I'd be very interested to play this if they let us go full evil and sadistic pagan for once.

MOI mentioned. Fucking based. One of the best books (and series) I've ever read.

Yeah, speaking of those books. I'm kinda curious about these books now. I googled it and apparently I should start with Gardens of the Moon, would you agree? Also the writer apparently admitted his books are hard to get into and AI is saying it's often good to have a guide handy for extra lore or something?

I definitely want to give those books a try, but I don't want to get too "crazy" with needing to check out guides and shit either. Or would you say that's not necessary?

So, that small part where that Orc (or whatever it is) pukes on the ground and the pigs eat it up... I've seen that before. I got an immediate sense of deja vu when I saw that.

Am I crazy or has that same scene happened in another game or movie?

Beyond Good and evil 2 first trailer? Where pig eats a fly?

Like something Terry Gilliam would have done, like Mr Creosote in Meaning of Life.

I'm planning on making a dent in my Malazan backlog when it comes to 2026. I want to read Books 3 to 7 at least. I'm hoping I can get through The Bone Hunters since hearing that book is a slog to read is a worry. I love Deadhouse Gates
Bonehunters is one of the best. If you have read Gardens of the Moon you have already got past the worst in the series. The books after that are actually harder because Erikson really assumes you are ride or die Malazan and want the hard stuff. Reapers Gale is a bit of a downer, while some people really like it, it does tie together a lot of strands. Toll the Hounds is just a bit conceptually difficult in terms of overall Philosophy of the series. Then Dust of Dreams isn't even fully like a complete novel, meaning you have to think of the last two volumes as one huge book.

Hey. Nice to see more people getting interested in Malazan. My advice is to just start with Gardens of the moon and stick with the original release order of the mainline; you yourself will know when/if to deviate as per your taste, so i advise taking a cursory glance at the other novels and series within the universe after you finish GoTM.

As for difficulty yes its difficult. But you don't need supplementary material at all, just might need to go over the in-novel index and map from time to time whenever you're confused about a name or location.

The biggest hurdle is to realize that you won't have a 100% grasp of what's going on paragraph to paragraph. Just understand that that's completely normal as a first time reading of Steve Erikson.

The Wicker Man, did not love the movie(a bit too much singing for my taste), but it's somewhat hypnotic. Really like the idea and concept of it though. And Christopher Lee's voice and charisma was as good as always.

This song and scene was great though, really atmospheric.

Yeah, gardens of the Moon is the first, start there. You don't need a guide. Just expect that things aren't going to make sense for a while. There is a list of characters in every book that is very helpful to keep referring to. But other than that don't worry, just read and enjoy it. Things will start clicking as you keep reading
