The buzzword for the 360 launch is framerate, will it really be a factor?

I've been gaming for years and since I've had my own money I've been buying my systems at launch. I remember getting the PS2 at launch with SSX. I played some other launch games that didn't interest me at a buddies house. From what I rememeber, the framerates were all smooth and didn't hamper the experience. For the XBOX launch I bought Halo, NFL Fever, and played PGR2 at a friends house. Same story, no framerate issues. I had the PS1 but I don't really remember what I was playing then so maybe you all can chime in.

At all of the shows from E3 to X05 framerate seems to be a concerns from all of the previews and hands-on impressions. Only a couple of games haven't been mentioned, but for the most part people seem to be concerned with whether or not these framerates will be smooth for November 22nd. Is the 360 a special case where developers just had to wait too long to get their kits and we may actually see launch titles that are choppy? I've always associated system launches with tight deadlines, so are all of these concerns about framerates just pessimistic considering all launches are last minute affairs?

At least Ridge Racer cares :(
