A guide has already been mentioned but really this is the kind of game where your best bet is to play it over and over again until you get your own groove. If you try to mimic what goes on in the average video you'll eat bullets like candy.

Oh yeah, for sure. I agree with what you're saying, I just don't understand the systems behind Espgaluda II. The shielding system with the slowdown mode, auto-fire and multiple counters.. I always heard it was one of Cave's easier games but there it feels like there's more to it than usual as well.

Oh yeah, that's a good point. Can anyone confirm that we can't use American credit cards with a Japanese Live account?

No, you cannot use US CC on the Japanese Marketplace. However you can easily find Japanese 1400 MS points cards for around US$ 27 (and the code can be e-mailed for instant access).

And DS BL is totally worth against the US release.

Espgaluda is quite easy but Espgaluda 2 is hard as fuck, especially if you play for score. IMHO you should play with kakusei only, you'll score less but the game becomes much easier. Then, when you'll be more confident, start using zetsushikai.

Basically... I have the same opinion each time Cave releases a new one.

I WANT I WANT I WANT. JUST HOOK IT UP DIRECTLY TO MY VEINS!

So what are the differences between DoDon that came out before and Ressurection?

Does this mean that we won't ever see the patch for the first game?

The patch for DOJ is ready and should be out soon, Daifukkatsu is a whole new game.

360 version looks sweet, can't wait to try the game. And oh, trailer music :lol :lol Cave never cease to amaze me

I did not like the real standard edition cover. The mock-up looked better IMO. Anyway I will go with the collector's edition anyway. And it is acually the first time I found the cover of a Cave Colllector's Edition better than the standard cover.

Dodonpachi Daioujou is a separate game from Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu/Ressurection. It's never seen an international release, not even by a US arcade distributor, to my knowledge.

Daioujou has been ported to PS2 and Xbox 360. Patch incoming this year very soon.

Just saw the trailer for the 360 port... Looks awesome of course, but what the hell is up with that song :lol :lol

That does not fit Dodonpachi... at all.

That's the DDP image song. It's on the daifukkatsu OST and it's awesome! :lol

Daioujou is pretty much CAVEs most hardcore and unforgiving game, from a company known for hardcore and unforgiving games. Dropped your combo? Say bye to your score. Got to the second loop? The game removes all but one of your lives. You literally cannot continue once you reach stage 5 in the 2nd loop, making it even more difficult to practice. After a year of release less than 10 people in Japan had killed hibachi, and nobody to this day has cleared the arcade version in NA. The cabinets come with hara-kiri swords in case you drop your combo and need to IRL suicide to retain your honor as a hardcore gamer.

Ok, that last bit was made up, but you get the idea. Here's a youtube of the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtFkpldJSpY

Black label version.. isn't as sadistic with removing your lives, but makes the 2nd loop harder to compensate.

I got my J360 so I can play Ketsui.

Day one had me struggling to even hit Stage 4. Juicy! The game seems to have a good range of bullet speeds, and the dead zone for enemies seems kinda smaller than normal. Very fun.

Figured this would be the place to ask...

Does anyone know the cheapest place I could get a J360? I know of the main sites used for importing (PA, NCSX, Yesasia) but all of those seem pretty expensive. So far I've checked HMV.co.jp and they seem to be the cheapest but I have a feeling that once the shipping is added in the price is going to jump, because I doubt they'd ship a boxed console from Japan to the US by EMS for like $20 in yen. Seems like the price they're giving me is an estimate and I can't get any further info until I pay for it.

I've also considered ordering from Amazon and using a middleman but I'd like to keep it simple, though if the price difference is enough I'd do it.

You're pretty much screwed. If you live in the US, ncsx is probably cheapest after shipping.

Well, shit. I guess this is the part where I start to feel buyer's remorse for impulse buying a Ketsui LE even knowing that I couldn't play it until I got a J360. :lol It was cheap ;_;

Time to start saving up some more!

Fuckin' mailman needs to hurry up and deliver Daioujou to me. I bought it since the patch is out this month, and the price is only going up from here.

I credit fed through the game once in 2006 and I liked it... so it'll be interesting to actually play it like I'm not a bitch.

Anyway, Cave shmups are all I've played since law school started. I'm able to get to the end of stage 4 in Ketsui now, so I'm feeling pretty good about that, seeing as how I haven't really dedicated myself to any shmups before recently.

Yeah you're going to need to drop a lot of cash on a J360. I got "lucky" and got a used one for $100, but lo and behold it broke within a month. Even after I pay to get it repaired it's still not too bad of a deal I suppose. I should get it fixed soon, I miss Ketsui.

I've been keeping busy with Mushi Futari though so it's not so bad. I just need to 1CC 1.5 Original with Reco and get 100,000 counter in Black Label Original, then I'll be focusing solely on Maniac.

too many shooters.

Day 2 with Ketsui sees me beating the Stage 4 midboss. I can see why this game is regarded so highly by great players. It's clicking with me stronger than Mushi or Espgaluda II have.

poor Batrider, I threw that on hold.

I could easily see Ketsui becoming my favorite Cave game after I put more time into it. The bullet patterns of all of the bosses and midbosses are creative and awesome, the scoring system is great, it has Cave's best soundtrack, it's completely devoid of moe, and best of all there's very little bullet canceling. I don't mind bullet canceling when it's used sparingly, but Cave has gone overboard with it in their more recent games.

Yeah, I really love Ketsui myself. The aesthetics are literally perfect, and the gameplay is just so incredibly satisfying... both because the bullet patterns and enemy placements are spot-on, and because the lock-shot makes you feel so powerful.

Maybe by the time you save up, they'll be selling the cheaper 4gb slim. Then just add a usb stick and you're good to go.

Um yeah.. if you can't 1cc the game or chain worth a crap, all you really have to worry about are the load times, which are nonexistent once you're at the attract screen.

So what's the difference between a cave shooter and a shmup?

Shmup is a lame nickname given to horizontal and vertical scrolling shooters. Cave is a company that makes both hori and vert shooters, usually of the danmaku/bullet hell variety.

Call them 2D shooter, hori/vert shooter, STG, whatever. Try not to call them shmups. :\

I used PA for my first two, but for my third (current) I got it from a friend in Hong Kong. He shipped it without the cables/controller as I had those and it was a lot cheaper than any importer. PM me if you would like his details, I'm sure he'd be happy to help :)

Schmup is also acceptable.

Its about as acceptable as people using the made up word 'Addicting' when 'Addictive' is what they should be saying. There's no C in shoot em up.

Holy shit you know what nobody has ever said the word "addicting" to my face yet but they are getting some good old fashioned punching as soon as they do.

I just found a used Japanese Xbox 360 on Amazon Marketplace for $140 and I impulse bought it. Guess I'm going to need to order Ketsui or something eh?

Go all the way and get Ketsui, DDP Daioujou, and arcade accurate Deathsmiles.

By the way, I think most of the dumping on the 360 daioujou port is unwarranted. Unless you can 2 loop the game or you're a chaining master, you're not even going to be able to tell where the arcade inaccuracies are. The load times suck but once you get to the actual attract screen there aren't any more load times. It's the same issue with complaints about NA Deathsmiles.. yeah it's arcade inaccurate, but unless you're a god at shooting games (which almost nobody in NA is), you're not going to notice a difference. Just buy the games and enjoy them.

The others will follow soon! I found Ketsui for $65 new, so I jumped on that one first. I think I'll probably get a copy of DDP Daioujou next because I've wanted to play that game for a long damn time. Now hopefully the stuff gets here before my time off work...
