The Cat Came Back

As some of you may or may not know, on May 9th one of my four cats went missing after someone left a door or window (not sure which) open. Today however, after all the searching and so forth, my cat Rufus was returned home.

Here's the lame part though. When he first went missing my family and I did a number of searches of the area, put up posters with a $100 then $200 reward, put ads in the newspapers, asked a neihbor that has kids that do paper routes to include fliers on the cat in their routes. That aside, we also contacted the animal hospital, animal shelter and the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Now there in was the problem. You see my cat was picked up by the SPCA and put in the pound and, although he had a tatoo inside his ear for identification, they sold him ONE DAY AFTER HE ARRIVED WITHOUT CONTACTING US. Fortunately however, the new "owners" discovered this fact and tracked us down. This morning he was brought home, but it was really sad. You see these people had a four-year-old girl, and he was her first pet. But they still did the right thing (respect +5), but the poor kid was heartbroken. Sufficed to say, we're all considering pwning the SPCA for that s****y stunt.

Anyway, now that he's back things are a bit weird around the house. Since he was outside so long, he's kind of wild. A lot bigger and stronger and all that jazz. He's actually attacked the three other cats (one of which included his brother). But aside from the time it'll take for him to get readjusted and non-crazy, I'm thrilled he's home. Didn't think I'd see him again.

Phew. For a moment there I thought I'd click to find Mike Myers was making a sequel to his Dr Seuess disasterfest.

That's nice to hear. I've lost cats before and I just hope they were in a nice home like yours was.

You just don't know if that's the case though unless something like what happened to you happens. And if it does, the cat's back with you anyway.

There is this mean stray kitten/cat (right about that age) with fleas that won't leave us the hell alone. It seems to have made a home out of our deck, the neighbor feeds it so it won't go away. The neighbor drove it like a mile away and left it there, and it made its way back. It bit him when he did that too. No one will take it too because it is mean and has fleas, and the animal shelter is full.

We'll just have to drive it further away, I guess.

How the hell do you get rid of strays?

You don't. Poor thing sounds like it's got no where else to go. What's the harm in leaving out a little food for it?

That was my biggest concern while the little guy was gone, that he was in a terrible place. But this experience has certainly changed my opinion of the SPCA and animal shelters. Can't trust those people it seems.

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Little Bennie had a cat that they wouldn't let him keep
So he put her up for sale at a price he thought was cheap
He took her to a neighbor to ask him for advice
He said, "Leave the kitty here. She can help me with the mice."

But the cat came back, she wouldn't stay away
She was sitting on the porch the very next day
The cat came back, she didn't want to roam
The very next day it was Home, Sweet Home.

Then Bennie met a man who was driving way out West
He would take the cat along as a special honored guest
The steering wheel was wobbly, he drove into a tree
The car was just a total wreck as anyone could see

But the cat came back, she wouldn't stay away
She was sitting on the porch the very next day
The cat came back, she didn't want to roam
The very next day it was Home, Sweet Home.

So Bennie bought a gun from the Human Cannonball
He put the cat inside with Tri-Nitro Toluol
When he pulled the trigger, the cannon made a roar
The neighbors all surrendered 'cause they thought it was a war

But the cat came back, she wouldn't stay away
She was sitting on the porch the very next day
The cat came back, she didn't want to roam
The very next day it was Home, Sweet Home.

Then Bennie gave the cat to a man who had a bomb
When he took the cat away, she was acting cool and calm
And then the bomb exploded, it made an awful sound
They searched and searched for ages but the man was never found

But the cat came back, she wouldn't stay away
She was sitting on the porch the very next day
The cat came back, she didn't want to roam
The very next day it was Home, Sweet Home.

How the hell do you get rid of strays?

Don't you have any rivers by your house?

Congrats man, I love cats so this was a great story. I feel bad for the other family but at least the cat is back in its old home.

I thought I was going to see this old gem of a song... real dark though:

The Cat Came Back

Written By: Harry S. Miller (with later folk additions)

Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own
He had a yellow cat which wouldn't leave its home;
He tried and he tried to give the cat away,
He gave it to a man goin' far, far away.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The man around the corner swore he'd kill the cat on sight,
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,
Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note,
Told him for to take it up the river in a boat;
They tied a rope around its neck, it must have weighed a pound
Now they drag the river for a little boy that's drowned.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going up in a balloon,
He told him for to take it to the man in the moon;
The balloon came down about ninety miles away,
Where he is now, well I dare not say.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going way out West,
Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best;
First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail,
Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat it had some company one night out in the yard,
Someone threw a boot-jack, and they threw it mighty hard;
It caught the cat behind the ear, she thought it rather slight,
When along came a brick-bat and knocked the cat out of sight

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

Away across the ocean they did send the cat at last,
Vessel only out a day and making water fast;
People all began to pray, the boat began to toss,
A great big gust of wind came by and every soul was lost.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

On a telegraph wire, sparrows sitting in a bunch,
The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch;
Climbing softly up the pole, and when she reached the top,
Put her foot upon the electric wire, which tied her in a knot.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat was a possessor of a family of its own,
With seven little kittens till there came a cyclone;
Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around,
The air was full of kittens, and not a one was ever found.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The atom bomb fell just the other day,
The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;
Russia went, England went, and then the U.S.A.
The human race was finished without a chance to pray.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
