The Live Concert Thread

John Mayer's Where The Light Is has to be one of my favourite albums ever and the full show is on Youtube. People get filtered by Mayer thinking he just churns out cheesy pop songs, but he's an incredibly talented guitarist who plays a wider range than people realise.

Dave Matthews Band's legendary Central Park show is up there too.

The energy from the Beastie Boys was always super infectious and fun at their concerts, not to mention always mixing their tracks up for live performances.

Hard to pass up AC/DC live.

Aerosmith are pretty awesome live too, saw them twice. Tyler's vocals sound just like the recorded version, it's pretty amazing actually.

And MJ killing it.

Difficult to call my most enjoyable one off the top of my head. I think the most well known one I've been to is this one:

I did prefer L7 and Mudhoney at this one though (TBH everything was a little too saturated with Nirvana at this point).

I will however give a shout out to the Young Gods back in 95 in Bristol - absolutely amazing live

Arte concert (https://www.youtube.com/c/ARTEConcert) is one of the best live music channel on youtube. They have lots of recent stuff, notably every Hellfest concert since i don't know when (they participate to the festival) and everything is pro quality since they are a real tv channel in France.

They really do a tremendous job, go take a look !

Tickets purchased.
  • HEALTH / Street Sects / Perturbator
Rare to see a concert these days where I'm excited about all 3 bands.
Awww yeah! Picked up tix for this about a month ago, really excited for it. Will be the weekend before nin too, extra good 👍

Bought a cheap Leeds Festival friday resale ticket at 9am for Rage Against the Machine and a few other hip-hop acts I like.

Literally 6 hours later Rage cancel all Euro shows this year. Fuck me. Couldn't write it, could you? No refunds so I guess I'm going to a mystery gig with whoever replaces them and Maneskin!

just got home from nin at Red Rocks, absolutely fantastic time. great set lists and the venue is pretty damn great. we had a great time in Denver overall asswell 😎

HEALTH and Perturbator on the 28th was fooking awesome, like one of my favorite shows ever. hadn’t rocked out like that in years, my neck and shoulders hurt for a couple days after 🤭

went ahead and picked up tix again for MCR in Dallas later this month, my kid is going to be ecstatic ☺️

I'm seeing them in the next two weeks, and can't wait! Driving many hours for it, but I just had a gut feeling this was a show I had to see. I looked up the set list they're running with and I'm pretty excited. Missing a few I wanted to see but it looks like 20 songs or so which is quite a bit. And I never saw Street Sects as well, so I'm pumped for all 3 bands.

Next week my brother's band is playing their first show. Two days after that is Sunny Day Real Estate. Blast from the past for sure lol. I still have their Rising Tide CD the singer signed when I saw them in the 90s as a young-in. Not really my style anymore, but I'm getting nostalgic. Then another long trip for Meshuggah in October. Smashing Pumpkins / Jane's Addiction / Poppy in November, a truly bizarre line up lol. I must find out why everyone thinks Poppy is good, so I will see for myself!

Saw Knocked Loose. Didn't realize how over the top the crowd was going to be. Guess they're part of the hardcore scene, so makes sense. Reminds me of straight edge stuff I saw years ago where everyone just tries to pit as violently as humanly possible the entire time lol. They're not totally my thing, but the singer is insane. Crazy stamina.

The opener was a band called Hammerhead. The members are 14, 17 and 19 years old. And they're actually pretty good lol. The singer is like Paige Hamilton from Helmet transported back to Junior High in a new body.

Opening up for them was American Terrorists. 9 people on stage with their shirts off. Was basically like watching Wu Tang Clan mixed with nerdy white people and a clown car.

Martha Argerich, probably the best living pianist alive (and among the GOAT). Let that sink in:
  • She is 77 in that video
  • She plays the full 30 minutes piano concerto without a music sheet - she memorized this, and many other pieces
  • That piece is famously difficult, we are not talking walk in the park that sound nice here
