The digital future is here! Or not.

So I wanted to buy an album, mp3 album. I'm in EU. The first stop was Amazon, naturally. Amazon UK says I must have an UK address to do that, so did they customer service via chat. They directed me to Amazon US. But US and DE both keep complaining about my purchase option that it is somehow - nothing spesific - just not right for digital shopping.

So I check them out. Nothing is wrong, my card is up to date and trying to delete it, it actually says I can't delete it because it is my default for digital purchases.

Then I have been browsing online for 20 minutes trying to find an option where to buy it from. Guess what, I can't find any. I can even find a vinyl version but no mp3 album. In 2020.

At this point I can't help thinking of the one way I would be able to get the album in mp3 format in two minutes or less.

Also, I find it absurd I can't buy and download any movie to my computer - like that would much to help piracy, they are all there already.

I mean, from business perspective and as means to fight piracy it would make sense to make music and movies more readily available. Game companies are luckily starting to figure that out but that is a slow process too.

I just find this strange. Like how if people stop going to theaters or concerts or whatever, the logic is to RAISE the prices to make up the lost income instead of lowering them and getting more visits from people who normally won't go. Because limiting purchasing options and raising prices feels illogical in the long run.

Buying MP3s on Amazon is like buying buying a dress shirt at Walmart. It doesn't make sense.

Buy your music from either iTunes, Google Play, or HDTracks.

Movies same, minus HDTracks.

Edit: Bandcamp is also a viable option for MP3s.

have you heard about this thing called brexit? UK is no longer in the EU.

I still buy physical when possible. Just bought the CD Twin Peaks: Music From The Limited Event Series from Amazon and ripped it to my computers at home and work, then put it in a box with the rest of my CDs.

I've had issues with buying albums digitally, some albums I've bought on itunes had tracks that would skip, I contacted support each time and had new files supplied and it was the same thing. Never had that with a physical CD.

I prefer digital. I had quite a lot of dvds before but I digitized them all. I love there is no hassle, I just start Plex and find the episode I want. Same with games, no disc swapping.

Also having moved eight times have taught me to appreciate digital even more.

Skipping digital tracks sounds weird though.

i've been digital for about 20 years, not interested in going back

i'll fight and claw to get us past analogue

I am 99% digital everything (books, movies, music). I do have a soft spot for solid recordings collected on vinyl though. I try to limit these purchases to just albums I adore and that will likely sound good analog. Older recordings especially sound so damn good on vinyl.

Prefer Physical pver Digital.

Bought some digital music but it doesn't feel right. Would rather rip it off CD and have both options.

I get my mp3s from amazon because they let me download them easily and put them on my Plex. I don’t think google or Apple offer that.
Have been known to use https://bleep.com/ when I want flac.
