Just surviving without credit-feeding is enough motivation for me... Game is hard!

And pretty damn awesome to boot. Especially certain modes with certain ships. :)

Also, my second summer order from VGI just arrived! :D

I was a bit LTTP with the Cave box and before I knew it, they were all gone.
So I was extremely lucky that the day I asked Lee about notifying me if a mint second hand copy came into the store, and it actually did just hours earlier even before he was able to put it up on the site. :)
Payed a bit more for it, but still nowhere the stupid prices they can go for on ebay.
Best of all, everything is still factory sealed. Only the two game boxes have been opened but there isn't a single mark on any of the discs or anything so it's practically brand new.

That big Cave box is gorgeous.

Add in that massive Ketsui set and that is so much shit!

I still have not seen my Cave box. Had to have it sent to California since at the time of release Tenso was having folks verify official addresses for some reason and would only ship to those :-(

But, I'll be home for Christmas to collect and check it out.

A bunch of Cave games are on sale in the App Store, should I get Bug Princess 2 or Bug Princess 2 Black Label?

Since they are both identical in presentation and everything else, I'd go for the first Bug Princess 2 if I had to choose one. Unless you like the BL version more.

lol, I'd have said BL, since I like BL more, that being said, I don't own an idevice so I don't know about the touch-ports. (just got DS on Android, I hope we'll get the rest on android eventually, especially DDPMaximum)

on another note, we didn't have much Cave shmups news in a while aside from dodonpatchin for ios...
I heard a rumor stating that Asada work at Microsoft Osaka now, is that true ? what is he supposed to do there on his own? are Ikeda and Yagawa still at Cave ?

Personally I like the original better. You get to choose between two shot types per character, "Normal" and "Abnormal" (each of which is actually a set of two shots), with a ton of variety between them, which adds a lot of replayability. Black Label only offers one set of shots per character, tweaked versions of each character's Normal shots from the original game. I miss the variety, and I also tend to prefer the Abnormal shots for each character in the original game.

The worst part about all this was that the order was intended to arrive just in time for my second 2 week summer vacation.
It actually did, according to the original plan, but then all of a sudden the people at work "lost" my vacation slip and thus I have to work next week. :(
Already put in another one so I'll be home the two weeks afterwards.
So I refuse to put in any other game besides EDF till my vacation actually starts. Gonna be a long week...

Well, that is good. I like how you make it an event~!

I kinda forgot about vacation here...since usually I'm told when I can take it but at my current location they don't do that. So, I've accrued thirty days in the last year. I've got the 17-26 of this month off. Probably gonna play a big RPG like Skyward or Skyrim or something.

I took a good two months off from the shooters and then logged a good week and 15 hours on Ketsui PS3 when that came out but now Pikmanz is occupying my time. Have not even picked up Dragon's Crown yet and then the new Mario RPG streets next week. Then non-stop big releases till December and 3D Mario Land. Cool shit like GTAV, Puppeteer, Tearaway and then a fuck-ton of 3DS/Wii U games. Not thinking I'm going to be getting much Cave Shooting in through the end of the year.

Hehe, I know how that feels.
I've been catching up with PS3 releases that I have missed out on since ignoring the system for over a year in favour of the 360.
Bought nearly 40 games in just over a month or so. :)
Haven't even been able to play half of them.
I'm also house hunting right now, so I have even less time to spend on gaming.
Hopefully that changes soon.

I always try to get a nice order in just in time for a big vacation like that.
Feels a bit like Christmas time when I was a kid. Not that I'd get this amount of games back then. ;)

finally got Ketsui LE with pre-order bonus. game is pretty hard, the leaderboards reflect that. but it's fun, and i've waited long enough to play it.

is it just me or is the boot sequence quite long?

Oh wow. I decided to rip the Ketsui Superplay bluray disc to mkv files since I don't have a region free player and wouldn't be able to view it otherwise.
It's the first bluray I rip and I think I might have gone overboard as I ended up with a 84GB folder of mkv files. :D

At least I know the quality will be spot on from the original. ;)

That 3 and a a half hour superplay by itself alone is nearly 43GB. lol
Perhaps now is a good time to rip that Iron Monkey bluray that I ordered and ended up being region A! :p

I coulda sworn that somebody on shmups confirmed the Superpaly BD was region-free.

Really? haha. Have to try it out tomorrow I guess. :)
Heard that it would be region A a while ago, but that might have been speculation more than anything else.
At least I'll be able to put it on my iPad now. Well after I small it down a bit.

Unlike DVD, Japan and North America share the same BD region code. I'm sure the confusion stemmed from that.
Yeah, that's my problem. With DVDs I had no problem importing Japanese ones since they had the same region as Europe.
With blurays, that's sadly isn't the case... I really should get a region free player one day as I love Asian films and many of them aren't released here.

Uh, considering the maximum capacity of a consumer-level BD disc is 50GB, something's seriously off with your processing chain. You should just be able to literally place the original bitstream into an MKV container completely unaltered; no transcoding should be necessary unless you're trying to make smaller files than the original.

Someone on Shmups stated the disc was region free, long after this was pointed out.

I'm a bit new to all that stuff, so I probably messed something up along the way.
I'm using MakeMKV on a Mac btw and just used the default settings. Was a bit surprised that it was larger than 50GB myself.

So far I've been ripping my rare classic Hong Kong kung Fu DVDs, which turn out to be rather large as well. Oh and my married with children box set. Since I found out a couple of my Saturn games are starting to show CD rot and I would hate to see all my movies follow suit. My near complete collection of Hong Kong Legends will be next. :)

I had trouble ripping the Blu with MakeMKV, never mind though.

Not sure if it's just me but I think the superplay looks better than the actual game.

I've ordered a neo geo usb pad to play this on the ps3.

In the meantime I am preparing by playing my ketsui PCB on my supergun with a neo geo cd pad ... wait what am I doing.

Not actually that important
Do you guys think a best version of Ketsui PS3 will come out? Where's the cheaper I can get a "vanilla" sku delivered to mainland EU?

It never happened with the 360 version. I doubt it'll happen here.

Amiami seems to be sold out - I assume they didn't bother getting a large allocation and are uninterested in replenishing. It's also the first released game I've ever searched for on Amazon.co.jp to find there are absolutely no customer reviews whatsoever. People really aren't buying this thing at all.

Never say never.

This absolute sales disaster got a "Best" release...after an already slow 360 release. Then icing on the cake was that it got even localized.

Stellar game, though. Just like Ketsui.

So no chance of buying it unless I go eBay? Booooo... :(
What game is that YB? Always bet on G.Rev (gotta buy Strania's DLC one of these days damn)

Game bombed, not a chance.

Plenty of über bombs have seen TB prints in the past, you're maybe confusing it with GH reprints.

snagged a Fever S.O.S. (dangun feveron international) pcb off of the shmups forums to add to my growing PCB collection, and pretty excited to finally get my hands on it. I've actually had minimal experience with the game, but I know I'm going to love it. Gonna post some pics once I get it up and running :)

I love it for one of the reasons I love Ketsui, it kind of makes you play crazy. Plus everything else about it is ridiculous. I should try it again soon sometime, haven't played much other than SDOJ/360 since upgrading my cab's sound setup.

I think I'm really going to like it - especially seeing that you're comparing it to Ketsui.
I've only sunk about 10 minutes into the MAME rom but it's something I wanted along with ESP Ra.De.

worst case scenario is I don't like it and I sell it for exactly what I bought it for.

Quick question: did all Ketsui preorders come with a bonus or just the LE? I preordered the regular version and just got the game...

Well the main thing to keep in mind is how the scoring works, the base value of enemies is...1 point. Each disco guy raises that value +1 (and resets per stage iirc), but if you miss a guy (they bounce off the bottom and go off the top) it resets back to 1 point. Bombing freezes the disco guys on screen and iirc speeds you up momentarily, so other than survival it's for saving your score as well.

And there's two little secrets! One is a Uo Poko ship which is faster than the fastest normal ship speed, and can switch the shot spread on the fly, but has no bombs. The other is a separate time attack stage that's not in the main game. I forget how to get each one but some quick googling should find it.

I didn't know the differences until it was too late! Thought they were special versions. I already owned EspII HD and SD before the sale lol

At least I got some good looking icons XD

Truth. I've actually considered grabbing them for the icons. And the simple fact that I love the iOS versions so much I don't mind giving them a few more dollars. Espgaluda II is still the best port of all the games. You can never have too much of it on your phone.

They have separate Game Center achievements right? That would be another good reason...I guess....

Yea, have that too but deleted that off my phone since I have HD too.

Damn. I think I would have fell for the same trap! So HD has both SP (Smartphone Version) and AC (Arcade Version) modes included from what I'm reading?

Yes, if not specifically mentioned, it includes both. The split SP and AC releases came afterward, presumably meant as a lower cost option for people who only wanted one mode or the other.
