That's incredible!

You know, I wanna get lasik or whatever it is, but don't they like.. cut open your eye? Scares the CRAP out of me. Heh.

...I have to wear glasses. What of me? I don't want laser eye surgery - I want eyes made of unborn children!

Only treats people with damaged corneas, but it's a start.

The UK has a program running that cures Age Related Macular Degeneration, the most comon form of blindness. It's a 1 hour outpatient process where they inject stem cells. It's supposed to roll out widely in the next couple of years.

They create a flap on the surface of the eye using a blade (microkeratome) or laser (intralase), then shoot another laser at your eye burning away corneal tissue. Simple really.

They had an episode of How Do They Do It? on the science channel a while ago where they showed you lasik surgery, and after seeing it I am more glad than ever that I have perfect vision. They didn't even knock the dude out while they took a razor to his eyeball.

I had laser eye surgery (vision is great now), and yes you are awake the whole time staring into a laser. It is odd as your vision gets better as it progresses. It is nerve racking though, especially with doctor constantly telling you to be still and not to move.

Holding back stem cell research was a crime against humanity.

I agree. The amount of unnecessary suffering and death it has probably caused is staggering when you think about it.

It's been 9 years since Bush removed most US Federal funding and cowardly governments like mine in Canada followed suit.

Think how much closer we would be to cures and treatments for so many illnesses if we could have those 9 years back.

BuBubububub the unborn babies!
"All three patients were blind in one eye. The researchers extracted stem cells from their working eyes, cultured them in contact lenses for 10 days, and gave them to the patients. Within 10 to 14 days of use, the stem cells began recolonizing and repairing the cornea."
Not quite.

The 80's already did that, man.
Wow, you're back. Cool.

I can not believe this isn't allowed in the US. Honestly. Just image, they will probably be able to restore eye sight for people with both eyes that are blind.
