Posted in the pickup thread, I finally got around to rigging my DS 2 stick. Came out pretty good, but my fave Cave/Hori stick still remains that glorious green Mushi stick from late last year.

i can't stop thinking about Ketsui.

I haven't felt this way since Espgaluda. I'm in loooove~

I started getting comfortable with stage 1 chaining. It's so balls-out. Riding between the building turret's double lines, getting right up in the large ship 8-way spreads, even just sweeping the tanks is great. And I still have to back off in some areas. Stage 2 is way less comfy for me, though; I'll sometimes lose a life just doing stupidly risky things, sometimes even before the midboss.

I'm pretty consistent with getting the first extend in stage 3 as well as the pickup 1up. And beating the stage 3 boss with no bombs is sogood.gif. Still get tense and occasionally mess up on the second boss, though I'm getting used to the suitcase bomb spreads on the sides.

i want to not be at work at the moment. i want to be reaching stage 5.

Those are the LE Seimitsu colors, right? Nice.

I think the buttons are just standard fair now. There are some other new colors, like forest green as well. What is different is the form and shape...much lower profile underneath but they have the same flat shape of EX-SE buttons. I've not had much time to follow the arcade stuff for this year so maybe Seimitsu changed how they make them. The blacks on the stick above are the more convex versions.

standard cover is awful :/ but i'll probably get that anyways. ncsx doesn't charge until it ships right?

Yeah, the cover for the standard edition sucks. I'd rather get the LE, but Cave's LEs are never worth the additional cost so I guess I'll stick with the lame box art.

Going with AmiAmi again for DDP, even though they sold out of the LE in the blink of an eye :(. May change my mind if I can get the LE off of NCSX though.

I'll agree, Ketsui is pretty badass, at least from what little I got to play at Otakon. I'll try to snag that when I'm a little less broke.

Go all the way and get Ketsui, DDP Daioujou, and arcade accurate Deathsmiles.

By the way, I think most of the dumping on the 360 daioujou port is unwarranted. Unless you can 2 loop the game or you're a chaining master, you're not even going to be able to tell where the arcade inaccuracies are. The load times suck but once you get to the actual attract screen there aren't any more load times. It's the same issue with complaints about NA Deathsmiles.. yeah it's arcade inaccurate, but unless you're a god at shooting games (which almost nobody in NA is), you're not going to notice a difference. Just buy the games and enjoy them.

I've always wanted it and I'm very curious what the patch will do for the game.

I almost sold off my J-360 since everything was going region free but I will keep it for Ketsui and Daioujou.

Play-asia still lists the LE as up for preorder. I'd wait for NCS, though.

Patch will improve load times, menus, and fix arcade inaccuracy bugs, which again you won't notice unless you are already really damn good at the game. Unless you're a shoot em up god, it's going to take you months of part-time-job level hours of practice just to reach the second loop.. not even factoring in how insanely strict the chaining system is. Stage 1-3 onward will annihilate anyone not experienced with cave shoot em ups. I'm pretty sure nobody in North America has killed hibachi on either the original daioujou or black label daioujou.

i wonder if it'll have 1.01 and/or black label on disc. i have neither of those yet and buying that would probably be cheaper if it has both.

The Deathsmiles Platinum was fully loaded on disc and had a much cuter cover too boot.

The price is nice on this Mushi so if it has the DLC on disc it might be worth a double-dip.

Well, my Xbox & Ketsui arrived. I excited rearranged my shit to hook up the Japanese Xbox, downloaded all the Xbox updates, and went to boot up Ketsui...

The "Japanese" Xbox isn't Japanese at all. Thanks guy from Amazon.com marketplace! I contacted him and he said that "it was a good deal anyway" and I should "just try to resell it" myself. Now I wait for a refund with a copy of Ketsui I can't use, and no funds to buy another Xbox. This blows.

It's one thing to mistakenly think you have a Japanese console, but I bet the guy knew what he had, and pocketed your money anyway. Give that douche some negative feedback if you haven't already. Leave a comment that that lying sack of flesh is not to be trusted and to be wary when buying anything from him. Should help others from trusting his word and thus hitting his sales.

Also see if you qualify for Amazon's A-to-Z Guarantee Protection

I feel for you dude. Hope retribution prevails. That's simply inexcusable what he did.

Leave him negative rep, do an A to Z refund. Amazon gives no lean way to sellers at all.

Chargeback the shit if it doesn't work, either way the seller will be eating dirt.

I filed a claim and he e-mailed me minutes later to say "I see you filed a claim, we will take care of it from here." I'm excited to see what comes of this!

Yeah, i'm just going for the LE for continuity in my collection...thinking it will come in a box. Don't give a damn about the soundtrack. And I skipped the EspGaluda LE cause I didn't want that silly faceplate and region-lock. I'm prolly in the minority but I dig the SE cover much, much more for Daifukkatsu.

Wonder if the iPhone arrange Music will be available on this release? I now play all modes on the iPhone with it.

Damnit, I need a stick announcement to make this release truly an event!

i'd be more tempted by the LE if it had the dfk black label ost. don't really care for the vanilla dfk ost except longhena cantata
and dodonpachi dai-ondo

Was gonna pre-order DDP, and noticed LE for DS IIX was on sale, so I added that to the order...
I also pay the $40 more only because of the LE cover :x I told myself I wouldn't do it again, after Mushi... But I just couldn't hold myself...
Only those two will cost me around as much as the other 9 games I'm getting this Fall D:

I also need to start looking for a Japanese 360 Slim now... Since Cave gave up on making their games region free...

Any ideas on when any of these will be released in Europe, or at least which of these titles are region-free?

I've been wanting to pick up a 360 to play Deathsmiles (and some other shooters) for a while now, but I'm not confident enough to buy a US/JAP 360 from overseas in fear of it crapping out on me and having to go through too much trouble to get it fixed/replaced eventually.

I really can't tell with DSII. I'm curious about it, but it's looking like I won't be playing it any time soon.

Too much to play as it is, though! Especially with DFK and the two-pack (which I'm honestly more excited for) down the line.

If anything comes out over here, I'd think it would first be Deathsmiles 2, don't you think? Aksys kinda layed the groundwork, unless the first one totally failed to meet their expectations. I love DS2...probably just as much as the first. It is awesome the way it is 16:9. And it has the arcade version on there as well, plus an extra little puzzle game, and a few other modes. Packed release and I don't know why folks gripe about it. Graphics are great, the 3D stuff.

Tain, don't forget about Guwange!!

I wouldn't hold my breath. If you want a 360 mainly to play Cave's games, a Japanese 360 is absolutely the way to go. You'll have access to every one of their ports as soon as they become available, along with all of the other shooters on the console.

Plus, the Japanese version of Death Smiles is much better.

i wouldn't count on anything, especially in europe.

iirc, some people on the shmups forum in europe have had their imported j360 replaced by ms europe with a japanese unit. just make sure they know it's a japanese unit. though with a slim it shouldn't be a problem unless it's broken out of the box.

also if you decide to import one go for an asian (not japanese, but still ntsc-j) unit so the psu will work in europe.

DSII isn't bad but IMHO is a sub-par effort for Cave. The scoring system is good and some of the patterns are quite fun, plus it comes with a lot of extras. But aside from that, graphics are horrible and totally uninspired (fighting chess pieces? really? looks like they picked the most simple objects to render and used them as enemies - I was suprised I didn't find the 3d studio teapot), some levels are boring and the last stage was pretty disappointing. DS' last stage was a rollercoaster, DSII's last stage is dull (to say the least). It's not a bad game, but not worth full price and the last to pick up among Cave 360 ports.

Man, the wackiness is what makes that game cool! Especially that tall-man walking boss who freaks out and shoves his head into the screen. I dunno, guess it reminds me of old 16-bit shooters, in a way. Where anything went. But I like Otomedius too, so, grain of salt and all that :lol

I like DSIIX more than DS now. Arcade mode is super fun, X360 mode is fun with really awesome graphics, the music is great, and there's even a free puzzle/platform game tossed in. I play it more than any other Cave port except Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 (and I own every Cave port).

Yeah, been playing it for the better part of the last month...gets so pretty when you pick level 3 and all the pink, blue, and yellow bullets fill the screen. Music is definitely better on the sequel.

I put in Ketsui and Espgaluda but I always switch back to DS2. Only played the first one for 5-10 hours last year but I've put way more time into IIX.

I could never "get" DS2. For me it has worst graphics, settings and gameplay than the original DS. I have played a lot from both titles, and I can always go back to DS for a fun run, but not to DS2. And I agree that they choosed to most simple designs for the enemies.

Have to agree that DSII is a sub-par game compared to Cave's best. Very repetitive, boring, uninspired.. and the levels are strangely long for some reason. And yeah, it's ugly on top of that.

Holy shit! This is awesome news! Hope it will be the more arcade accurate version.
