Just think what 141 billion dollars would have done towards Hydrogen cell research and infrastructure
Blasphemy. You can't give that $140B directly to the people who need it, you idiot. You have to give it to the rich guys on top first. Let them get a feel for the fabric, then they buy yachts and mansions with it, which helps create jobs for realtors and yacht crews and landscapers. Then, they also hire people to clean these places, which creates great jobs in the service industry. And then they buy fancy cuisine, which employs chefs and so on. You see, you have to let it trickle-down, baby. It's Reaganomics, kid. You must not have taken Math for Idjits. It's all explained in Chapter 11. ;) :lol

NPR and BBC reports of the bill signing made note that it wasn't a big press event. I wonder why this administration wouldn't want to make a big deal out of giving another $140 billion to rich people....hmm. 4 more years! Flip-flop. And so on. PEACE.

Our national energy policies have failed in the last 30 years under any and every president.. oops let me rephrase.. promises promises.. oh crap.. I didn't keep that energy promise.. I hope the next prez o dent fixes it for me.

Pass the buck. So every administration is to blame. We've never really had a national energy policy (ink on paper doesn't count ;) ), that's why we're dependent on foreign oil, natural gas, etc.

But didn't we just pass the No Lobbyist Left Behind bill this past year? What do you mean we don't have a national energy policy? Wait, we don't have a GOOD national energy policy you mean. ;) PEACE.

As long as the American public are willing and continue to keep buying SUVs that go 10mpg, the government and car companies will not change.

Dude I saw a Dodge Ram on the road today, never even seen that before. Looked at that plate, sure enough it was from Ohio.

Guys, what are you doing? Do you want tanks to go along with all your guns, because that damn thing took up a whole lane. Freaked me out.

And its been shown that the high price of oil isn't detering people from doing so.

Weird. They are everywhere where I live. Was it a Ram SRT10 w/ the Viper engine?

Maybe I haven't found the thread, but is anyone discussing Bush's $136 billion corporate taxcut bill that was signed a few days ago? I'm surprised it's gone so quietly.

Oh and when it says farmers, I really think they need to clarify that this benefits corporate farms more than family ones. As much as people would like us to believe otherwise, there is a distinction.

Edit- Don't mean to sway discussion, but I'm afraid to make a new thread only to see it locked. Plus, I thought this is somewhat related. =P

What's up with the political threads being locked anyways?

Its pretty silly to assume that an additional $140 billion would go alternative fuel cell vehicles. He's only proposed $1.2 billion before now so anyone thinking that any 'additional' monies would in any way help fuel cell vehicles is misguided beyond reason.

The only fuel cell vehicles IN the states don't even come FROM the states. Sad when Ford is using Toyotas hybrid engine in their vehicles.

At least they're using it. I don't generally hold American automakers in high regard, it stems from a childhood filled with GM and Ford-made cars that would fall apart in a slight breeze - but I have a modicum of respect for Ford now. I just hope that they put the hybrid technology in more than just the Escape. A hybrid Explorer would send a huge signal to the other car makers that it's time to get off the crude needle.

I think more people would by hybrid SUVs. I mean, they aren't buying them for performance, I hope. I've basically got two Corolla engines in my driveway that each get around 30mpg. I couldn't stand driving one of those landships around and spending half my week's pay to fill her up. I'm hope they either go hybrid, or go out of style. I'm tired of having to share the road with those things.

This hasn't been mentioned much b/c it wasn't publicised much. The admin wanted to keep it low-key, and the media obliged. It might not look so good to give yet another huge tax cut in the time of recession and ballooning war costs. :? PEACE.

I think it's sad if that is the case.

Some details on the bill:

* 24 separate provisions that incrase incentives for corporations to continue outsourcing.
* $10.1 billion given to tobacco growers. A part of the bill that would've granted FDA ability to regulate tobacco industry was removed.
* Makes corporate farms eligible for an expanded manufacturing tax benefit.
