Is there any place (if it's okay to ask?) on the net where I could watch the Jerez test, since it's not broadcasted live here sadly, doh! :O

I doubt it will be broadcast anywhere live. Your best chance of seeing any testing is to get a few mins of highlights at the end of each day.

you will usually find some streams on the net when the tests are running, just wait

yeah, they are fun for about 15 minutes.
after that you rather just look at the laptime tables at the end of the day and try to figure out how much red bull is sandbagging

First test can be interesting but after that its typically by the numbers, at the first test you have a much greater chance of things not going to plan and other interesting quirks.

Think of the mclaren a few years back, it shot straight out of the box and was almost a comical mess to drive.

Also, the cars look hideous.

All bar 1, the mclaren.

Do we really think McLaren are looking at the other cars now and thinking, "fuck, why didn't we think of that!"...?

Surely they looked at the step and decided that the solution they went for would be the most effective... right?

Finally someone with some sense. Do McLaren fans really have no faith in their team? I don't care if McLaren does well or not, but even I know that they picked that design for a good reason. There wasn't this much panic last year when they had the weird sidepods, everyone just thought they were cool and innovative and in the end they didn't make or brake the car.

It'd be less worrying if McLaren didn't have a pretty consistent trend of starting the year out with at least one major flaw in their car. When literally every other team has opted to run in a different way than you have you're either in a very good position (think Brawn 09) or you're screwed. And when it comes to aero matters I wouldn't put money against Newey.

Youtube.

There's normally a bunch of round-ups uploaded by people at the track, just keep an eye out in this thread for the links.

Williams have a great live timing site for testing and even Sky Sports this year may have something decent.

sooo can not wait for testing to begin.

are the bbc going to do anything about testing?
A few reports here and there and blogs from Andrew Benson, but that's it really. The BBC haven't done anything substantial for testing since they started covering F1.

Q: Have you thought of a name for the car yet?
SV: Not yet, no name yet! To be honest, last year we found a name I think Wednesday before the first race, in that race week, so we might be a bit earlier this year, but so far, no names. We have a couple of candidates, hot candidates, but nothing is decided yet!

lol :p

is there a live stream or anything for the tests?

i cant believe its tomorrow already

I love the look of the McLaren but worry about how well it will perform. If it doesn't have the pace, the nose will be blamed rightly or wrongly. If they're the only team without the step I will be concerned. On that note, can they change it later on if they need to? I know new wings come out throughout the season but the steps seem to be right between the front wing assembly and the chassis. I'm not too familiar with the rules but I don't think you can change the chassis during the season.

I would not worry for Mclaren, they have a lot of experience with low nose design, but we won't see true picture until Q1 in Melbourne.

Sandbags will fly :D

there isn't really anything to worry with mcl.
they are continuing their design philosophy from last year where they already sported the lower nose. Everyone else was running the RBR style high nose.
this year mcl is continuing their style and everyone else the rbr style - so the nose reg shouldn't really change up things.
Also you don't really hear teams lamenting the nose regs, the loss of downforce on the rear seems to be a much bigger issue.

I don't think it's too illogical to have questions about the McLaren design when every other team has gone with a different design.

Well in a world in which McLaren didn't have a naturally lower car to begin with, I'd agree. But they do, so I don't.

As has been pointed out countless times already, there's never going to be a single solution to any engineering problem in F1, and just as we saw last year, you can have very different looking cars (with largely completely different innards) still be remarkably close on pace. That's what's so fascinating about F1.

As for all the other teams going for the duckbill nose, put it this way; it's easier to implement a step nose and use that to refine and build upon the knowledge and design of your existing car than it is to lower the thing and essentially start from scratch just to avoid the new nose. With this in mind, this will likely also put McLaren in a very good position next winter when everyone else has to lower the rest of their noses.

As for Mercedes, they had a very duckbill looking nose last year, albeit a bit smoother, so I expect they'll have a similar looking one this year.

P.S. I actually rather like the look of Sauber's nose. Madness.

Fixed that for ya :p that is if anyone thinks they can steal the pole away from Mr. Pole and his new sexy car.
