With Okkervil River? That's a fantastic one-two punch. I might even say that Okkervil River should be the main attraction. A shame that there aren't any Canadian dates.

I bought my tickets for the Seattle show two or three weeks ago, should be interesting seeing how this is the largest venue (aside from the Gorge, and that doesn't count as it was a festival) I've seen them headline.

No Canadian shows makes me cry.

Hop the bus to Minneapolis! I'm making the trek (probably Fargo->Winnipeg, Winnipeg->Minneapolis, actually), it's going to be worth it! The Fine Line is super kick ass.

Anybody know how to order tickets for the Vancouver show at Richards on Richards? It doesn't show up on ticketmaster.ca. :(

Exactly. I don't know many Americans familiar with the Manic Street Preachers. I'm doubting many people could make the connection between his avatar and his name.

Though the band's gotten pretty underwhelming since their first singer disappeared. That Lifeblood album isn't too great, either...

It's pretty tough being a Manics fan in the states. I got into the Manics during high school right before This Is Mu Truth... came out in England. They played Seattle once, but it was a 21+ show and I was 19 at the time.

I haven't heard Lifeblood yet, I'm hoping it gets a domestic release. Seeing how the Holy Bible 10th Anniversary set is coming out here, you'd think it would.

Actually they have the same singer they've always had. One of the other guys disappeared.

Given my fanaticism for another Welsh band, people would suppose my knowledge of this band came from that. ACTUALLY, I knew about the Manic Street Preachers before I knew about Super Furry Animals.

But I think Lifeblood is pretty lifeless. And mediocre. Anyway, The Holy Bible is a classic.

What the heck? Maybe I worded my question wrong. In the initial post it says the Decemberists are playing Richards on Richards in Vancouver, BC. Ticketmaster.ca doesn't list the show, so I was wondering if anyone knew of alternate methods of getting the tickets, as in another reseller.

Look them up on Google and stop trolling the thread.

I didn't mean to troll, I was hoping someone would give me a quick and dirty synopsis of the band/type of music. It seems like lots of people here know who they are. Usually fans are eager to spread the word about a band they like.

Nothing is the same after THB for them. I initially didn't know what to make of Lifeblood, but it's grown on me. Some great cuts on there in my opinion. They can do no wrong in my mind :) Well except for "Damn Dog" on GT...

Ah, now I understand...

The Decemberists are kinda folksy-sea shanty type music. Stories of revolutionary war characters abound in the lyrics... They really should be heard to be understood. I can see how they could be a love/hate type thing, but give them a chance.

The Decemberists are a band from Portland, OR. They make pirate music. At least that's what I like to think, they write indie pop songs with a very heavy sea-faring vibe. The lead singer, Colin Meloy, actually has a voice very similar to the lead guy from Our Lady Peace.

That's an interesting comparison. Though I'd say Colin's is much more "steady" than the OLP lead vocalist. The OLP guy is all over the place, which is great.

I need to get "Picaresque" so badly, but I've yet to find it on the bluebird.

When Colin hits the higher notes, he has that warbly high-pitched thing going on, much like the dude from OLP.

I've given up any attempts to find Picaresque prior to it's official release, just too damn hard to find a single track these days.

Isn't Picaresque the name of the album?

Man, 2005 is going to be such an incredible year for music. Decemberists, Sigur Ros, new Radiohead material, Flaming Lips... etc. It's ridiculous really...

I'm always open to expanding my musical horizon. I'll try to sample some songs online if I can find them and see what I think. Thanks for the reviews.

I guess they could sorta be considered a "NMH-lite", but for me that's great. NMH is way too heavy to be listened to all the time. I guess I put the Decemberists in a similar vein as the Shins.

What is the big deal with the Decemberists? They've always come off as a sub-par Neutral Milk Hotel imitation to me...
They make awesome songs that sound way better to me than Neutral Milk Hotel's after repeated listens. I loved In the Aeroplane Over the Sea the first few listens, but then it just fell apart and I could no longer stand it.

I like The Decemberists' pirate theme, I like the accordion, I love Colin Meloy's voice, and I like how their songs are structured. Plus, listen to The Tain. That's one of the greatest songs I've heard in a long time. Five parts, all great.

Answer me this: What's so good about The Arcade Fire? I've seen them compared to the likes of Neutral Milk Hotel, yet all I can think of when I listen to them is more mediocre indie fare, like The Dears or something. Pure boredom. It sounds too earnest for its own good.

I don't really like the Arcade Fire much, bar 2 or 3 songs, so I couldn't answer that. I'm as baffled as you are in that regard...

Well, The Decemberists are really good. Check The Tain out if you haven't.

I genuinely don't hear any similarity between Neutral Milk Hotel and Decemberists aside from Colin Meloy's nasal voice.
