Oh man, it is impossible not to grin ear to ear seeing the Kimi times. So excited for his return. Come on Lotus, give him a decent car for the season, I can't wait!

Some of the step noses are awful, but I don't think that it makes the McLaren "beautiful" by default. It is rather boring looking. At the very least, McLaren's departure from the other designs affords Hamilton a few race weekends of excuses for his mistakes.

Finally, a shot of the RB8's rear.

On McLaren low nose, Newey says it makes sense for them to do that, is part of their longterm direction, doesn't expect big performance diff
McLaren fans can rest a bit easier now as Newey's not one to talk nonsense.

These look very complex. Are they legal? And the diffuser certainly seems to have two levels to it.... pushing their luck?

Like it matters, the FIA will just turn a blind eye like they always do for RBR.

They are legal for now and other teams are expected to utilise them this season. It's not clear in the McLaren image above, but they have them too.

Word has it Nurburgring F1 contract has been cancelled after the race operators were fired =/
Hockenheim on a permanent basis and the return of the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring (A1 Ring) would be good. If Austria can't afford to hold a race every year, they could alternate with Germany.

Another low lap count for Mclaren. It seems that they are comparing on track data with that from simulator, as they did last year.

Not surprising as they have one of the better simulators in F1. That's not going stop some McLaren fans from going through the motions, like previous years though. From extreme highs to terrible lows all in the space of a few weeks of testing.

Oh boy... Well, this is one way for them to get heat into the tires, they have been struggling with that for the past few years. :lol

Glad Kimi is back! That Macca does look sexy though. Loving the Williams livery, hope it sticks for the season, they've been known to breakout a testing-only livery every now and then.

Love how curvy the F2012 is! Definitely a departure from the previous few cars they've put out.

The Lotus Renault definitely has the most aesthetically pleasing stepped nose. That RBR solution is hideous. (But I'm sure the car is gonna be top of the class again. :/)

Mystery solved, Newey on the slot/duct on the nose, driver cooling:

Adrian Newey said:
"The slot in the nose is simply driver cooling. Traditionally the driver cooling slot is at the front of the nose, but really for styling as much as anything we moved it to where you now see it to break up the aesthetics of the ramp."

I think this shot shows exactly how Ferrari are getting around the regulation regarding the mandated angle of the exhausts. From behind it can be seen that exhaust does point slightly upwards, and the burnt upper bodywork would bear this out. However, if the flow stays attached along the downward leading bodywork of the shroud, the exhaust gases will be forced downwards, towards the diffuser/beam wing/brake ducts. Particularly crafty from the Scuderia, if it works, and is the sort of loophole that one would expect Red Bull to find and exploit.

It's common courtesy to edit a post so it doesn't keep getting bumped, especially when nobody has posted since your last post.

I know mclaren777 doesn't have much courtesy, being a horrific homophobe, but I expect even him to comply to forum etiquette.

5 fucking posts in a row? Seriously?

Gotta pad that post count.

I too, was once like you, Mclaren7777777777. Hated the Scuderia and everything that Schumi stood for. I supported Macca because of Kimi. When he joined Ferrari, I stopped caring about McLaren and their stupid unreliable cars (this goes back to the Kimi/DC days) and learned to love the way Ferrari did stuff. It feels so old school. Yeah I know they haven't had the best history (FIA politics, etc), but I love Domenicalli's easy going demeanor and how he's basically the opposite of the old regime. Still wish they ran a tighter ship though, the team gets sloppy during tense situations come race time.

They got Kimi the title he long deserved that McLaren couldn't provide him and for that, I'm thankful to Ferrari. I'm still rooting for them, but definitely pulling for Kimi to have some surprise results this year as well. When on top of his game, he was the fastest out there.
