The Lumines Dream replacing the Tetris Dream?

OK, so first off, thank you GAF for hyping this game, it is my favorite launch title (even more than Ridge Racer--and that's saying a hell of a lot for a RR fanatic like me!). It more than lived up to the hype. The music is fantastic, the gameplay is just what I was looking for to expand from that vanilla Tetris GBA action I've been getting.....Lumines is like, I dunno, white chocolate truffle with macademia nuts.

But, as with Tetris, my few hours of rough sleep each night is plagued with colored squares, constantly rearranging themselves, glowing, dropping, merging..... o_O

On second thought, fuck you GAF for making me an insomniac. :(

Having dreams of Lumines is a high compliment for the game. The only games that have done it to me really bad were Tetris (twice...once on NES and again with The New Tetris on N64) and Minesweeper.

Everybody is hyping this game up so much and I've never been in to puzzle games.. but I'm gonna have to rent this puppy from gamefly to see what's up. The missus loves puzzles games(Bejeweled 2... the game that has the colored balloons that you have to match up) though... this might get ugly....

I'm really surprised by this game. I know I shouldn't be, it's a game the importers and review sites have raved about but...it's even better than I had imagined. The combination of music, color and tetris-like strategy really put me in a hypnotic way. It's the best puzzle game I've played in years.

the quality of the audio must be heard to be believed...my favorite launch game out of what I got...I love how the levels transition :D

Yea, the music is phenomenal. I still suck at the game (high score of 47k), but I'm getting better. I have no idea how the hell I'm going to make it up to scores of 800k that some people are getting!! o_O

Lumines is awesome, but I suck at it as well! :lol

I can only get to the second skin before running out of room. I'm getting better though. Instead of going for one square block, I'm now trying to set up huge chains of multiple blocks to eliminate!

I'm loving the music, especially "Urbanization"... haven't really made it too far yet, I think I unlocked up to that "shake your body" song that's really annoying :P But the background effects, awesome PSP screen, and music... make this even more fun than Tetris to me! Although I have to ween myself off of playing it like a Puyo Puyo game (Every time I play, I've been subconsciously trying to get 4 pieces in a row, instead of just making squares, like you're supposed to do!)

Play your PSP with headphones on... the system isn't very loud by itself but if you have a good pair of headphones (I have a pair of Sony MDR-V150's), you'll really get some bass out of it. Essential for this and Wipeout (and it's much better than hearing recycled N64 tunes or the *AWFUL* Feel The Magic music :P)

is there a soundtrack for this game yet?
No. Roll your own. Nakataka said he was thinking of making one on his blog, and three people said they would buy it in his comments, which made him happy. Now Meteos is out of the door (which he also made a lot of the music for), it might happen.

my high score is like 19k - guess i should read the instructions.

I'm too addicted to this game. I'm starting to see falling blocks when I'm not playing. I'm that crazy

Favorite skin: Music into my soul. The slow BPM and hypnotic skin makes this my favorite

Although I've only played this for a few hours, I've managed to score 88k points so far, which is rougly 30 minutes of game time

A Lumines/Meteos double CD set would be fabulous.

Anyway, yeah, Lumines is really, really great. It just feels awesome to play.

I had the dream last night after forsaking the rest of my 6 PSP games and playing this for hours.

I played against the computer last night for the first time and got to the level with the simple black and white graphics. Holy crap, it was like zen.

Hah. I remember when I had my first dream about Lumines. It came after just the visions during the day of trying to put stuff together but I was shocked when I dreamt about it a few days later. You're just literally playing the game in your head and putting things together. I mentioned that in my review that went up a few days ago. Glad me and my g/f aren't the only ones =)

heh... they refer to this as the "metagame" experience - thinking about playing/doing better in a game when you're elsewhere (not playing it, I don't mean like those people who stand next to someone playing ddr and practice the same moves as the person's doing).

It's been very minimal if at all for Lumines for me, but I had it bad for XI/Devil Dice. Trying to think of the best chain methods to get the highest score in Time Limited. Of course, watching anyone from Japan play, that's just nuts. :)

I only ever had this happen with Military Madness (Nectaris). Forget sleep - even when I close my eyes, I see the blocks. It was the same with MM - hearing the music and seeing the hexes for the board I was stuck on at the time.

Very cool game.

Nobody else dreamt of Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack? That one infected me like nothing before or since.

Hey Bobby, get your butt on IRC again. I have some gdc pics/stories for you.
