The closest thing we'll probably get to a new Cibo Matto album

Next week, apparently: Yuka Honda's solo album Eucademix.

link

1. Alone Together (humming Song)
2. Parallel
3. When The Monkey Kills
4. Limoncello
5. Some Things Should Be Left Unsaid
6. Seed of Seed of Peach
7. Twirling Batons in My Head
8. How Many Times Can We Burn This Bridge?
9. Why Are You Lying To Your Therapist?
10. Phantomime
11. Anemic Lover

Personnel: Yuka Honda; Marc Ribot, Miho Hatori, Petra Haden, Phantom , Timo Ellis, Trevor Dunn, Japa Keenon, Thomas Bartlett, Brandt "Brand T" Abner

Pretty close to the lineup of Stereotype A, minus Sean Lennon.
If it's a cross between Stereotype A and Honda's solo album Memories Are My Only Witness, that'll rock.

Hell yeah! Been a Cibo Matto fan for ages (ever since their Squirt TV appearance back in 95 or 96)

I was bummed when it looked like they were broken up for good, but this is a nice surprise :)

I'd really like Sean Lennon to do another solo project, too. Into The Sun is on my all time favorites list. I never checked out Smokey and Miho either. To do list and all.

What kind of music is this? I didn't even feel like checking the link because I'm an idiot.

I love both Cibo Matto LPs, the EP, and Smokey and Miho. Yuka and Yoshimi is boring crap.

Oh man, this is on Tzadik, John Zorn's label. I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's going to be noisy, improvisational stuff.

Trevor Dunn of Tipsy? What's Tipsy? All I know is his work in Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, and Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant.

As I understand it, the band broke up after Stereotype A (2000 or so), but on friendly terms. There might never have been an official announcement.

Tipsy is a kind of updated exotica record put out by Asphodel in the late 90s. Dunn was a contributor, not really a band member, but the music is more in line with Cibo Matto's feel.

I wouldn't mind if this record wound up being a little more experiemtnal than the Cibo Matto output.

Have you listened to Yuka Honda's Memories are My Only Witness? It's on the same label as this new album, and though it's entirely instrumental, it has a good mix between the grooves that are typical of many Cibo Matto songs, and areas where it goes off the rails in an experimental way. (It never gets completely inaccessible, though.)

Honestly, I lost track of what they were up to. I'll check Memories out based on your recommendation.

Back in 2000 or 2001, at the Ipecac New Year's Eve party, Yuka Honda was apparently performing in a band called Pom Pom. I never really heard any details on that.

Ipecac Recording"'s web site's news page on 3/28/02 confirmed they will release a full length album from Yuka Honda in 2002. Yuka formed a band called "Pom Pon". Pom Pon played a live performance on New Year's Eve at the "Ipecac Recording" Party in San Francisco at Slim's.

Pom Pon. I really wonder what that was about.

A Yuka Honda album recorded with only the Donkey Konga controller?

I believe that he and Miho used to be involved, so maybe that didn't end well?

It was actually him and Yuka Honda (but I always thought Miho Hatori was the cute one too)
and yeah, that was my guess too.

Can someone gimmie a bit of a list of the solo projects Miho and Yuka performed on? (post breakup) as it looks like I may have missed a few.

Thanks.
