The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

One more week to go till the big XBLA Guwange release! This is my my most anticipated title for the fall...even eclipsing things like Kirby Epic Yarn and Cave's own DoDonPachi R. Lookin' forwards to the leaderboards! Hopefully Cave sees good worldwide download numbers similar to the iPhone games.

Yeah, really looking forward to it as well, had my points ready for a while :)

I would love to see Mushi and Ibara emulated. They look like crap on PS2 and they run like crap on PCSX2.

For sure.

Hell, sadly enough, emulated Ketsui will look better than 360 Ketsui.

Just saw on Shmups that Mushi Bug Panic goes up on Nov 18 for $4. Excite!

And, the two Daifukkatsu Premium themes and gamerpics are now a available for 240 and 160 points respectively.

Went for the Premium Theme 1 with the robot boss chicks. The downloaded gamerpics are not showing up in my profile...not sure if something is wrong with the file or I'm just stupid.

Sweet! Time to change my Mushi theme :D
That is what I finally did as well. DS->Mushi->Daifukkatsu! Something to get excited about a few weeks before Nov 25.

If you get some gamerpics and get them working let me know what you did. I bought the pack with the bees but can't load them. Gotta have a bee up there!

I want that theme, only without the girls.

Is that basically what the theme that was pictured in the Guwange thread is?

I would actually buy that second theme, which is something I thought I'd never say. But my J-XBL account only has 200 points left in it. I'm never going to find anything to spend that remaining credit on. Ugggh.

I don't mean to bump this thread without any real news (DAI-FUKKATSU THIS MONTH OMG) but I'm having a problem with my Japanese 360 and I figure someone here would have some advice.

I just bought a second Xbox Live point card from Play Asia.
http://www.play-asia.com/Xbox_Live_Points_1400_points/paOS-13-71-es-49-en-70-3y5k.html
The code arrived immediately but It's just not working. Code Not Valid.

I'm entering it into the same Japanese Xbox Live account that I used a month ago, on the same console. I'm 100% positive that I'm entering the code correctly.

I've already contacted Play Asia but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Is this sort of thing common? Is there any chance I'll either get a refund or a replacement card? Is there a better place to order these cards from? Should I stick with a physical card instead of the digital version? Question?

Sounds like you've gotta wait for PA's response...probably tomorrow morning when they open back up.

Other than that, if there are any zeros and Os then try switching them for each other. And make sure everything is caps.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
B vs. 8 is also kind of a tough one. I've had issues entering those codes before, and I'm not even that dumb.

Anyway, I should really hurry up and preorder Daifukkatsu. I think I'm just gonna nextday it from NCSX. I want that 1.51 DLC card.

So with Mushihimesama Futari, am I just gonna have to scour Ebay for a 1.01 card? Because I want it, but I'm not sure if I can simply buy it from the marketplace...

You can't buy it from the marketplace, and it's not really worth looking for it on ebay. 1.01 is nowhere nearly as fun as 1.5 or black label. It's like buying a Starcraft 2 beta key when S2 has already been released.

Soooo, about that Dai Ou Jou patch... I guess it's not coming after all? It's been ages now and the sequel is about to be released.

Yeah, but it's just knowing that I don't have it that's gonna bother me. Regardless of how irrational it might be to be bothered by that.

And as far as the Dodonpatch... man, I really do wonder what happened to that. The one thing that I really hoped that thing would fix is the shitty filter you can't turn off that makes the game look blurry... but who knows if we'll ever even get that damn thing.

I regret buying it now. I kept reading THE PATCH IS ALMOST DONE and made the mistake of thinking it was true.

I can't play a shooter with those load times, to say nothing of its other problems.

Once you get to the attract screen, there are no load times.
There are only bugs with the original (non black label) version. The BL version is just fine and if you want the original you can get the PS2 version. Furthermore, unless you're a chaining god that can 1cc the game, you won't even notice it.
You're probably just avoiding it because it kicks your butt.

They are for sale on yahoo japan. Gonna have to jump through a few hoops to get it though.

A couple of interesting news from Cave:

- A new version of Akai Katana, called "Red Label", is going to be released. But, strange enough, it won't be an arcade release, it will be a PCB for home collectors only. It will have a stage select feature, mandatory free play (thus rendering the PCB useless for arcade owners) and some tweaks to the scoring system. While it's interesting to see Cave showing attention to home users, it's puzzling how they decided to change the game's balance, so that it won't be possible to compare scores with arcade users. What's the point of buying a PCB, then? more likely, they just want to milk as much yens as possible from crazy collectors.

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/11/09/akai_katana_general_purchase/

- The infamous DOJ patch is 100% ready, but it's currently in the hands of Microsoft and it's impossible to say when it'll be released. You can read all the details on Cave-STG (yes, it's online again).

Daifukkatsu is out next week, isn't it? Have they ever announced if Black Label was being made available for DLC?

I have no idea what the differences are, but while the vanilla OST is kinda lousy, the Black Label soundtrack is amazing.

I guess. All I know is that the load times whenever I switch to certain modes are ridiculous. And with my newish J360, I have lots of competently-coded shooters to play instead.

For what it's worth, I already have the PS2 version.

Boy, those DOJ patch notes sure don't make it sound like the bugs are only confined to BL...

The load times are a pain but the menus alone are reason enough not to play the game. I don't think I've used any software in the last decade that has a GUI as confusing as DOJ-EX's. It's simultaneously insulting and hilarious.

Also hasn't the patch been in "Microsoft's hands" a few times now? And it was rejected each time? God I hope that doesn't happen again.

FWIW, Mushi Bug Panic is up on iTunes. Save a dollar by buying it before Sunday night.

Get a chance to play it yet? Thinking about picking it up to play on the iPad.

Apparently (from what I've read on the Shmups forum) it won't work on the iPad until iOS 4.2 is out :(. I bought it anyway for the launch price.

I'm in the processing of updating my phone to 4.1 but my internet keeps timing out. Ugh. So no impressions.

You need 4.1 for this game apparently.

Once again, Cave pushes the iPhone hardware (and software) to the limit! :lol

I'm kinda torn on DOJ BL. I wouldn't mind owning it, but the only real reason for me to buy it is to be able to use my TE sticks with it rather than the Hori T5 PS2 sticks.

EOJ's review of Deathsmiles IIX has me considering the port. I'd probably rather just have the x86 executable somehow though. :x

X-Mode is definitely fun...unlocks at five hours of play. There is also a quite extensive and nifty art gallery with tons and tons of scans. Fun to own for the collectors.

Buy, yeah, the great PS2 release is probably enough.

Yeah, I was just reading that too. I never got around to buying it. I know the game may look better in person but all the videos I saw made the game look incredibly low-rent. I'm usually a pretty accepting guy but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $80+ on an iffy port of such a homely game. I was also holding out for the slim chance of it getting a US release but I just can't imagine that happening now...Maybe I'll buy it for Christmas.

Not gonna buy Bug Panic. It looks very iPhone. Screw you, virtual dpads!

Good find!

Kinda cool to see the games running on a Vewlix. Wonder how they look running on that cabinet?

Oh yeah, Bug Panic is pretty fun. A bit clunky with the touch but a good amount of Mushi fan service...little comic-book style cut scenes with fun art.

The only note I can see that's vaguely related is "Bees would randomly disappear on screen". It doesn't say what mode that applies to, although I've never seen a bee disappear in BL mode.

Thanks for the eurogamer article link.

Yay! A few more days till the next big Cave release. Eager to here early impressions from those who get it this week...pics of the actual LE packaging too if you get it!

(good news that the DOJ is finally almost here...great month for Cave titles)

Nice, looks like I need to buy a Japanese points card.

Got my copy pre-ordered from NCSX. Hopefully they ship it soon; I live very close to them, so shipping is always super fast.

So DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu is being released tomorrow, where's the hype? :D

I'm only half-hyped because we've been spoiled with so many CAVE releases over the last year that I feel like I've only started to explore & there are so many other games out right now too. Will definitely be ordering this when I get my next paycheck though.

Fuck yeah on Black Label news! Gotta get me some more points!

No hype because it is J-360. Importers are not going to get it till later next week, sadly. I'll hopefully be in the leaderboards next week as I've gotta wait for it to ship to europe from NCS. They are planning on shipping friday morning if all goes well.

And I'll say what I always say: a real shame there is no official themed stick release for this one.

Amazon Japan is shipping the new EX stick released for this title, though. I got shipping confirmation a few hours ago.

My hype is just getting built up again. Having Black Ops and GT5 as big distractions this month means I'm getting myself back on the Bullet Hell hype train :D

Constantly checking my emails to see if my friend in HK has managed to get a copy. I don't fancy having to wait on PA shipping him a copy then onto me. Even after Guwange, I need my Cave fix!

Even though I'm very glad there is a console version, I'm not really hyped for this because I feel the iphone early release already took away that exciting-new-cave-home-port hype. Now it's just the delayed-release-superior-version hype, which is not as great.

That plus after paying $10 for the iphone releases, the $75+DLC+shipping = ~$100 price feels a little less of a fair price.

Basically the iphone versions have ruined my Cave importing excitement :lol

Still getting it though. But since mail is closed for thanksgiving tomorrow, it won't be until next week for me.

Thanks to goes to http://www.cave-stg.com/ for this info.

I won't even be home when it arrives. :[

I'm pumped, but I kinda feel like I should clear Mushi Futari 1.5 Maniac before getting into this. Whatever! I'll play it and see what I feel like.

This is one of the reasons why I wouldn't buy the iPhone Cave games. I don't like watching full playthroughs before playing, either. Don't want to spoil much!

All I'll say is that the iphone version is a lot of fun, and I'll be buying this day1 if it gets localized. It's nice to be flying an actual ship!
