What is The Hard Times of RJ Berger about?
It is a comedy show detailing the plights of a socially awkward high school nerd named R.J. Berger. The show is presented as a coming-of-age story, which is also described by its creators as a mixture of the show "The Wonder Years" and the film "Superbad." Bio: Nature made him scrawny and weird looking, awkward and pale. He's horrible at sports, and even worse at talking to girls. His parents are embarrassing, and he's got more pairs of glasses than friends. But all that is about to change, because nature also gave RJ a gift. And he intends to use it. When his shorts accidentally fall off in front of the entire school, RJ's boring life as Pinkerton High's biggest loser is turned upside down. In a single moment, RJ slingshots from anonymous to infamous: everyone -- from the girl of his dreams, Jenny Swanson, to the meanest jock in school, Max Owens -- knows about RJ, and his not-so-little secret. Swept up in this man-sized wave of recognition, RJ and his best friend Miles set out on a quest to claw their way out of the popularity basement. Whether it's running for SGA president, partying with the Purity Club, starring in Vamp Side Story (a fusion of Westside Story and Twilight), or simply trying to get with the girl next door, sophomore year just got bigger... and a lot harder.

Bio: Miles Jenner has been RJ's best friend since dial-up... and it hasn't been easy. He's everything that RJ isn't: an over-confident, fast-talking scammer whose only ambition in life is getting people to like him -- especially hot chicks with low self-esteem. Driven by his dream of popularity (and his appetite for pudding), Miles is a man with a plan: he's going to use RJ's newfound recognition to infiltrate Pinkerton High's A-list (and maybe catch a glimpse of Robin Pretnar's pepperonis). In order to make the A-list, Miles and RJ will to have to navigate the treacherous waters of sophomore year. They'll come face-to-face with meathead jocks. They'll endure wild, drunken parties surrounded by nerds and geeks. They'll break into a teacher's house (with the help of Miles's insane older brother, Chet). It'll be a long, challenging journey, and through it all, the only thing Miles and RJ will be able to count on is each other.
Lily Miran: The strange chick that digs you but you're too busy to bone. There's always "that chance"...

Bio: Lily Miran loves RJ Berger. She might try to hide it behind her over-the-top, sexually-charged jokes, but the reality is that she is obsessed. Since their first -- and only -- kiss in kindergarten, Lily has wanted nothing more than to be RJ's girlfriend. And since RJ isn't interested, she's willing take whatever she can get, even if it means just being friends... for now. It's all a matter of time to Lily: in her heart, she knows that she'll end up with RJ. It's destiny. Like RJ and Miles, Lily doesn't fit in at Pinkerton High -- and that doesn't bother her, as long as she can be RJ and Miles's third-wheel. She loves fashion and making clothes, hoping that her unique style will make RJ pay attention to her. And when that fails, she's also highly effective at sabotaging RJ's other romantic interests. Underneath her sexual comments and possesiveness, Lily really does care about RJ. From Jenny Swanson's pool party to RJ's fling with the girl next door, she proves herself to be his most dependable friend. And maybe (in time), she'll get to be a lot more than that.

Bio: Jenny Swanson is RJ's dream girl, and it's easy to see why: she's perfect, inside and out. Sure she has blonde hair, big blue eyes, a gorgeous smile and a smokin' body, but she's got a lot more going for her than her Barbie-doll, cheerleader image. She's caring, intelligent, humble and approachable -- exactly the sort of girl RJ deserves. Too bad she dates the biggest douchebag in school, Max Owens. Total boner-killer. As RJ's study-buddy and co-lead in the musical, Vamp Side Story, Jenny is going to spend a lot of time with RJ during sophomore year. The chances of anything happening between them are slim-to-none, but for RJ Berger, anything is possible.

There's no question about it: Max Owens is walking proof that life is not fair. Max's favorite pastime is making losers like RJ feel small. The tables are turned, however, when RJ's enormous gift is revealed to the school: Max goes from being the big man on campus to holding the short end of the stick. Whether competing in the school election or competing for Jenny Swanson, RJ and Max will face-off more than once during sophomore year, and it's never clear if the best man will win.
