The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Played for a couple hours.

I've only done it with the Dualshock 3. Simply, because I can now actually play it with a controller! Also going to try the Hori six-button Fighting Commander and the Neo Geo Pad. Did pull out a stick and will eventually go to that. Eager to try next months WRAP as well!

So, game is identical in all shape to the 360. Menu's seem a little cleaner and crisper but just by a hair...and that just be my mind messing with me since I know it is on a blu-ray. It is all here...the cool X-Mode, the perpetual notification system (can be turned off), and the cummulative Trophy system.

Same Visual Options. I do Lanczos since it is not too softened but not as harsh as nearest neighbor. I've always been pleased with the 360 disc and this one is no different. Lots of love has been put into both.

Anybody who actually finally grabs the PS3 version and still talks shit about 5pb needs to STFU. This company has put together and amazing box...with all the extra OSts, well-produced BD. I now understand the initial 10000+ yen price. $$ is stronger so it worked out to only $100 shipped which is a good $30 cheaper than all the other Cave LEs released in the last few years.

whoa, what caused the delay?

Stupid ass Nippon Yasan shipped it Ferry even tho i don't recall choosing that shipping option. Just remember not to use that option cuz the wait isn't worth it.

Holy shit.

At least it is in good shape!

Yea, it's in perfect condition. No dents or bangs at all. I'm surprised the box held up with the newspaper packaging they use. Guess I'm lucky.

Really tempted to buy ketsui but i just cant afford it right now.
Ill likely have to wait until its a greatest hits , hopefully it will be.

Gonna have to find other means to play it...which i wont mention.

Cave-GAF, I could use some help. I'm having a difficult time finding sprites. Particularly, I'm looking for ship/character sprites. I don't need many. Maybe four total. The only ones I've been able to find so far are from DDP2, and SDOJ is my first DDP game, so I'm straying from using them. I'd like to at least find the Reco and Palm sprites from Futari, but I haven't had any luck. This is for an idea I have for putting new art on my arcade stick, so I'll be posting pics when I'm finished.

Sorry, can't help you on the sprites but I do want to say:

Be sure try to locate the original Mushi Reco sprite. It is a neat one as she is riding side-saddle!

Ahh! You just gave me an idea. I'm taking some screen captures off my iPhone of Mushi so I can see if I can cut out the sprite and blow it up without totally ruining it.

If you set it at the small screen size I think it displays 1:1, worst case you should be able to recreate the sprite completely from a screenshot of it. There's also the bigger/cartoonier Reco sprites from Bug Panic.

And I think someone on Shmups or somewhere was able to do a sprite rip from the PS2 port way back, so maybe look into that.

There's actually software out there by some geniuses that can dump TGA images from Cave arcade data dumps. Can't remember the name, sadly.

i've ordered 5 times from them and this was the only time they pissed me off.
I preordered the Cave Shooting Collection from them and they sent my invoice earlier than expected. I let them know my payment would be coming on a certain day (when my pay check was being deposited). They let me know that was no problem. Cut to payday, I paid them immediately as I promised. The next day they sent me a refund and let me know they no longer had the game in stock. Sigh. By this point it was sold out everywhere and even if I could find it I wouldn't be able to get the soundtrack anyway. Sigh.

Thanks. I'm looking at some captures of small/medium screen size and there is a difference, but not a big one. Still, it might help. I'm going to let my girlfriend take a look as I'm pretty daft when it comes to Photoshop/if one will be easier to work with than the other. I'll see what I can find on shmups.

I'm sure that info. is on shmups as well, though honestly I'd hate to go through that kind of trouble just to get ahold of a few sprites.

that sucks. They also sometimes have really long preparing times that could be a week to two weeks. Really, I feel like they're tracking down stock after accepting preorders already. That's aggravating too. The good thing is they have good prices so I use them if I can.

Got my Ketsui LE today from NCSX. Just as I thought, no pre-order bonus disc. I think I'm done with them. Any other cool places to get imports from? I'm tired of NCSX/Play-Asia, and I don't like how Amiami handle pre-orders. I was thinking of trying out Solaris Japan. Anybody have any experience with them?

I like Solaris. I tend to get my points cards from them now. You can shop in yen too, so prices change accordingly.

Honestly, I'd give AmiAmi another shot. As long as you get the preorder in then they will get the item 99% of the time...usually with bonus (as it is listed in the description until depleted).

As an aside, how the hell does NCSX not have the preorder bonus?! I'd email them...might be another situation like the Cave Box where they did not "know" about the bounus OSTs.

I quit them after they weren't able to acquire the Ni No Kuni preorder books even tho they weren't rare. That why I preordered it from them. They seem to no longer be able to fulfill preorders with the bonuses anymore. Either they or their distributor is screwing us.

Like sixteen said, I recommend AmiAmi as well. They never failed me with the preorder bonuses. Why don't you like the way they "handle" preorders?

Besides the places you've already listed, CD Japan is the only other place I'd consider placing game orders from - if you're after preorder bonuses, they almost always have a live count their item page showing how many they have left. I've never tried Solaris Japan.

NCS may be expensive these days but their customer service always goes above and beyond if you contact them in advance. They've even offered to special order things they don't make available for general sale, though I've always had to say no on account of pricing.

EDIT: It's also worth noting CD Japan still has Ketsui LEs with the external bonus.

Thanks for the tips guys. I forgot that CD Japan does games now. I used them all the time for movies, and they were always cool. I'll give them a shot next time.

I know Amiami is reliable, but I don't like that they don't take any payment info for a pre-order until they get it in stock. The whole point of a pre-order is so I don't have to think about it.

I'd be curious too. I know it is strange and you have to be a bit proactive around release but AmiAmi sends out in stock emails usually Tuesday and then after payment (given the 12+ hour difference) stock is shipped not matter what the next Wednesday. Shipping for one game is cheap for EMS...usually $12-13...which is only a few bucks more than slow-boating.

AmiAmi has not failed me yet. I've also given up on NCSX (for price) and Play-asia (price and lack of guarantees). For me it is either AmiAmi or Amazon.co.jp/Tenso.

Oh, I think it's great, tbh. I like that I can alter what shipping carrier I want when they get it in stock. It's also good that I can preview how much the differences so i like that.

Ah, is "Network Game" Ketsui's Score Attack mode? I thought this was some kind of online co-op mode, but at least that would explain why it didn't register my runs I made in "Record Replay" mode on the leaderboards.

Edit: Yep, it is, my score is now registered on the leaderboard. Now to get back to my record of yesterday...

Yeah,

I always play on network play. Take a split second at the end to check to upload score but it is a good habit. That mode will also give you the option to record and attach your replay to your high score.

There was a guy on shmups who says he thought the low number of players on the leaderboards were because the system was broken and he was not uploading his score...but I've a feeling he was just doing it wrong. Mushi HD has a shockingly low number of players on the leaderbaord so I'm really surprised Ketsui PS3 is tracking similarly.

Yeah, that is a really great feature! Also, the combine for the month is amazing. For example, I've got a Hori stick coming in this month. I'm going to to combine with D&D and it is not going to add anything to the shipping...and AmiAmi carefully holds your items until all items are in stock. Great service!

Edit: jesus, two posts in a row, sorry about that!

It's interesting to note that those are the second ports that both games received. I guess the majority of port-buyers out there satisfy themselves on a first-come-first-serve basis, and aren't very picky with regards to port quality.

So how those X Mode work? It seems way harder to start a chain and I'm not quite sure how you do it, but once you do everything goes bananas.

I'd like to know as well!

I've been playing it for a few years but I just go with the flow. Usually start getting the magnified Five chips fairly quickly. I always use two buttons only and use the combination of shot and laser with the shot acting as my brake. I use the red canceling enemies as my islands. Seem like X-Mode is easier but it can actually be harder in certain areas...like the beginning section of Stage 4.

It's basically the same as arcade mode, except it's easier to activate the 5 chips and the meter drains slower/is easier to keep full. Destroying the pink enemies with lock-shot will also cancel all of the bullets on-screen into chips. The suicide bullets can be erased with the ship's laser during lock-shot. Just point-blank stuff until you start getting 5s, then hang back and destroy everything until the meter starts to drain, at which point you should point-blank something again or lock-shot a bullet canceler to keep the meter from fully draining.

Ketsui LE is the only thing I've ordered from Solaris so far. Haven't received it yet, but I was really impressed with their service so far. I asked them if they had any preorder discs left when I ordered (since I ordered post-release), and also put in a note with my order asking them to confirm if it would come with one of them before shipping. I got an email from them really rapidly telling me that it would come with the disc (and, in fact, was their last copy). Makes me feel good about having gone with them.

That's good to hear. I'll test out their service the next time some crazy Japan-only thing happens.

Speaking of Ketsui, I just got done watching the superplay Blu-ray, and it's freeking superb. The image quality is perfect, except for a little v-sync (h-sync?) issue which only seems to affect the background, which you can't even see by stage 2. I really want to see a Crimzon Clover superplay Blu-ray disc now. The future is here, use it motherfuckers!

There are exactly nobody on the leaderboards. Think that is a good enough sign as major bomb.

I didn't know it was coming out until someone said it in Twitter. I don't remember any sites actually mentioning it. There was like no PR for it. Not surprised it bombed.

Yeah,

Not seeing much love for it in the usual spots/boards/pick-up thread. A few here got it.

Pretty damn amazing set. I've been waiting for it for months with great anticipation. it is really cool having the game on a blu-ray, with the pretty XMB splash screen. Even have a new Hori stick arriving this week to play the game.

Not surprising then. 360 ver. has been out for ages, i was just hoping it was worthwhile for them to re-release it, but I doubt they made their money back :/

Ketsui PS3 bombed? How unexpected. All gaf experts seemed to agree that releasing their games on PS3 was the obvious solution for Cave's financial problems.

I did my part, my LE set is on it's way from AmiAmi. Didn't want to miss out on the preorder bonus for this one. Now here's the real kicker... I don't even own a PS3.
