The Legend of Vox Machina animated series

Came across this when browsing my Prime Video. No knowledge of source material or D&D in general, so judging it on it's merits. To me looks like a Western style cartoon done well. Humor is pretty low brow and involves all kinds of body fluids and four letter words. Not a masterpiece but so far entertaining, will continue watching for now.

Might watch it, I skipped Campaign 1 of Critical Role that this was based on as it was two years into their private campaign before they decided to start streaming it (plus early episodes had poor audio). With Campaign 2, one can see the campaign in its entirety from start to finish. I’m on Episode 41, it’s been a lot of fun.

Hopefully The Mighty Nein (the characters of Campaign 2) get an animated series someday, I’d absolutely watch that.

I've not spent a lot of time on Critical Role, but for DnD fans this should be a treat. Of course it's gonna be the usual "adult because of language and gore" and not because of any actual adult themes but it's DnD so whateves. I'm curious if any of the DnD woke gets in (does it have dwarves? Looks like a halfling and/or gnome at least. Dinklage is already on the phone!). Is this just 3 eps or is it a weekly drip?

As far as Critical Role goes they don't really talk about their real life opinions as far as I can see, and they've never told anybody they don't want them as a fan. Honestly that's as much as I can ask for these days.

As far as the show, it's funny as hell. This is an adult comedy with foul language, violence and gore, backside nudity, and a lot of sexy-time jokes. Doesn't absolutely require knowledge of D&D, but it does assume it, and you'll miss out on quite a few inside jokes if you come in completely blind. 12 episodes, and it appears they will be released in 3 episode chunks every week.

I liked it a lot, looking forward to more episodes. As someone who has been part of a DnD campaign for over 2 years, it really felt like watching someone's campaign come to life. It is silly/over the top at times, but that pretty much captures the essence of a DnD night. I play as a druid, so it was fun seeing my spells being used - and being used correctly. I was thinking, "Use Entangle!" and bam......she used it right on cue. The orc character is literally our campaign's fighter; we even fought a blue dragon last session and got wrecked just like in the show.

I'm not sure how well the show will translate to those who don't play DnD though. From my perspective, the show has a fourth wall element - the main characters are real people cosplaying as these characters in a cartoon world. It might make the show feel "off" for others.

I loved both seasons... Can't wait for #3 in December

I need to get back to it, I did enjoy the first four episodes of S1 I saw.

I’m more excited for the Mighty Nein adaptation, as Campaign 2 was where I started watching Critical Role (and I’m only on Episode 80-something after 3 years, yeah it’s a long time commitment), as Campaign 1 A) started two years into the campaign as only at that point was Matt suggested to to record their campaign (and I like to see the characters build their bonds from the beginning), B) had poor audio to begin with, and C) Orion was a fairly toxic player who eventually had to be removed from their game due to his repeated misbehavior and cheating (they removed his character in the Vox Machina cartoon).

It's that soon? Is there a trailer for it?

It definitely got better as it went along

No trailer yet as far as I can see.

Edit: I really like live action intro to Critical Role... Ashley Johnson is so cute. I remember her from her early days on Growing Pains.

I still want my Mike Seaver vs Alex P. Keaton spin off and all the child stars turned honeys can show up.

And Leonardo Decaprio had BETTER cameo!
