The five best PS2-games?

Ask again when Shadow of the Colossus and Okami are out in Europe (and I've worked on my backlog some more). But for now:

1. Gradius V
2. Gitaroo Man
3. MGS3
4. Silent Hill 2
5. Project Zero 1

1. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2. God Of War
3. Grand Theft Auto 3
4. Final Fantasy X
5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

1. Dark Cloud 2

That game was so boring and tedious at some points.

Well to each his own

1. Metal Gear Solid 2
2. Ace Combat 5
3. Ace Combat 4
4. Dynasty Warriors
5. Katamari Damashi

1. Dark Cloud 2
2. Metal Gear Solid 3
3. Gran Turismo 3
4. Dragon Quest VIII (possibly because I'm heavily into it currently, as I've been playing it for 40 hours and loving it)
5.Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando

So many great Ps2 games.

1- Dragon Quest VIII
2- Final Fantasy X
3- God Of War
4- Devil may Cry 3
5- Shadow of The Colossus

I could fill a top 20 very easily... :D

1. Rez - The whole concept of "unlocking" different pieces of the song really appeals to me, who's been heavily into electronic music since 1997 or so.

2. Dragon Quest 8 - When I was a kid, I would dream about an RPG with an expansive 3D world that stretches on for miles, with classic gameplay and gorgeous music. The DQ series is probably my second favorite RPG series ever, and this is just a perfect modernization of the previous DQ games, without deviating from the stuff I loved about the originals - quick and painless combat, large worlds and cool dungeons, a story consisting of many small, clever vignettes... where you don't have to worry about getting bogged down in 30 minutes of cutscenes.

3. ESPGaluda - One of the best and most refined shooters I've ever played. Kakusei mode is such a great addition to this genre, as it makes the endless bullet curtains a bit more manageable. Game also features a nice soundtrack, good mix of trance and video game tuney stuff.

4. Shadow Hearts: Covenant - A great play on the FF PSX formula. Great characters, a nice story, the cool and customizable Judgement Ring system, plus the whole 'alternate history' storyline really appeals to me.

5. Ico - A much more refined game than Colossus, plus the story gripped me more. Beautiful environments and some great environmental puzzles/platforming. The whole feeling of being isolated in a world, thrown there with no idea what's going on, was something that's rarely done in a game, giving me flashbacks to Zelda 1, my favorite game as a little kid.

Runners up: Gradius V, MGS3, Ys:The Ark of Napishtim Shadow of the Colossus, Digital Devil Saga, Mushihime-sama, Dark Cloud 2

1. DMC3:SE, It was already the king of all action game when it was release, but now with the extra content, playable Vergil and Super Nelo Angelo, it is complete.

2. DMC. The game that started it all, it re-invented the 3D all-out-hardcore action game. Since then many have tried to copy it.

3. Zone of the Enders 2.

4. Kingdom Hearts 2.

5. Resident Evil 4.

01. Metal Gear Solid 3
02. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution
03. God of War
04. SOTC
05. Tekken 5

Putting together these top 5 lists for systems always makes me realize how few truly great games there were, especially when I tried to do it for the X-Box. Anyway, my list (I'll use the rule that I'll only count games that came out on NA PS2 first):

1. Winning Eleven 7
2. SSX Tricky
3. San Andreas
4. Rez
5. Burnout 3

Metal Gear Solid 3
Katamari Damacy
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Zone of the Enders 2
Devil May Cry

Of what I've played:

1) Devil May Cry 3
2) Dragon Quest 8
3) ICO
4) Katamari Damacy
5) Dark Cloud 2

But I haven't played much.

Trying not to include anything I didn't honestly, thoroughly enjoy:

Mad Maestro
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec
Rez
Suikoden III
Sly Cooper & the Thievius Raccoonus

What happened to Ryuga Gotoku? :(

I'm keeping my list to games that can be enjoyed by English-only speakers. Hence no rpgs :P

Otherwise yeah, I'd fit Ryu Ga Gotoku and FFX somewhere in there.

1. Shadow Hearts: Covenant
...
...
...
...
2. Digital Devil Saga 1+2
3. Shadow of the Colossus
4. Winning Eleven 8
5. Metal Gear Solid 2

is RRV worth it today? has it aged well? I loved RR on PSP, but I've never played the ps2 one...
(mini thread hijack)

ICO
GTA: San Andreas
Shadow of the Colossus
Ratchet and Clank
Dragon Quest 8

I guess I should say those are 5 I really liked because there are other I love as well. FFX, the Jak games, Vice City, Devil May Cry, etc.

-Final Fantasy X
-Silent Hill 2
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Silent Hill 4
-ICO

Honorable Mention: Silent Hill 3, Disaster Report, Metal Gear Solid 3, Katamari Damacy, Red Faction, Shadow of Destiny

Too difficult to come up with five, though FFX, SOTC, and DMC3/SE would definitely be on the list. I'd feel bad filling in the other two spots out of a pool of like ten games I think deserve it.

Though, really, this thread should be postponed about a year. There are some massive titles set to release this year.

If you're including multi console games:

Burnout Revenge
ATV Offroad Fury 2
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
SSX On Tour
Stuntman

In no particular order:

-Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
-God of War
-Gran Turismo 4
-Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
-Twisted Metal Black

I know people aren't likely to agree on the last one but IMO it's the best damn multiplayer game on the PS2.

Special Nomination --> SOCOM 3: US Navy Seals / SOCOM II: US Navy Seals for the best online component on PS2.

I picked exclusives only since I own all three consoles.

DMC3SE - Best Action title on PS2
Dynasty Warriors 5 - Amazing update for the series
Digital Devil Saga 1+2 - Fav RPG on the system
Soul Calibur 3 - Made me a big fan of the series
SF Anniversary Collection - Third Strike is the best fighter on the system, bar none

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance: Best Metal Gear title.
Ridge Racer V: Best Racer. I've logged enough miles to do the Pac Man race dozens of times over.
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner: Awesome action, awesome controls, and hey, the story is great too.
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution: Kumite mode was great. Arcade tour is better. Really the best 3D fighter and then some.
Gitaroo Man: Best rhythm game ever. Ouendan is nice, but this is the undisputed champ.

My favourite 5 PS2 exclusives (in no particular order):

Metal Gear Solid 3
Virtua Fighter 4: Evo
Klonoa 2
Devil May Cry 3
Amplitude

1. Ico
2. Shadow of the Colossus
3. God of War
4. Guitar Hero
5. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

If we're limiting this to PS2 exclusives, replace The Sands of Time with Dragon Quest VIII.

Final Fantasy 11
GT4
Victorious Boxers
Way of the Samurai
Ace Combat 5

Those are the best that I own but I haven't played alot of PS2 games.
