I totally agree, great idea, totally gone wrong in implementation. From the wonky camera to the horrible driving sequences. It's like the cops have a magnet that automatically draws them to your car, smashing you and them to pieces. And the blinking tail lights that are supposed to tell you where to go in London, well maybe I'm stupid, but they didn't work all that well for me.
I think the most annoying thing was that you couldn't by pass the ingame movie sequences at all.
Sorry for the diatribe, but well I guess you can tell I didn't care much for the game, IMO it could have been so much better.
Buy it and then wait for a good trade in deal at EB/Gamespot.
I bought 18 of the $5 Circuit City games last summer, played them all once, and then this January traded them back to EB when they had an "any two games = $10 trade-in bonus" deal running and I skated away with a 90% profit.
Still... I'd rather add the Getaway to my coaster collection than my gaming one.
as much as i want to say that the 1st getaway was a really, really good game... i just can't do that in all decency. but still, i had a lot of fun playing it. i'd definitely spend 5 bucks on it, if i didn't already own a $50 copy. damnit.
Not :lol . That means it's a clearance. EB does this every week. That means the new price is going up in a day or two.
And I better edit before people jump in and say, "But why don't they lower the used price then!?!" They don't have an overstock of the used copies. They have too many new copies. If they lowered the used price when they lowered the new price, some people would buy the used one, and the whole point is to blow through excess new inventory.
it was ok, i picked it up for $30 around the time it came out, and didn't really regret it. Not in the same league as GTA, but a fun shooter, especially if you're into Winback. Very similar action gameplay.
I disagree there. The sequel had plenty of problems, but the gameplay was simply "more fun". The original is very limited in comparison.
On foot, you are capable of more in the second one...and while some of it is incredibly unrealistic (the one hit take downs), it makes for some decent gameplay mechanics that are enjoyable enough.
In a vehicle, the handling was improved quite a bit and made dashing through the cities much more enjoyable. Also, cops and enemies no longer attempted to suicide into your car quite as often (which was awful). In addition to that, they added a map (which is a HUGE plus) AND reduced vehicle damage. The original game had you constantly dealing with suicide cops while switching vehicles every few blocks with very little idea of where you were going.
First game just wasn't a lot of fun, though I enjoyed the plot. The second one was actually quite fun, though, and I'm glad to have rented it.
