received my Fever S.O.S board today and it's insanely fun. I actually look forward to my future 1CC attempts :)

Found the stuff I mentioned earlier, give them a try!

With a code you can unlock a secret ship: the cat from Uo Poko, Cave's arcade puzzle game from the same year as Dangun Feveron. At the title screen, hit Down, Up, Right, Left, Up, Down, Left, Right. You'll hear a sound if you did it right, so hit start. You should know what you're getting into, though... this ship is faster than the maximum speed of the other ships, and you have no bomb or special shot. Instead, the bomb button will switch between the three types of spread shot. You might not miss the bomb or special shots much since the cat shoots extra powerful, erm... squids? However, with no way to freeze the cyborgs you'll have to rely on that extra speed to catch any that get away. One last thing, the Uo Poko cat is NOISY. He will meow every single time you hit a direction on the stick. This can get extremely annoying. The meowing also cuts off the announcer mid-sentence. How much nuttier can this game get?
(I never found it that annoying...and that's with the occasional double play, it just fit in the ridiculousness of the game for me I guess)
An article on Dangun Feveron wouldn't be complete without mentioning the excellent time attack mode. It isn't exactly a secret, since it is mentioned during the attract sequence, but it might still be easy to look over. Just hold shot and bomb before you hit start to play a time attack game. You have unlimited lives, and three minutes to get the highest score. Unlike the rest of the game, this stage takes place on land, and there are a few other differences. Mainly, you want to be looking out for yellow posts in the ground... if you move over these, they will stand up and can then be destroyed. They will add 5 to your count and are also worth five successive kills. Time attack is another thing you won't find in most Cave games, but it really should be more common, if Dangun Feveron's is any indication. When the main game is giving you grief, this mode is a nice way to take a load off. It's still frantic but lots of fun.

Tried both. Score attack is awesome, but I'm not sure I can handle uo poko. If therr wasn't a sound eith evety movement it might be easier to handle. But it's definitely funny.

I briefly enjoyed the PS2 port, but I wanted to actually play the game and get good at it. Being such a huge fan of armed police batrider and battle garegga, I thought the deal was too hard to pass up :)

I own a Ibara PCB and i'm definitely locked in an abusive relationship with it. No matter how much I play, it just keeps kicking my ass, I get mad and store it away - only to put it back in my cab a few weeks later.

I'm a huge fan of Garegga - probably my favorite board of all time. But something about Ibara just rubs me the wrong way. I've actually tried to sell it a few times, but it just won't leave. :p

BTW - I'm working on a deal right now for Batrider - the PCB I purchased was busted and I had to return it - finally found another seller willing to part with it for a fair price. Hopefully it works out!

Congrats on your recent pickups!

thanks~!

and that's unfortunate about your APB board. I actually spent about 3 weeks straight playing it (every day) until I got fed up with advanced mode. Unfortunately, I only own the saturn version of battle garegga - not the board (pretty expensive), but I'm looking forward to my future addiction of ibara too.

ibara full kit on the way

this has become an obsession -_-

You threading are on a slippery slope there and I know it :)

Did you find that original Feveron art of did you print the stuff from the link ?
If you found original art congrats, it's pretty hard to find nowadays and pricey .

slippery slope indeed. I want bakraid and esp ra.de. badly but I keep telling myself I won't purchase another PCB unless I sell one of the ones I own.

I was going to print out the feveron art myself, but I had two people messaging me regarding copies which they were willing to ship for the price of shipping alone which I gladly took 'em up on the offer. I knew finding original art would be a longshot. Might have to print my own progear art tho :>

I also made a connection for ESD protective ULine boxes as one of the shmups users is going to buy in bulk and sell me a couple. I think part of the addiction is how great and convenient of a resource the shmups b/s/t forum is.

I asked in the arcade stick thread but didn't get any replies. So I was modding a Madcatz Fightstick SE to put in Seimitsu buttons and an LS-32, but a few of the screws broke off in the stick harness and I don't think there's any way to remove them. Nothing I've tried has worked. I think my only option is to get a new stick to mod.

What's cheap and easy to mod for the 360? I'd prefer not to get another Madcatz stick unless the harness screw holes are threaded, because that seems like the culprit for them breaking on me.

I had an extremely easy time modding my VX-SA with an LS-56-01 and PS-14-KN buttons. Probably took me 20-30 minutes total. $130 isn't necessarily cheap though..

I bought 20 of them in 2009, they are perfect for PCB's .

Nice thing is that you can store the art under the anti static foam :

One of the worst decisions IMHO, Deathsmiles is one of my favorite Cave games.

I really enjoy Deathsmiles, also one of my favorite shmups. I don't see the characters as sexualized.

I received Muchi Muchi/Pink Sweets 360, but haven't had a chance to play them yet. Neither of those games seem to have any ill will intended with their themes IMO.

best gaming bundle pack ever. I still haven't 1CCed MMP nor PS arrange which is on my current "to do" list.

Oof. Yeah, I'm hoping not to spend $130, since I already dropped $60 on parts. Thanks for the heads up, though. The VX-SA is a nice looking stick. Is there any difference between the regular model and the KAI?

welp, the KAI wasn't available when I first bought the VX-SA, but I believe the spacing between the stick and the buttons is a little bit further apart on the revision (which is excellent imo). I don't like how the art looks compared to the original, but you can always change that :)

Aside from being advertised as "loli", which is a sexualizing term in and of itself, it shipped a "BDSM edition" that included lingerie with a game character on it, official art (including the game's cover) features characters in sexualized poses and flashing panties, etc.

I'm not being down on you for liking the game if you do, but I don't think there's a reasonable interpretation of the characters as anything but sexualized.

The BDSM edition doesn't exist. It was an April Fools prank by Aksys (so, like the "loli" marketing, it can't be used to gauge creator intent, as Aksys was only a licensee).

Aksys's marketing is 100% based on the way the characters were already depicted. They weren't inventing anything, they just ran with it.

Except what you consider overtly sexual doesn't come across that way in the culture that created the content. Nothing in what you linked seems particularly questionable to me, and this is all promotional materials that passed the all-ages censors in Japan. Your personal feelings are one thing, but you can't assume your sensibilities are going to be quite the same as those of a foreign country, then vilify their work based on that.

And this is beside the point that you're denying yourself of experiencing arguably one of Cave's finest works just because you don't agree with the art direction.

I love DoDonPachi SDOJ.

This game is just killer. The simple scoring system is fantastic and it is great that the chaining isn't as brutal as in DOJ. In DOJ every run is just doing Stage 1 over and over again if you're not good enough.

I also like how brutally difficult SDOJ is. It makes me appreciate the game and I like how my runs aren't stupidly long struggling with auto-bombs as they were in DFK. Every credit in SDOJ is an adrenaline rush.

The soundtrack is also fantastic, gets me pumped. Stage 5 in particular is fantastic.

The presentation is also super flashy and the game is really colourful.

What can I say. Definitely one of my favorite Cave games.

Also add me on XBL I wanna have some people on my leaderboards: hipgnosis50

played a few rounds and forgot how much I love but hate this game. It's frustratingly awesome. the only issue I'm having is with my supergun... I receive coin errors when trying to "feed credits" so I have to throw it in free play mode.

I know it's an issue with my gun and not the board, but arghhhhhhhhh

Awesome kit right there .

I died so many freaking times on that game, even on the first level I started to doubt myself but now I just love it .
Managing rank and bomb the shit out of everything containing medals and keep bombing is key for me .

It's the most Raizing of all the Yagawa CAVE games .

Even when playing it for the first time, you could swear it was a sequel to battle garegga if it weren't for all the lollis.

And speaking of the lollis.. I actually never noticed the panty and breast shots at the end of the levels too.. busted out laughing the first time I saw it yesterday.

I think MMP is meant to be funny, with its plumpy pig girls and goofy enemies, but Ibara and Pink Sweets are 100% about being sexy. In PS they even removed the 2 male pilots and it's just girls girls girls. Not that I'm complaining, as the art is excellent.

Yeah,

Ibara and Pink Sweets are all about being sexy with all the frenchy outfits and flowers. Cave's sexiest game series for sure...and a big reason I'm obsessed with it (even though I don't play them too often). Whereas Princess Reco is all about a sexy character...the sexiest.

Pure art style its original Mushi for me .

I keep putting it back in the cab and a strong favorite for friends who like to play but are not obsessive into Shmups , they all love the game and setting whereas the newer ones like DFK, AK or Sdoj are to hectic and bores them pretty fast :(

pure art style I'd go with Ketsui (**runs away**), Progear, or Ibara. I really like military-esque influenced enemies and industrial backgrounds. Progear's steampunk style would probably be my favorite tho.

but I also agree that the mushi series as a whole (both original and futari) are favorites among non-shmupper friends.

one of the worst art styles would probably have to go to dangun feveron, although the game is awesome.

I was browsing AmiAmi and noticed that theres two listings for the regular version of Dodonpachi Saidaioujou. Is the one with the exclusive bookstore card the cheapest I can get it? Still wondering since I might be able to squeeze getting the game in my budget.

Yeah, looks like it. Their version with the card is cheaper at the moment. Same game. That does come with a pretty hot card (best character and best outfit!).

Just my luck, when I woke up today, its now sold-out. Guess I'll have to wait again before I can buy the game. Play-Asia is still too expensive and my local customs are going to put a hefty tax on it. Oh well, I can wait, but its going to be even more troublesome if I get it by the holidays.

Well, that sucks.

Because of you I ordered a copy...to put in my Cave Box. I'm guessing we might be nearing a "Best of" port soon. Might want to wait. Still that will be 3000-4000.

STGWeekly covered Deathsmiles last week, it's a very informative watch and I highly recommend it to those who have had this game for a while but not fully understand how the scoring system works.

Bookmarked. For when I've got two hours. I've never really gotten into the game and really understood how it plays but this should help!

Still taking another few weeks break for shooters (except my Mii Force), but I'll be back in the saddle in October.
