The Gift Giving Gamer thread!

It's that time of year, and even if you don't believe in any of the supernatural stuff, or the crass commercialization - FREE ISHT = GOOD!

My parents placed me in charge of shopping for my siblings since I'm such a hip and happening dude.

My plan is simple, get the kid as many games as possible.

He wanted an Xbox, but seeing as how he couldn't name any Xbox exclusive games that he plays over his friends house and combined with the fact that he and his friends still play the Nintendo 64; I opted for the Gamecube.

The Target Mario Kart bundle is the cats ass, has more games aimed at his age group, and access to all the crap multi-platform stuff he enjoys on his friends Xbox.

I'm going to try raping the EB Black Friday sales when I'm ostensibly at work. If I can score six games for his new GC and PS2 combines, I think I'll be seeing one happy kid.

Not to mention I want to be able to crush the hopes and dreams of him and his friends with Princess Peach in Smash Bros. Then ownzerize them in Mario Kart with Daisy. Wooooooooo!

So what are you fruitcakes giving?

Yay, TToB's not a total misanthrope yet! (irc thang)

My brother's getting March Madness 2005 for Xbox. He pretty much plays sports games exclusively and it was on his list.

I'm giving my girlfriend a GBA SP, her brother Final Fantasy I+II and her other brother Metroid Prime 2.

The two brothers are also receiving DS's so I'll finally be able to put DS multiplayer to the test.

in the spirit of the DS, I am giving random women the chance to use the stylus in my pants.

:lol :lol :lol

I'm getting my GF DDR w/Eyetoy, Donkey Konga w/bongs, and Karoke Revolution. I figure I'll play Donkey Konga and she got me WoW out of the blue and MGS3 for our anniversary

Katamari isn't my cup of tea, but there are a few sweet $19.99 and under PS2 games out recently that should fit the bill, in addition to Katamari. I mean games that launch at $19.99 and under, I'm not totally oblivious to Greatest Hits. ;)

Gungrave Overdose and Technic Beat are both really swell.

R Type Final can be found for $19.99 @ CompUSA.

Budget titles rock!

With the tradein value from Duel Masters PS2 and Tak 2 GBA, I'll either get UT2K4 for myself, or a used N64 + Mario 64 for a secret santa program.

Choices, choices.

Charity first dude.

For those looking to be charitable this holiday season, may I suggest my favorite yule-time charity: Child's Play.

Child’s Play works the same as last year. With the help of hospital staff we’ve set up Amazon Wish Lists full of video games, toys, and movies. You can go to each hospital’s list and buy a toy, and that toy will be sent to the hospital. Some of these kids are in pretty bad shape—imagine being stuck alone in a hospital over the holidays--so getting something from a fellow gamer would really raise their spirits. Some of the stuff the hospital will give away for kids to keep, while other gifts (like consoles) will be kept by the hospital for patients to use throughout the year.

Penny Arcade has a readership of something like three and a half million gamers across the world. We are arguably the largest community of gamers on the internet. The important word there being community. This isn’t IGN, this isn’t Gamespy, we are not a faceless corporation and you are not just a number tracked by a database and then relayed to hungry advertisers. You guys have proven yourselves to be a powerful force when stirred into action. Here is your opportunity to use that power to do some real good.

you should've gotten him the xbox because:
A) he wanted it
B) he can trade games with his friend

but the gamecube bundle is pretty tempting.

Again:

1. The games he wants on the are available on the PS2 and GC.
2. His friend is a dirty fucking pirate, and I'm not buying him a mod chip; or explaining the whole means of pirating software to the old folks and the kid.

He'll get the GC a bunch of games and he'll like it.

Fuck the Xbox.

ahhhh, and now the truth comes out.

Ask yourself, what's more important here - my agenda, your agenda, or the fact that the kid is going to get sequels to a bunch of visually tired games he enjoys on the N64 and more? Again, there's nothing specific to the Xbox library that he wants. Thus there is no reason to purchase an Xbox, when there is overwhelming evidence proving that the Gamecube will be the better purchase.

It just helps that I'm there to guide him in the right direction, and it also helps that he is absolutely terrified of me.

It's good to be a positive role model. ^_^

My little sis fell in love with Wind Waker last time I brought the Gamecube home. She told me recently she might ask our parents for a Gamecube and WW or buy them herself. I can't afford to get her a cube, but I hope she gets one one way or the other, because I could easily get her a handful of awesome games she doesn't even know exist, and I could get them cheap.

I'm giving my sister a PSTwo. I may get a friend an Xbox since he hates it so.
