_____________?

The one that Jack has
when he turns into Tyler. While he's asleep, Tyler becomes him, yadda yadda why am I spoilering this?

I need to know because I found out recently that I have it.

Jeez, I fucking hope not. Since I saw Identity, that's the last thing I want. I don't want my personalities to kill each other.

It's very rare. Are you sure that's what you have?

AFAIK, personalities don't have to like each other but they're not destructive as they're all aware that they share the same body (AFAIK anyway).

Do you mean "schizophrenia"?

Jesus fucking christ, they're not even close to the same thing.

At least you can spell it though.

Fight Club is not really representative of real MPD, I don't think. I don't even think it's really derived from MPD, it's just a scenario completely from the author's head. More along the lines of the old "am I dreaming of a butterfly, or am I the butterfly dreaming about a man?" question.

I'm not sure, that's why I queried the GAF. I just learned that I wake up and do shit while everyone else is asleep. They said that my eyes were open and I had perfectly normal motor skills (I didn't talk). I'm really freaking out and I'm going to go to a psychiatrist or something, but I want to give them a general area of where my problem is at.

That's just sleep walking. Far, far, less serious than DID.

I was thinking that too. But I opened a drink and played CS for an hour, then went back to bed.

I can't believe I didn't say anything during CS... :lol

Sleep walking, I use to do that when I was a kid. I remember this one time I couldn't control my body and had to wake myself up...really weird. Yeah, you shouldn't be too worried. I would walk around and do stuff without remembering, I even walked outside the house a few times. Thank god my mom heard me opening the door and was able to stop me.

I think most people with multiple personalities know about them. I've just seen interview and the people seem to have knowledge of them and would remember what they said or did, they just didn't have control over the situation.

People have told me I must have another personality, but I'm just moody. My emotions flip around a lot, but I don't think it's that bad. I want to be loved, but I hate being loved. o_O

Still sleepwalking.

That's what sleepwalking is. You do things you'd normally do while awake, but you're asleep and have no memory of them. There's the recent case of a woman having sex while sleepwalking, there's been someone who murdered someone while sleepwalking, and supposedly there are people who will drive while sleepwalking.

You're not Tyler Durden :p

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
If you don't know the difference bewteen, MPD/DID, schizophrenia and sleepwalking...then there really is something wrong with you.

Is it me or did anyone see a penis flash at the end of Fight Club? My friend rented the movie and the part where Jack and that girl are watching those buildings blow up we saw a flash of a penis.

Sometimes we see things that aren't there, just because we want them to be there. You wanted that penis to flash up on the screen...badly.

That was part of the movie, remember? Tyler use to cut porn images into children's movies. I think it happens in some other places as well.

That's sleepwalking. MPD is extremely rare, there's only a few well documented cases where it was really proven it was MPD.

Something funny... there really is no suck thing as multiple personallity disorder.

You say you recently found out you have it. Found out by whom? A person who told you "You know that disease that guy has from fight club? Yeah, you have it."

Couldn't they tell you the name of what they were diagnosing you with?

It's existence is arguable, isn't it?
Yup. Like I said, only a few well documented cases of it can be found. The thing is, it's been used many times by people trying to get out of a crime accusation.

About a year ago I went and ran up and down the parking lot of my building around 3 AM until I finally, gradually, regained consciousness and realized what the hell I was doing. It scared the hell out of me so now I have an extra lock on my door just because of sleep walking. I hide the key between books/DVDs every night and try to cover it with as much junk as possible. :p

I've been sleep walking since I can remember but now that I live alone it's a bit scarier...

What’s weird is that I see that I am sleep walking but somehow my brain just doesn't compute it and when I wake up I remember what I did (like trying to open the bathroom door for 15 minutes).

It may very well exist. I used to know some guy with intense schizophrenia that was almost there. While schizophrenia is not multiple personality disorder, multiple personality disorder/dissociative identity disorder may be an ultra-tiny subset of schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia was right out. MPD sounded feasible, since I had no recollection of anything happening and I was told that I was wide awake. But since everyone is saying that it's probably sleepwalking (albeit intense), I shouldn't worry about it.

i think the goal of therapy for did is to attempt to make all the personalities understand that they are sharing the body and eventually integrate...someone who isn't being treated might not realize that they even have other personalities.

either way though, it's a pretty debatable disorder.

I've even heard of people cooking while sleepwalking, it's really nothing out of ordinary, don't worry too much about it. You can always consult to make yourself feel more secure.

is sleepwalking different from rem behavior disorder (when your body keeps muscle tone, preventing the paralysis of rem sleep so you act out your dreams), or is sleepwalking just a generic term for it?

They're not considered the subsets of each other at all, any more than you can mix depression or bipolar in. A person may change a lot while having a schizophrenic attack, but it's not a fundamental change in personality. It's a change in their perception of the world around them.

Also, schizophrenia is well documented and the symptoms are generally treatable through medication, while MPD ... well, doesn't meet the same requirements either way. Schizophrenia is also widely believed to be hereditary to some degree, and as such genetic.

The only reason people confuse them is because schizophrenia means 'split mind', but the split is between your ability to perceive and your ability to think, not between distinct personalities.
