title I thought it was some random tv character I'd never heard of.

Pray the Gay away? Really?

Also, whatever happened to the Kimberly/Pink Ranger actress? I remember 6 yr. old me having the hots for her.

Ken Mehlman is the Blue Ranger??

But seriously, that's a sad story. I feel for the guy...not fair to work so hard to get where you are and made to feel like you don't belong.

She had a bit of success after PR. Was on a show called Felicity that was mildly popular, had a music career that never really took off, and is now on a Canadian cop show called Flashpoint (edited: WTF is The Troop then? :lol ) or something like that.

She got a role on Felicity back in the day then she disappeared.
