I'm not a psychologist so I'm not privy to answering that question.
One seeks the warmth of others because she is lonely and through desolation it only becomes worse for that character. She leaves a trail of destruction. In this case, nature and everyone around them but not by choice. The lady lures people with her looks and kills them. A true monster perhaps.
