The dark side of MMORPG playing...

I'm not sure if this violates the TOS so if it does shit this b!tch down! :)

Why is it that some scummy people decide to buy mmorpg currency and power leveling? I'm not just talking about with actual money, but trading items to have a higher level character to drag you along in levels. Isn't part of the fun of the game to earn stuff? I personally enjoy the satisfaction of grinding and farming to get in game goodies. Any thoughts on why some folks do this?

People often think that part of the fun of the game is being better than others, so they want it as quickly as possible

Well... MMO developers are largely asshats and don't want things that you can achieve simply by having some skills as a player. So instead, they put in stuff that takes a shitload of money to buy (epic mounts in wow, houses in other MMOs, etc.) and make it so it takes forever to earn that money to buy those items.

And in WoW especially, if you don't have stuff like an epic mount, you're at a disadvantage over others who do in pvp, especially world pvp.

So I don't really blame people who buy gold, I blame the developers for putting in retarded time sinks that drive people who don't have the time to play a game as a full time job to spend their real money just to keep up with the hardcore players. And hell, I'm saying this and in general I actually like the MMO genre. Also it can be fun to farm and grind at first, but after 8 months it's definitely no fun.

for buying currencies it's just more money than time.

People who buy power leveling do it to get to the higher level game faster or because they don't want to play all the low level content again on their nth characters. some people don't enjoy grinding and farming but can enjoy other parts of the gameplay.

Both give players a chance to compete against the stay at home moms/dads and kids in summer.
